Comments (72)Hi Susie, to answer some of your questions - the planks are about 5 1/4" wide, with a little gap inbetween. They were put in on top of the drywall, then painted in once they were in place. Unfortunately the longest shelves are starting to pitch forward just a bit. Both my husband (who is handy) and our contractor think they will not come off the wall, BUT we all decided we'd feel better to put brackets in. I have some really heavy stuff I'd like to put up there, like a big le creuset dutch oven etc. and I'd feel better with the brackets. I picked out some metal ones and I will paint them white to blend in with the wall. as for wall color, its either Sherwin Williams Dover white, or just plain white, I don't remember. And yes, I still love the marble. It does etch but doesn't stain at all once properly sealed. I did do a re-seal on it after about 6 months. Good luck with your kitchen! Comments (4)Sure, diymom79. Finish the hearsay... If they slap paint on them without proper preparation. It's a no brainer. You get what you put into them. This topic has also been beaten to death and is actually ongoing (again) in another current thread. Comments (46)Things are coming together with my kitchen, which creates a whole, in-love feeling. It's not nearly finished (finishes, actually) but I stand there and love it. What has made me really love it vs, eh, ok, maybe someday, is replacing the glass screen door I had in as a pocket to the mudroom. The dogs could look through it, scratch and chew and I didn't care. The beautiful, 1.76" thick French door WITH TRIM (The only trim in my house) is a joy to see. The light was already there, but now I LIKE to look at it. What's really contributed recently to me LOVING my strange kitchen is moving the fridge to the mudroom, giving me 57" of landing space just inside that French door, vs. the 24" I lived on. Cutting off my peninsula has opened the ENTIRE ("ENTIRE," she screamed!) kitchen. It's so open and amazing now, even not finished. With my reclaimed pine floor I have yet to finish, it's just cool. Gotta figure out what to do with those peninsula lights and build my rolling island, but all in all, those items really contribute to my happiness in my kitchen. As to the backsplash tiles, they are from a local tileshop and had no mfg. name on them. The color was simply white. I will try to make it over to the tile store and ask them the mfg. and color.
Our unusual kitchen table has a funny story. My company downsized offices a few years ago and we had two large conference rooms with huge conference tables. When we moved space they were going to dump almost all of the furniture. My DH, the pack rat he is, had to come in and look over everything first. The conference tables were actually made up of 3 of these 5'x5' squares. So we took two of them home. I'd like something a little more rustic but this works for now. It can seat 8 and if we have a really large crowd we can pull out the other square and make it even bigger.
As to the marble, yes, it does have beige veining in it too. Here is a closeup:
