rheem ac a-coil replacement question
Comments (8)That evaporator coil is a 2 ton coil. Do not mismatch the evaporator coil and the condenser coil. Besides mismatching size, you will end up mismatching the energy efficiency rating. That coil is what's called a 10 Seer coil, and nobody makes a 10 Seer coil anymore. The lowest you can go is a 13 Seer system. I would go ahead and do everything right the first time, that way you will not have any issues with mismatching the system. Also, if you get a free estimate from someone, see if they can do a manual J load calculation on your house to make sure the unit is not undersized. A very rough way of figuring out whether you unit is big enough is taking the square footage of your house dividing that number by 600. That will be a somewhat close estimate to what size unit you need. Performing a manual J load calculation is much better because they account for the windows, doors, insulation, and position of the house. Hope this helps....See Morea/c coil replacement
Comments (3)Unfortunately that's about going price for a replacement evaporator coil if its not under warranty. Many times the price is higher. Can you give us more info about your unit--age, warranty status, etc.? Usually it's best to have the indoor coil match the outdoor unit, so if you're replacing the coil, ask them about this....See MoreReplace furnace while doing AC and coil?
Comments (2)kid first it would be best for you and forum members to keep all your posts in the original thread rather than multiple threads. one can have simple repairs to a furnace this age. the major problems would be a cracked heat exchanger and a blown blower motor. this would make a repair to a furnace this age not cost effective. I prefer a matched system. you are btm fishing since this is a rental unit. I don't care for either the Lennox or Rheem furnace quoted. You could do better but I understand the choice since it is rental. If money is not an issue, then I would go on and replace the furnace due to its age and just be done with it. You do want to properly weigh all warranty differences. You will get a better overall price now replacing everything now rather than wait and replace an old furnace at a later date. There is little to no value on old furnaces whether one yr old or five yr old. If your existing furnace was 10 yrs old or less with a problem free history, I would not replace it. A 20+ yr old furnace is an entirely different matter. make certain you qualify the dealers providing quotes. IMO...See MoreNeed to replace one of two AC units in my house...
Comments (6)Few things... I believe the smaller 2 ton unit was installed after the main unit (even though they are both manufactured in 1994) because the 2 ton Freon line is outside the wall. This is what a repair man once said. Also, I found this information from an old receipt regarding the current 2 ton AC unit: Make: Trane cond XE1000 / Trane Furnace / Trane Coil Model: TTR024C100A1 / TDD040R924B0 / TRC024C4HPB2 Please keep in mind, I'm trying to read his handwriting so the above number/letters might be wrong. In the past, the 2 ton unit seemed to cool just fine although we only keep the house mid-70's at coolest. I'm not sure how big the common area is, but the ceilings are very high -- 12 feet I believe. If you would like, I can take pictures of the attic space or any of the AC parts. Thanks for the help....See Morenurseflowerpower
