I checked out the snuggies in the stores. Don't know how warm the keep you, but they are made of very thin material. The idea is good, they are longer than a robe and can cover your feet. They had a "slanket" on one of the home shopping networks that had a pocket for your feet and a pouch for your hands. I checked out the www and found a pattern for a "snugglet". Made one for myself and one for my 11 yr old niece for Christmas. I adapted it and made a foot pocket and hand pouch. I'm no seamstress, but they turned out pretty well. Mostly straight sewing except for setting the sleeves.

Yes, they have sleeves, but so does a bathrobe, and that covers your back, too. And you can't really walk around in a Snuggie - it would flap around your back and trip you in front.

A friend bought me something very similar to a snuggie last winter and as others have said, it is of a thin material and I've only tried it on twice. Each time the static it creates makes my hair stand right up! Hate it, but haven't told him that. When he asked if I had worn it, I said I'm saving it to wear as a bathrobe when I get out of the shower. :)

On Yahoo this week they evaluated some of the "As Seen on TV" merchandise. The Snuggies didn't fare well at all. Said they shed tons of fuzz in the dryer and become thin. I think they would be dangerous to try to walk in; you could trip so easily.

I did hear of a woman who made her own for free--she put her bathrobe on backwards.

On that Yahoo evaluation the Ped Egg got a good review.

My 8-year old grandson wanted one of these, but after I looked at them closely, I ended up buying him a nice fleece bathrobe, which he can wear backwards and tie the belt, and it works great.

I received one for Christmas, don't care much for it, too long to walk in, you could easily trip over it. Kind of worthless , I agree.

My kids absolutely love them!! So do the cats LOL! I considered wearing one when I drove DD to school this morning. Its unusually cold here.

Mine is not lightweight...but it isn't a Snuggies brand. it is not fleece but that short almost like furry that came out in lap blankets a couple years ago.

And I like them better than robes because you can cover your feet too, and mine get cold.

I just toss it on like a blankie...and then stick my arm in. I don't tuck behind me...my recliner keeps the back side warm enough. Or same with the couch.

With this extreme cold weather we are having they are great.

I made myself an indoor jacket that fits over everything, even my robe. DH goes to bed early, and I get cold late at night, but turning up the heat would roast him upstairs. I looked for a plain, XXLarge man's sweatshirt on sale after Christmas. Got one for $12 at Kohl's last year. Cut straight down from the center neck through the center point of the ribbing at the waist. Then I folded over the edge about 1/3 of an inch and hand sewed it down. The sleeves are so big that they fit easily over my robe sleeves when I am chilly late at night. The sweatshirt fabric is soft and comfy. I wear it over my day clothes when I am chilly too, and I keep it in the family room close at hand. It was well worth making!

They said on a news show that they washed one ten times and it was pilling and fuzzy and the fabric was thin. Never bought one myself though.
Also saw the ShamWow and SlapChop were not as advertised.

I got a Snugglie...and I'm not impressed! The "One Size Fits All" is a crock!

Not sure who gave the reviews for the ShamWow's..but I can about guarantee they've never had a washing machine back up ALL IN THE FLOOR! Mine did that yesterday...and the whole mess was cleaned up with my ShamWow's!*S*

DD bought a ShamWow for washing the car to replace their old chamoise. It does not do the job.

I was given one for Christmas because I am cold when I sit at my computer because it is in the kitchen between the fridge and front window. The sleeves are really long and the fuzz from the snuggie gets into everything including my water and up my nose. LOL I think I would rather have a Granny shawl or a cape of some sort because wearing the snuggie my back is still exposed to the cold. Also if I want to stand up and walk to get something I have to take it off because it is long.

I appreciate getting one though, it does help when I wear it while sitting on the couch to watch television for the most part except for the fluff that comes off of it. My cat Lucy prefers that I use a knitted afghan. She won't sit on my lap if I have the snuggie on. Oh yeah, I think it is because of the static electricity. The snuggie produces a lot of that.

They are easy to make I made one for me (I'm short) out of one of those $3-4 micro fleece blankets found at Walmart

I have one. It is a Slanket, and is very heavy. I don't use the sleeves. I just pull it up over my feet, legs and chest and it is toasty warm.

If mine had a foot pocket I'm sure I would get up in a hurry and fall all over myself!

So far, no lint or fuzz. I haven't washed it, but did put it in the dryer a few minutes to freshen up after being put away last year. I got it last Christmas.

I am very cold natured and I appreciate having this warmer-thingy.

Well, this year I was given two! yes two! I was alway cold, but that was when I was pre-menopausal....but I digress. EVERY year at Christmas time, I hint for gift cards from the stores I'd like to shop at. Even DH drops hints for me. But does anyone ever listen--Nooooo! I hate to sound like an ingrate, but honestly those things are too light weight & like others have said, the static drives me crazy. My hair stands up straight & Mr. Catt doesn't want to cuddle because of his getting zapped from the static.

The thing is I can't return either of them. One was pink embroidered with my name on it. I look like a pink monk! And the other is tan & from a store not even located in my state. I do appreciate the thoughts behind them & that I was given these gifts at all, but do I need an anvil next time to drop a hint???
I might look into a senior center or somewhere that someone might enjoy it & find it useful.

After washing and using dryer sheets I found ery little static now when I touch a cabinet or shelf in the market I get zapped and tried to use a dryer sheet there.

As for Snuggies - I too prefer a fleece robe in an XL size - perfect for snuggling and the cats like it too.

I stole one of the new dog blankets I bought at Costco, it's fleece on one side, material on the other, so, warm! I did buy three so the dogs have to share the other two!

I don't have one and don't want one, but from what I understand they're not intended to be something you walk around in. Think of when you use a blanket or afghan while reading. Your arms have to be outside of the blanket to hold the book (or cross-stitch, or whatever you're doing), and that means that the blanket is really only up to around your bust.

The snuggies are just a blanket with arms to solve that problem. When you get up to go do something, you just toss it off as you would a blanket. They're not intended for walking around any more than a blanket is.

Again, I don't want one. But I think that there is a misunderstanding about the intended use.

They make them for dogs now. My neice bought one for my parent's dog. He goes from a hyper state to instant sleep as soon as it's on LOL wierd!!! It's almost as if there is somthing hypnotic about it. Next time I'm over I'll get a video of it.

I was afraid I'd get one as a gift for Christmas and was relieved that I didn't. They look like ugly backward bathrobes to me.

When I'm on the couch in the basement I have two blankets piled on me...it's cold down here if the fireplace isn't on...DH decided I needed a snuggie...I didn't even take it outta the box...the material was cheap fleece...it woulda attracted every dog hair in a three mile radius...I took it back to Best Buy and got something I could really use...(recordable DVD's!)

I got one for Christmas and am not impressed as said...."how flipping long our are arms????????" And I have to carry the front up when I walk or I would trip.....but is big and the doggies do get under it with me and does work out better when they are underneath as I am still covered on the front! I would never buy one for myself....but will use this one til it becomes a pain...sTacy

Sounds as though most folks here figure them to be ... a bust!

But, as someone said, if you're using a blanket and wanting to do something with your arms, how to keep them warm ... and your bust not over-warm?

Find some warm material that doesn't kick off a lot of static ... and make your own!

As for it being too long - don't let that hazard trip you up: stick some Velcro along a line part way up, and some of the companion pieces along the bottom. Should keep that long tail up high enough to be out of harm's way.

You could even retread some material from clothing, blankets, etc. that are worn, obsolete or have become holey.

Add the cost saved to your *early* retirement investment account (if you haven't achieved that noble goal, yet)!

I saw the guy that invented them on the Joan Rivers show one night "How I Made My Millions" or something like that. He is just a young guy in his 20s who had an idea and went with it. He's a multi-multi millionaire now. Seems like a nice "kid", if I can use that term, and I don't mean it negatively. I just admire him for thinking of something and getting it done. Look at all of the knock-offs that have come after his original!

And remember - they're supposed to be a blanket with arms, not something to walk around in. Who picks up their blanket and walks with it? You'd trip over that, too, and this is the same, except with arms. The creator of them "modeled" them and showed how they're supposed to be used. Just as you would a blanket.
