The Kitchen Table

I've reached VIP status!

Printing out boarding pass, luggage tags and on both I see I am now a VIP!

Reading further on my boarding pass, that I get to go to the VIP check-in area, instead of going to their main check-in lines. YEA!

Tiffy! Not the whole pile, dear. Just a gallon. Good grief! The whole pile! That wouldn't be right. (Would it?) And I don't mean to cast dispersions, but Tiffy brought up another truly excellent point (the first being her suggestion that you have your "compost" tested by a professional---specifically moi); when you said, "here I am hanging like an addict, waiting for the sun to rise tomorrow so that I can go get a current pile temperature fix!!!" I thought to myself, "That doesn't sound like any of the addictions I have. If I had a beer out in the car and none in the house, I don't think I'd be sitting here right now waiting for the sun to rise over the yardarm. Of course that's just me, an Eastern Chapter Board Certified Wacko. No, I'm just teasing you. Compost isn't like beer. And yours may not even be especially good compost for all we know. One gallon. Genuine Certificate with organic glitter guaranteed if compost passes inspection. No bread in that pile, right?

Change of Custody Status Conference - What to expect?

I thought all custody cases are sealed. Is this only where I live? I thought the idea was to protect the children. If the judge had showed bias in the past, I would have thought there would have been complaints. My guess is this is very difficult to prove, and where I live it is very hard to find out info on unproven complaints. Where I live, my understanding is that Judge will only speak to child alone where child has reprsentation (eg GAL). I could be wrong, and my guess is different everywhere. In any event, this is just a status meeting. If I were the mom, and I wanted to keep custody, I would insist on evaluations, GAL, etc. All this takes time. Time is on the mothers side. Even if child says she wants to move, my guess is judge is going to be a little nervous about moving child from school where she is doing well. He certainly wont want to see another hearing a year from now with child with Cs and Ds from Michigan school. If I were dad wanting custody, as difficult as it is, I would concentrate on what I can control. I would have a writtten plan in place as to child seeing mom over summers etc. I would try to reach some compromise re CS. I would consider presenting to her before everyone goes to referee. The referee can not make anyone compromise. He/she can only tell each party the weaknesses of their case, and suggest they compromise. The problem is mom may feel that she can not receive less than what dad is asking for, and that there no point in not dragging out proceedings.

lol ummm i already have that ladder thingie...it's in the garage waiting for the new kitchen so ds can bother dh while cooking heh heh maybe i should get it out for me! surgery went well but there are some follow up issues with bone density i'm told. i have to start sucking down calcium like a ummm calcium sucker (what eats calcium?) they also had trouble with the iv's so now both hands look as if i've been fighting off polar bears (whicj may be my new story LOL) i must say....being helpless sucks! and this kinda hurts more than it should! ok i must lay back down before nurse nasty (dh) finds me up! oh and we have checked celiac :) our sobs nurse has it so we had a fortunate leg up on that which most don't have. and we do go gluten free once every six months to see if ut helps since celiac seems to be a bit if a waxing waning (spell?) issue and our ped wants to be sure!

Fastest conifer to reach 200' (61m)?
Q
Comments (52)
"One study showed about 6% of the water in the leaves were from fog in some trees. " Right, so the notion that they "need" this source of moisture is romanticized pseudoscience. Just because something happens, doesn't mean that this is the cause of everything else that happens. If they could merely subsist on the fog, then why haven't they reached 600', 700', or 800'? In fact since their range goes up to 2500', the right magical fog clearly exists at that altitude, too, and trees at ground level should be able to reach 2800' at least! LOL. Any moisture loving plant can grow better, or faster in a moist climate. Duh on that. But to specifically say that these trees can only reach that height because the fog is the _only _reason they can reach that height, is the height of absurdity! If you plotted standard deviations of soil moisture and drought with tree heights around the world - guess what you'd find? The places with plentiful, consistent soil moisture and rainfall are going to have the taller trees...and the places without tropical storms the really tallest trees. The sugi of Japan top out a bit above 200' - as would the redwoods of California if they had monsoon thunderstorms and typhoons to deal with. And guess what happens in climates with very consistant moisture that don't have the tropical waves and ridging/troughing - well they are maritime climates and by definition will have fog. The fog is associative, not causative, for the tall redwood trees. The only competition is Eucalyptus regnans, which, guess what, comes from moderately elevated areas with consistent rainfall and atmospheric moisture. (my brief google research suggests Tasmania is not known for thick summer fogs, but it is certainly wet, and w/o California's summer dry season. In fact, its native range _doesn't_ include the NW coast which is probably the foggiest part of Tasmania.) And guess what their upper limit is in spite of being morphologically completely different from conifers? About 400 ft! The fact is you won't find many other places in the world that have soil moisture as consistent as redwood coast, and the right temperature parameters, and the right absence of storms, lightning and high winds. But if you did, they could also reach 400' there. This post was edited by davidrt28 on Fri, Jan 2, 15 at 23:59
