I would resend along with a note- everyone makes mistakes. With the job market being the way it is, I would just go for it. You have nothing to lose by correcting your error.

I'm guessing you have tried to "unsend" the email? (sometimes, rarely, you can)

If it went through, I would call the office as soon as they open on Monday (or Tuesday) morning and honestly explain the mistake.

Be aware that there are probably more applicants and they might be picky on whose applications they will even consider.

I would resend with a different subject line. They may screen on the subject line and reject a 2nd submission. I would also try to call - play innocent, and mention that you had submitted by email but decided to call since you were very interested in the job. If they mention it, you can then delicately explain the error. The other thing - you could rais the mistake first. Either way would be good. They may not notice it though because of the way computers are screening - they are looking for skills. You do need to resubmit because of the "desired salary" requirement.

One thing - you may want to remove the specific information from your resume. Highlight your skills and write about the specific in the vocer letter. Since you are appying in different areas, unless you are an attorney or a Dr., you can probably be generic. Of course if they are targeting a specific skill germain to only "law" or "medical", then yes, you do want to add it back in. If you aren't targeting one over the other, it can be a real mind game keeping up with details. Make it easy on yourself.

Don't beat yourself up about it. It is so stressful, first looking for a job, and then making sure you crossed and dotted properly. We all have done something like this, so get back on the horse and go gettum.

Contact them and offer to send the correct documents. Just over a week ago, I received a resume with a cover letter addressed to my agency but discussing another agency in the body. I did call the applicant to clarify her intent, we chuckled over it (I said I was sure she would bring the same great qualities to our agency) and we arranged the interview. You will probably take a hit; however, I would not consider it fatal.

If you want the job, go after it! One thing many people, including I would look for was follow-up and some desire to get the job. If someone didn't hear back and would follow up with a call, it said something for them. I'd go ahead and send the email, go ahead and say that the other email may have been incomplete and here is current information. Then of course attach the cover letter with all desired information and correct resume.

You COULD use a different email address if you're that embarrassed but I think a fast response to the mistake, accepting responsibility for it and correcting the error would bode well in your favor.

Then do a follow-up in a reasonable amount of time, but not so soon as to harass them. There's a fine line to too much.

You've had some good suggestions here.

Whatever you do, don't "play innocent" and try to deny sending the wrong attachments. It doesn't "save face", and it will make you look silly.

Just resend the correct resume, with the proper attachments, and an apology for sending the wrong documents. No employer out there thinks you're applying for only one job at a time, and they know your resume will be tailored for each position.

Forget about it and move on. It's a buyer's market today for employment, and your application will be tossed in the first round of weeding out. The inability to even perform the application process correctly does not speak well for a potential employee's ability to perform the required tasks of the position.

I think owning up to a mistake speaks of good character. Resend the proper resume with a short note of explanation.

I agree with wildchild. I've been in a position to hire people in the past and, although this would be a bit of a mark against you, I would appreciate the mature honesty (in other words, don't gush) and your willingness to take responsibility for your error.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to try and correct the error. But for once I agree with 'chad said' on this one - many employers will see this as an inability to perform a simple task on the computer and will throw that application in the trash.
If it was me I would call or email and try to feel out if they caught the error and would like your information resent, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope on landing that particular job.
At least you know you'll check your attachments carefully from now on before you hit the send button.

Resend it. Right now we are receiving around 600 applications for every posted job. It's likely they'll reject the first one and may not even remember seeing it when they receive the second one. But in case they log every name, I would attach a short note to the new one asking them to disregard the first one. You don't need to explain why and if you try you may just end up making yourself look goofy.

Chad's words were harsh but not far off the truth. With so many resumes coming in, something simple can knock you off the list. That first resume will never receive the attention you want it to, so send the correct one asap.

FYI - we always ask for salary requirements but we never pay attention to it unless their stated requirement is way beyond what we can pay. I always recommend people use some statement about being flexible about pay. It's a trap and if you put something too low you look inexperienced or desperate. If you put something too high you may be cutting yourself out of a job you would really like. There are a lot of factors that make up job satisfaction and pay is just one of them. Vacation time, work environment, length of commute, benefits - all of those things are significant factors. It's OK to say that, unless you really are looking for a set salary.

I think chad_said's comments were pretty naive. Probably a lot of resumes coming in, but that's actually to your advantage. IF they tossed it, doesn't hurt to try again. The ironic thing is they don't know. And often you can apply multiple times for a job and get it later. Anyone who says don't try again is a FOOL.

I don't think it will hurt to re-send the application. My son can be a little... ok, a lot, flaky, and he has screwed up a lot of job applications. He has sent the wrong applications to the wrong job, and has forgotten to send the attached resume numerous times. He always re-sends with a note. Funny thing is, he gets almost every job he applies for. They are low level/student jobs however. But every year he gets 4 out of 5 jobs he applies for, even though he makes so many mistakes. Weird.
