Off Topic, Need Paint Color Suggestions for a Bedroom

I know this is a Kitchen forum, but I have been on this forum for over a year and trust the advice I will get here...I know you all, I have seen your gorgeous kitchens and know you have great taste! That being said, I cross post this to other forums and see what feedback I get there.

I am ready to re do our girls bedroom and don't know what color to paint their walls. Our 10 year old and 5 year old (soon to be 11 year old and 6 year old) share a room, and these are the colors we have picked out for their bedding. I need paint suggestions....

This is the rug for their room I picked up at Target (carpet is a cream/warm white)

This is the bedding...just brighter pink comforters and bright colored Ralph Lauren toss pillows (the green is brighter than this picture shows)

And this is their bed...more of a cream, cottage-y look in my opinion. They are currently stacked as bunk beds but trying to find a way to organize their closet in such a way to allow me to get rid of their dresser so we can unstack their bunks and make their room look more "put together."

Their room is fairly small, so I was thinking maybe a solid color but maybe adding some flair by making a focal wall a pattern, like diamond shapes with high gloss against flat. I haven't found anything on pinterest that describes what I have in mind.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Okay, let's give this a whirl again! What color paint for the walls with this bedding / rug / bed

I agree that you could use different colors for each bedroom, but not colors that are too bold or contrasting. Soft, muted shades like light sage green, light teal, light silvery blue, creamy yellow, or light apricot/peach would be fine, IMO. In my experience, it's much easier to find bedding that you like, then draw from the colors in the bedding for the paint, than to paint first, then try to find bedding to match. Or as mentioned above, draw colors from artwork you plan to use in the rooms. If you found some bedding you liked with bold colors, just paint that room in the same beige as the hallway as the focus will be on the bedding. Consider the wood tones in your furniture as well. E.g., if you have cherry or mahogany toned furniture, you might want to go with "cool" wall colors (green, blue). Natural light woods (oak, maple) are versatile with many color choices.

I was trying to find more pics and came across on YHL where they recommended Harbour Town as a soft khaki green. They also mentioned Springview Green in the same room, which I had picked out as a possibility for my guest bedroom. So now I see that Springview Green is the lightest on the strip. It is a much brighter green than shown in this pic. But no wonder I liked Harbour Town and Dune Grass. Dune Grass is one of the top five favorite greens on the BM website. I have untinted SW paint in my basement from the last 40% off sale because I hadn't chosen colors yet but I'm willing to consider having it tinted to a competitor's color(s). How I want the rooms to feel is a hard question. I guess I'm too analytical. Comfortable and livable -- somewhere between jarring/pay-attention-to-me and boring/bland? Guest room is rarely used, just the occasional overnight by a traveling family member. It might get more use in a few years if my kids bring friends home from college but I doubt they'll care as long as you feed them. :) Tibbrix, I'll definitely check out the other blues you suggested. I'm glad you responded because I remembered seeing that you weren't entirely happy with SW Languid Blue. Will take some photos after I get things better organized.

That is the only light fixture in the room and one of the reasons why we moved the dresser to that wall. We used to have our large armoire against that wall which covered the light fixture completely (making it very dark in the winter getting dressed in the mornings!). Yes, we have lamps but it doesn't make sense to us to cover up a light source.

It looks like the pink is going to predominate in the bedding. I'd go either with a sky blue (something like BM Mystical Blue) to pull out the blue in the rug and pillows, or go dramatic with chocolate brown walls (BM Mink or Bittersweet Chocolate) to match the brown in the rug (you could do a sky blue ceiling with this). My dining room walls are Behr Wild Horse, FWIW.

I think pink walls would be too much (and girls often outgrow pink). A lighter version of the green in the bedding would also be nice.

My daugther has similar bedding and her walls are a minty green, like the green on the rug. I love the preppy pink and green combo - but that's just me. I always find her room bright and cheery and it suits her perfectly. I did leave one wall a creamy white, to break up the green a bit. It looks great!

I like the green in the RL pillow, however you said it is much brighter in person. I think you need a soft understated background with all the bright pinks, green and blue in the rug, etc.. I don't have a color off the top of my head but I think a sagey green would work nicely. This would also allow you to change the bedding without having to change the wall color as they mature. I have 3 girls ages 14 to 7 and believe me their tastes will change. My 14 year old wants a greige for her new room and my 7 yr old wants deep purple!!! BTW I love the cottage bunk beds!

Some version of green as stated above.

Chocolate brown might be nice, too. Maybe too 'old' though?

Pick 3 colors you like and let them choose. You'll have some happy girls!

Cute stuff, though.

Am I crazy to put a gray toned color on the walls? I am finding myself in the group that thinks adding another "color" will make the room too wild and crazy with color.

Grays can read as colors, just softer ones. I have a gray in my bathroom that reads a very soft light blue. I have seen grays that are green, pinkish, yellowish, bluish. Or you could try getting a color and cutting it down by a % that works to lighten it up. The gray will be more receding because of the blacks, while the % paints will be more pastel. At least this is what I think. I am no expert; just mixed paints in the years past to paint pictures.
