Advice on color (HELP kind and talented people!)
Comments (10)This is one of those areas where a picture is worth more than a thousand words. Go to the Gallery and scroll down to the search box. Look for posts from the following members: Color Specialists gottagarden wonbyherwits jkom51 then look at Texas Gardens: happyintexas natvtxn PNW gardeners; you can't grow all their plants, but you can steal their colors: aftermidnight libbyshome For really fun gardens with subtle color combos, look for: girlgroupgirl Last I'll repeat advice from lorna-organic: "Make beds of one color. Other colors will sneak in." -- I find this to be a super way to create a bed. Several shades of yellow, say. Some blue will find its way in there and maybe some dark purple or one bold apricot. I had a daylily in a kind of odd yellow/tan blend that fought with every yellow/orange/pink/red in the garden until I moved it into a bed of blue hydrangeas edged with blue stokesia and they lived happily ever after. Nell P.S. I didn't leave out anybody intentionally. Look at every post in the gallery when you have time....See MoreCan anyone photoshop this for me please?
Comments (5)Iris, I don't have photoshop but I sort of created the effect by opening 3 new windows and pulling up your link. While on my screen the travertine sort of blends, I'd rather see a lighter, calmer tile with a 2" x 2" (or whatever the width of your field tile is if you go with a horizontal run as shown) insert spaced at least 24" apart. I love honey onyx and had my MB counters and deck slabs in it, but it really doesn't work well with your granite. No place for the eye to rest. You could make your inserts in onyx if your heart is set on it. I found a wonderful golden abalone that I used in my bath to coordinate with the onyx. If you like it, the abalone (which BTW comes in a variety of tones) would be ideal to use as an insert in a plain field....See MoreCould you people PLEASE move over? (a rant)
Comments (78)I never buy all the trashy magazines that always seem to be at the check-out counter like Enquirer and People but I think they are a hoot to just read the covers so if the line is slow, I do that. If it's really slow, I take one out and flip through it and chuckle at the Bat Boy sightings and the latest ridiculousness of the Kardashians. If it's super-slow, sometimes I'll get into a fun conversation with someone in line next to me about the latest Elvis sighting. Life's too short to not grab a laugh or two whenever you get a chance. The few times I do start to get annoyed, I check my feelings and dump them. Getting irritated hurts me, not the one causing the feeling. I refuse to give someone else, especially someone I don't even know, that much power over my mood and my feelings....See MoreNeed help from all the talented people here
Comments (10)I feel like the scale is off with both pieces. Dining centerpieces, at least ones that you intend to leave on the table while dining, shouldn't block the view across the table. The vase looks like you would be craning your neck to try and hold a dinner conversation. I think if you took the flowers and feathers and other items and rearranged them in a lower vessel it would make a striking centerpiece. Think low and wide. The rams skull looks similarly oversized for the coffee table. Is there somewhere else you can use it, like the mantel or the hearth? I'm not generally big on decorating coffee tables with lots of stuff (though I know some people do that). I tend to view coffee tables and side tables as a place to set down a drink and not as a showpiece....See Moreice1
