Cork flooring?
Comments (34)Hey, I haven't been here for a while., been deck building and holy cow that is another subject. Ok I have 2 dogs ,doberman and mutt. they run in and out of the house, I have 5-8 teenage boys that run in and out with them. Neither groups look at their feet before they come in the house. I have had the floor down since 2004 or so, and it looks great. I went with a click lock because the floor is on joists. we don't need to glue down. If it gets "scarred" you can screed the surface and re finish with a poly finish... i have read about it,. I haven't done it. I found it on a "u floor.com" sort of site on line. Just click or set it and forget it. The pattern shows NO DIRT. I used a microfiber dampened with vinegar water whenever. the westhollow niagra is what I used. LOVE IT!!!! Have 8 boxes under the bed to do the bedroom next. Really....See MoreCork over 'wonderboard' or do you need additional underlayment?
Comments (1)What is the wonderboard installed over...and why did you choose that as an underlayment? As far as installation of the cork is concerned...whatever the manufacturer recommends regarding substrate is what you want to use. Also, there are no substitutes regarding adhesive. Most manufacturers recommend contact adhesive for the tile installation. You cannot substitute another adhesive for the one the manufacturer says you have to use. Good luck...See MoreAttn: Williamsem! Cork question
Comments (1)Hi Deedles! I couldn't figure out how to get samples either, though I did not call them. I used their site to find a local dealer and went to visit the display. It was one of those member only places, but lucky for me my contractor was on file. They would have let me take their board home for a day, but I couldn't bring it back on time and I had already done a ton of research so I just went for it. The finish layer felt a little different than Globus, but I think they would both be fine. The USF doesn't require a poly coat to finish, but I want one to seal the seams anyway. Globus does require a coat, and I think once coated would be just as durable. I had a hard time scratching the Globus sample deep enough to reach the cork, and I think anything just in the wear layer would disappear if recoated. I honestly picked by color, I liked them both. They are also both prebuttered, which is what I originally spec'd since I thought I was ordering Globus. My other option was AmCork, loved the Night sample, but consensus was it would be too dark with the dark cabinets. AmCork isn't prebuttered, so I'm glad I didn't have to see how much more the labor would have been! I'm so excited, it should be ready for pick up in about a week! With USF you have to buy from an authorized dealer to have a warranty, but the price was not much more than online and a little less than Globus. I have to open up the cartons when they arrive to let them acclimate, will post pics when it's here....See Moredo your cork floors dent?
Comments (34)@Glenm, and @Olivertwistkitchen , thanks for sharing your experience here. Though this post is old, I came across it as we're considering redoing the floors in our new construction home on the upper level where the bedrooms are by switching out the builder-provided carpet to cork - for its soft foot feel, relative moisture resistance, and sound insulation. I wonder if you all ever got to the bottom of the denting issue with iCork products? Did the manufacturer help? We are seriously considering iCork but due to the lack of commentary on cork in general online, finding it difficult to decide. thanks in advance!...See Moresqp1015
