This is what I got for Christmas...love it! It logs on my steps, miles, calories burnt and used (if I enter them) and much more....it is a fun little gadget to have...I'm finding I'm not walking the 10,000 steps that are recommended, so I need to work on that...I walk two and a half miles each morning, but that doesn't equate to enough steps....

Two and a half miles isn't enough? Wish I could say I walked that much every day.

Maybee, I'd be willing to bet you get more walking done daily that many of us. Good for you!

I'm thinking I've waited too long to stay strong by walking since I've been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right groin/hip area. I now have a cane which I don't use every day, but movement is limited and I'm feeling older than dirt. :(

Let us know how you add to your daily routine and if the Fitbit encourages you or gets on your nerves. LOL

I stopped by Best Buy and bought a Fitbit One on Monday evening. I have been painting the exterior of my house, going up and down a ladder for a few hours each day. I wore it yesterday for the first time - logged in over 8,000 steps but got no credit for going up the ladder repeatedly. I guess I'm not going high enough for it to register. And you don't get credit for coming down the stairs - just going up. Still, I think it's great. And now I understand how it could fit in a bra. The thing is about the size of my thumb. The directions for using it are not readily available. It comes with no instructions - it sends you to their website, and even there the instructions are sketchy. I tried to use it as a sleep tracker the first night - got into bed and held down the button for two seconds. What they don't tell you is what the Fitbit is going to do - that two second hold starts a stopwatch. I thought I had done something wrong. I wore it on my ankle last night. It recorded my bathroom trips in the night - LOL.

I don't know the accuracy of the HR monitors on the new Fitbit. I actually have a colleague who is at the Consumer Electronics Show looking at fitness technology. I should ask him. The Polar HRM's are definitely electrocardiogram (ECG) accurate. The new polar DH got me was only around $50.

A better quality pedometer is in order. I have an Omron Walking style (Amazon Link) but it is on the higher price scale. It does not register false steps (I'm a leg bouncer), records aerobic steps separately and keeps 7 days history. It does calorie counts but it's not like a fitbit. You can check out other Omron offerings to see if there is something more budget friendly.

I use the One from Fitbit. I like it because it is less obtrusive. I do use a Polar heart rate monitor for my workouts like Spin class and weights. I seriously thought about the Surge, but I don't want to wear the watch all the time. As far as accuracy, they are all pretty good but none are perfect. They tend to pick up walking and jogging type of activities better. The wrist ones are a little better for weight training but overall. I do a lab with the students with different types of trackers. I compare the ones I've had for a few years for research purposes with a simple pedometer, but many of them have their own. One student has the Apple watch which also tracks steps. I've taken my One cross country--remember to remove it for airport security screening, but a few weeks back I finally lost it for good when we went to the theatre. Yes, I called twice and emailed but no luck. I've "lost" it several times but have always found it by calling the place or by trying to sync it with my phone. I contacted Fitbit and they gave me 25% off a new one. Often times they will replace it for free if it's within a short period. BTW, all the Fitbits are onsale about 25% off through Monday the 30th. Like new year's resolutions, most people stop wearing their tracker after about 3 months.

I have a plain ole step counter... someplace, prolly in storage as I can't find it. But back when I first got it, I was surprised that I barely did over 10000 steps daily. I was sure, I did more... and am wondering how many I put in at work now.

I used a pedometer for a while, but I found it very inaccurate and gave it up. The Fitbit has good reviews on Amazon.

I like the fitbit for many reasons, but mainly because of it's small size. For me, most pedometers are too cumbersome and I find myself fidgeting and moving them around during the day, but the fitbit I never have an issue with and often times forget it's there. I have not tried the sleep cycle yet.

Lana: I think walking is good for osteoporosis...

Matti: Yes, the Fitbit is sized to where you can wear it on your bra and never feel it...also the car doesn't trigger it to count as steps when you are driving...I was afraid that might happen because it does with some pedometers.

Moni: Yea, it was a little pricey, but I got it anyway....I'm worth it :o)

Pam: "I" thought two and a half miles was pretty good for someone my age, but they recommend 10,000 steps each day and I think that equates to about five miles...I'm not going to worry about it, though...I'm not going to do five miles
