How to UNLIKE something on Face Book

Someone has put some pictures on my FB that I definitely don't want there. I know the person, and I want to remove the pictures but don't want to involve them in any conversation. I just want the pics gone.

I Googled and read that you just click UNLIKE there, but all I see is LIKE.

Clicking Unlike works only if you've already clicked Like. Hover your mouse over the upper right-hand corner of the picture (a little beyond the actual image). You should see some sort of symbol that will allow you to delete.

yes, scroll over the top right side of the post, a little arrow should appear, click that and it says if you want to delete the post, or even have all posts from that person not to show up on your page. They won't know you did it, unless they come and snoop around on your page. I have done it when some of the kids I am friends with start in with the F words in their posts. I just delete that post.

I, of course, had heard a lot of references to Facebook. They all pertained to how great it was to reconnect with friends and family. I didn't know there were "hidden" mysteries that came with it. So I joined up, and right away found some relatives that would be good to hear from. I began to realize I was also gaining "friends" I never heard of. I have no idea who most of those friends are. As I said before, I think Facebook should come with a tutorial. A lot of the terms are not self-explanatory. I googled and learned a few tid-bits here and there. One was the use of the Hide button, but that only works on the Home page, not the page of a Friend. So there is no way to my knowledge to remove something from another's page. Seems like there should be, it is MY Facebook. Anyway, I have gone in and removed every name except my nieces and nephews. I left X, because I don't have the heart to delete him. I know that if he did do the quiz, and doesn't want to admit it after seeing the result, that he had no idea what would have come of taking the quiz. And that the "F" word would be blasted on that page in BIG red letters on a black background. Facebook should be ashamed. I didn't join Facebook looking for games to play or quizzes to take. My purpose was to locate and reconnect with family. For that I think Facebook will be fine. It is much better than emailing. If anything similar happens again, I will give it up completely. I personally would never talk you out of it, I do not have a facebook account so I can understand your wish to remove yours. Everyone has the right to their own opinions and decisions. Here are some links that should help you but understand it may not be as easy as hitting a button there are several steps to fully have it deactivated and closed. I don't find facebook to be boring at all. I've been a member on online communities since 1998 and think that facebook is a fantastic way of keeping up with friends and acquaintances that are now scattered around the globe. I'm selective about how I send and accept friend requests from and I would say there are only about 10 people on my friend list that I don't know personally and they are friends of friends. Actually, a group that I've been a member since 98 lost someone very recently. She suffered from a brain hemorrhage and was gone within 48 hours. I never had the privileged of meeting her in person, but my loss is just as profound as if we people who met for lunch every week. Anyway, my community gathered together on facebook chat around the time they took her off life support and it was a great comfort to us to be together in real time (rather than on our message board) to support each other and celebrate her life. Gosh, sorry for the total off topic babbling. I was just anti-facebook for years, because I am protective of my privacy. But then I realized that my facebook experience can be what I want it to be and not what the "facebook machine" says it should be. Also, if you've been hacked, please do what lindyluwho said and let people know! I've had relatives that have been hacked and they didn't tell people, so some of their friends and family also got hacked.

I just remembered my two unlikely crushes!!!! 1. Nicholas Lowry, the poster appraiser on Antiques Roadshow Was just thinking of him yesterday as I was trying to scheme up ways to a) afford b) justify buying this $1000 poster at my fave antiques store. Bill Lynch was a local amusements operator whose headquarters was in my home village. 2. Walton Goggins. I don't understand it but it's primal. I love him on Justified so much! That did it!

Another question: did the person purposefully put those pics there or could they have just somehow showed up because we are Face Book friends? I can't believe it was done on purpose.

Cwnev, yeah, something like your situation.

I rebooted to be sure they were gone.

Thanks to both of you. I really don't like FB, but went on because two nieces in Texas asked me to, mostly to see their kids and grands. I never post anything.

Were you tagged in the pictures?

Or did the pictures just show up in your news feed since you are her friend? It would have appeared under her name.

They can post pictures on your wall also.

Iowagirl, I have to admit, I don't know exactly what tagged means, or news feed either. Of course I've seen those terms used, but never bothered to learn anything much about FB.

I do know who the person is because their picture shows up with that post and it is the one on their FB. They know I would not want anything like that on my FB, so that is why I wondered about how it got there.

All they have to do is "share" it with "friends" so if you are on her friend list her pictures that she shares w/friends will show up on your page. You can hide them, also using the same method.

Hi Sue-va

It's hard to keep up to date with Facebook, they're always changing things. A couple tips, On your Facebook page, clicking the word Facebook (at the top, left) or Home(top, right)will open up your news feed,it is the page with ALL the "news" posted by your friends. Clicking on your name (top, right)will bring up your timeline which has just the stuff you've posted and posts made directly to you from your friends. If you're interested the link below gives a lot of good information on Facebook, as well as tips for setting up the privacy controls account.

Dorothy Oahu, goldigger, Thanks for the info,

As I mentioned I don't like FB, so I haven't attempted to learn much about it. I like seeing the pictures and reading about the children, etc. When I want to make a comment I send an email. I don't think John Q Public needs to know anything about Franky's braces or Patty's prom dress.

Goldedger, I will follow your directions and do that. I have bookmarked the link and will get back to it after dinner.
