Suggestions for a simple and bright mini pendant over island
Comments (0)Hello, We are struggling to the end of a kitchen renovation in extreme stages of decision fatigue. We are planning on 2 mini pendants over an island which flank an island hood which has its own lighting. The island hood is centered in the middle, so we need the pendants to light the island on either side. I know there is a robust debate regarding pendants over islands with island hoods, but the receptacles are up there and we are committed at this point. From a design standpoint, we are looking for something simple that won't draw lots of attention (i.e. white or clear with brushed nickel) that throws a good amount of light. It's direct line voltage. Any thoughts from the group if any of you looked for the same? Thanks....See MoreIf you have clear glass pendants, do you use filament light?
Comments (9)We put up two pendants with clear shades (the Meridian from Sundance). When we ordered the pendants the filament bulbs (which were in the $15 each range) were out of stock. We ended up buying some much cheaper (like $4 apiece) filament bulbs at Home Depot. The shape is a little odd (kind of long and tubular) but the look -- the glowing exposed filament -- is the same. My husband, who is tall, was bothered by the brightness at first (the lights are more at his eye level) but it only took a few days for him to get over it. Ours are on a dimmer and we usually have them dimmed down to about half. I think the bulbs may be 40 watt. Also, like shannonaz, we don't really need ours for light. They're more for looks. And another thing -- the clear shades do get dusty and dirty fairly often but they're easy enough to clean. Here's what ours looks like turned on:...See MoreWhat type of pendant on top of bright blue recycled glass island top?
Comments (3)That is stunning! I am not a pro, but I think metal pendants would be nice. Since you have the stainless in the appliances, I would pick brushed nickel. You might want to look at black metal too. I think I would stay away from anything shiny as you have a lot or reflective surfaces in place already. You HAVE to post 'after' pictures.....I love the countertop!...See MoreSeeded glass vs. clear glass for kitchen pendants
Comments (3)Beth H., those are beautiful! Thank you for the referral to Rejuvenation. I just heard about them for the first time earlier today. I wasn't sure that seeded glass would work with our contemporary design so that's good to know it could work either way....See MoreAngela
