Thank goodness I read this. I was beginning to think I had entered the twilight zone. I just bought a Maytag Epic Z washer. I have tried 3 different HE detergents. I am literally using a shot glass of detergent. I have clothes that arenÂt clean and are full of soap after a 2 hour wash cycle and 6 rinse cycles! I am certainly not saving water or energy at this point. I have called Maytag and they have sent out two different repair companies both said the washer was working fine. That maybe I should use even less detergent, that wouldnÂt be a problem if my clothes were coming out clean. They have both suggested that he washers just donÂt work well with softened water. Maytag is denying that and Home Depot is refusing to allow me to exchange it after less than a week. All I want is my old fashioned water hog back!

Although it seems counterintuitive, using even less detergent than you are now may do the trick. One reason for poor cleaning is too much detergent, which is very easy to do with softened water. Try washing with only a tablespoon or so and see if that helps. A shot glass of detergent would mess up my machine and seriously interfere with cleaning. My machines are FLS, but I think some of the same HE prinicples may apply to your machine. It's worth a try, isn't it?

If you've been using high-sudsing detergents in an inefficiently-rinsing TL there is probably a high-level of the detergent embedded in the fibers of your clothing and all that has to work its way out before you'll fnd the right detergent level. I sometimes forget this when I was guests' clothing and wind up with a mess of suds and un-cleaned clothes.
Also it sometimes takes trying more than few detergents to find the one that works perfectly in your machine and with your water chemistry.

Thanks for posting, I am so glad that someone else out there knows kinda what I am going through! Well Im sorry that you are going thru the same thing.

Its not right I am on my second new washer, you will have to read some of my posts of the problems Im having, I also talk about how much soap etc. and you can see the answers Im getting.

Are you having twisting issues too?

I am so burned out, I will write more tomorrow. But I think we do need to talk, I have been waiting for someone else that was having problems. :(

I hope you stick around and maybe we can get others and put a stop to this not enough water stuff, that is what I think why there is a problem.

Hello Marie, I can't really help you on the twisting of your laundry in your FL machine. I still have my old TL. But, I'm with Molly on trying less and less detergent. Maybe even try a different detergent.

I will have to go over to your thread with the pics. May scare me from purchasing a FL...
