Cooktop Exhaust Options

I want to find a way to keep the smooth electric cooktop in an island position. Island size issues & choice of location aside.

I figure my options would be,

1. Do not have an exhaust (never had one).

*Only once burned something that caused smoke in which I had to wash down every square inch.

*Continue to use an air purifying burner to clean the air of after cooking odours. Smells good, works great and clears even the worst bacon & fish smells within minutes.

2. Hood Vent.

I recognize it as the most effective. Can be done

structurally, but not really in the budget right

now. More expensive option & I'd want one that

visually is light looking.

Is this something that can be added later or must it

be done from the get-go? There are no structural

changes planned to the walls & ceiling.

3. Telescoping Downdraft Vent.

Does anyone have experience with the Broan downdraft system? I've added the link below.

This would solve 2 problems. A) exhaust. B)act as a

barrier when it is in raised position on the

walkway side of the island.

Also not really in the budget, but would have to be

done right away as the granite top would need

to have the cutout done at the same time as the

cooktop.

Please weigh in with how much you use your exhaust.

a) every time you use the electric cooktop

b) occasionally for "X" specific reason

c) To clear the air after you either burn something or have heavy duty odours?

Here is a link that might be useful: Broan cooktop vent
