Gonna be The Miracle, this time!

Booked with Carnival, today, for an 8 day cruise, on The Miracle, to Panama, Belize and Costa Rica!

Going with gals, I went with on Mediterranean cruise, last summer, 42 total this trip.

I met them last spring, when doing Southern Caribbean, when Carol, a KT'er said she was going on same cruise.

Great bunch of gals. I'll be seated with the group I know. What fun!

I'm going single, and have a balcony all to myself!

Hi all, So I finally took my jade inside yesterday because of the cold weather here. The weather has not gotten to the "freezing" level, but I was afraid of it getting too cold. I would say that it was about 40 degrees (during the day yesterday) when I took it in, so I was assuming that it would be in the 30's when the sun went down, and I didn't want to take any chances. Anyway, when I looked at the jade this morning, I found that a bunch of the leaves were dark brownish in color and had turned to soft mush. They had a "rotten" kind of smell. Most of the jade is still very healthy, but go figure that the leaves that are in bad shape are the ones where the buds are! Most of the leaves in that area fell off when I gently shook the branches that they were on. So I ended up pruning the branches where these rotten leaves were. As for the parts with buds on them, I left those intact (with the exception of the leaves that happened to fall off), because I don't want to cut off the branches that have buds. I'm hoping for the best, but I'm assuming I'm going to lose the buds. Does anyone know what I did wrong? The soil wasn't too wet at all, and there was no frost in my area yet. So I'm not sure why this happened. I did what was recommended and left the jade outside for as long as I could. I'm not worried about losing the jade, but it's a shame that I had to prune so much of it off, and that I'm probably not going to see blooms. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated so that this doesn't happen next year - and maybe I can stop any further damage from happening to the jade. Trouble is in this region with it's see-saw weather, you may only get a couple feet of vine, without bloom, when a heat wave nukes it. You can still try though, you never know. I toured the British Embassy in DC a few years ago and the ambassador's wife at that time was insisting that the gardener grow sweet peas, as was her favorite in UK. He accomplished it somehow, I didn't get to ask how. I felt sorry for that gardener.

remy, For your not-run-of-the-mill hosta, any requests? (Not sure I'll see your response in time, but hey...) I've got Golden Tiara, which is gold on the edges, a few unnamed types that are large-leaved and blue-green, a small leafed bluish type that I think is Blue Cadet... but if I don't know if someone wants it I'm not splitting any of it. They're just kind of big right now. By next year I'd have Little Black Scape ready for dividing, but I don't know if it's there yet. Or you could really disappoint your husband with a teeny tiny hosta. I've got three teeny unnamed ones with leaves the size of my pinky fingernail, and Pandora's Box, which is even tinier (that whole plant is the size of my pinky fingernail!) I don't know what everyone wants, so I'm just going to see what I can pry out of the hard-as-concrete ground. Wish me luck. Ruth, isn't it Sunday? The message says June 5th, which is a Sunday.

Yes, a day in which to take delight! The shoestring acacia has little flower buds. Can't wait to see it bloom. I'm still looking, but in vain it seems, for a Palo Verde 'desert museum' tree. If anyone sees one for sale let me know. Even Lowes had them last year, but their supplier doesn't have any presently. Mine will be on the Conquest. I am planning for a mid to late February cruise with DH. Ours is a 7 day to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel.

We're going on the Conquest June 15th to the same ports as Anette. Ten of us...kids, grands + us. By then the children will be 11, 12, 14 and 15. They're all beyond excited!

Anette, I'm interesting in hearing how the Conquest was after your trip.

Oh sounds so nice. Take lots of pictures to share. I'd only get a balcony suite. You can look out and see the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Plus, I tend to get very nervous if I can't see where I'm going.

Glenda, we did this same cruise March of 2005, and did feed the stingrays. That was the coolest thing about the whole cruise (our first). There is so much to see and do at each port, we dont feel as if we will be bored by the same route this year. Think we're gonna do a river rafting in Jamaica, maybe snuba in Grand Cayman.

Eva, you will love the Conquest. The ship is beautiful, and the facilities are quite nice. Thats a big group you are traveling with. If it is your first cruise, then I recommend the stingray excursion on Grand Cayman as well. If you are interested, I can find the name of the private operator we used. Much nicer than booking through Carnival. There were only 10-12 of us on the excursion boat, had a wonderful crew who took time with each person individually. Have you been to cruisecritic.com yet? Good info there.

Cruising is good for the soul.
