Today Lowe's just delivered my second set of Maytags. This set is a mid range priced. The one I have upstairs is on the high end, both top loaders. I really like my set upstairs and I think I like this newest set too. This latest does not have a detergent dispenser or one for fabric softener. I don't use fabric softener anyway. It does have a signal to let you know when it is time to put it in I guess. The dryer does not have a light in it, but that does not bother me. I got mine on Cyber Monday sale at Lowe's, had them hold it till I was ready for it to be delivered. I have heard Speed Queen is also good.

I think my dryer is the least expensive Maytag Lowes had. I do believe we paid $299 for it. I told my husband just to buy something cheap, I didn't care. My washer is a Kenmore, which I've had about 20 years now. It should be breaking down any day now...... ;)

I too have a top load Maytag and am very pleased with it. It is pretty basic, with knobs instead of push buttons that I think can go bad quicker. It is one of the Centennial models, It is designed, engineered and assembled in the U.S.A., so you can buy it with genuine American Pride.
It is not an Energy Star, as I didn't want the washer to decide just how much water was needed to properly wash and rinse a load. I saw that feature as just something else that could go bad.

We've had our Speed Queen washing machine
for well over 22 years and would get another in a heartbeat if and when this one ever dies. Love the stainless steel interior. It is a top loader.

Our dryer is an Amana and we've had it almost as long.

You're making me feel good. Mine lasted a whole 6 years! Top of the line Whirlpool Duet. Cannot believe it. We have a new washer being delivered tomorrow. After researching on this forum and the Laundry room plus going on Epinions.com, I bought the bottom line top-loading Speed Queen ($800). Speed Queen has a set price, no discounting. We called many places and got the same quote (within $10.00. The only negotiation was on the delivery charge. The appliance store we bought from wanted to charge $50.00 but DH got them to waive the delivery charge because one of the places he talked to delivered free. The guys at the local appliance store seemed happy with my decision. One of the workers said he bought a five year old used Speed Queen and it's still working fine after ten years. At our appliance store, the sales person seemed to think that front loaders were on their way out. When I checked out reviews for Speed Queen from actual owners, everyone gave it 5 stars. Hope this has been helpful.

We're going tomorrow to check out the Speed Queen machines. From what I've read they seem to be the best and still make a quality machine.

I'm so disappointed in Whirlpool. Last machine I had from them lasted over 10 years. To have this last only a little over 4 years is disgusting. No wonder they push the extended warranties.

hubster insisted I have one of those fancy schmancy top loaders without an agitator last summer...it lasted three days...it was a Samsung...my clothes stunk and i just didn't think my clothes were clean...it went back and we bought a General Electric with an agitator...it has a capacity to wash the entire nation of Chinas clothes...but I like it cause I can wash my queen size comforter...it's ok...its very quiet and if I keep it balanced you cant even hear when its spinning!! I'd love an old fashioned one like I had for 15 years that washed my clothes...I could start the cycle over if I wanted...tooo many gimmicks on the machines now and they dont last but 5 or 10 years!

I replaced my 33 YO Kenmore set with Speed Queens nearly 4 years ago and have been happy with the choice.

The men who delivered and set up were also repairmen. They commented that they probably wouldn't see me again because the durable SQ's rarely had problems. So far, they've been right.

Sue, who died nine years ago, had a fairly large Kenmore top-loader with knobs ... that the kids stored with me ... and I began using several years ago when uncle's that I'd been using was taken out to lend to landlord's employee who had none in his rented house, then returned, then was taken to landlord's cottage in Muskoka - looks like a permanent placement.

Doesn't get heavy usage here ... though, doing the first wash in a long time, I did 17 shirts on Saturday, "warm" but raining (presentable ones: didn't include the ones for house and garden, everyday use). Sunday morning, wondering whether I had one for church, pulled about three out of the washer, hung them to dry ... lectured myself for not having done it on Sat night, so they could have dried overnight. Found a shirt that would do the job, so didn't need to throw them into the dryer.

Reasonably comfortable hanging that big wash on the line - still not fully dry on Tuesday, but may bring them in tomorrow.

Next load, done Sunday, still "warm" (I.e. about freezing) but rain stopped, did only set of flannelette sheets, then threw into dryer to put back on bed.

I don't know how long Sue had the washer prior to when the young ones broke up the household, after her death.

Our new SQ432 is being delivered tomorrow. Very impressed with all the reviews as well as the input I received here. The guy didn't have any on the floor but was expecting one in tomorrow and it will be delivered tomorrow afternoon.

First time I'm actually looking forward to doing laundry! I like the fact it's a straight forward, set it, pull the knob and walk away. Not like having to push this button, this button, this button and then start. What a pain.

Wish some of the reviews about the Cabrio had come out before I bought the darn thing. Couldn't agree more with all the things said about it. I especially like the comments about how it tangled sheets even though in the instruction book it states the special setting for sheets is suppose to prevent that. HA!

I prefer the simple machines also. A couple of years ago I visited a friend who had remodeled his house and had very fancy push button washer and dryers. I just had to wing it on operating them with so many different choices of cycles.
