I like the idea. Some stylists get so busy for their selected hours that it takes weeks to get into see them. Many people set up regular haircuts, colors and styles at their favorite stylist just so they know they can get in. When a stylist is really good, it shows! Lucky for me I have one I like and appointments are within a week.

My friend is a sylist and does that periodically.

yes, when we moved last year I looked around for a bit before choosing a stylist. She no longer takes any more clients. When I go in its like clockwork. She is very busy, but I never wait over 3 minutes. She has her appointments allotted the amount of time for the service, so when I walk out, the next one is walking in the door. She runs a tight ship, so she tells you up front if you are late, she will no longer accept you as a client. I have no problem with this, I always know that I will be seen when I walk in. Of course, if its a true emergency, she would bend the rules, she's a lovely person and does wonderful work.

Think she might be more receptive ...

My salon has me scheduled out for the year, my stylist is so popular.

A good stylist is hard to find, and standing appointments are necessary around here .

And you know, today I finally made it into the IN crowd. The man who does my hair has taken me on a casual basis for years. The last time I went in I told him I want to go darker. He said fine, but we have to do some repairing first.

Had to clip off old highlights and some damage, etc. and we went a couple of shades darker. He had me come again in six weeks (which was today) for a touch up on the cut, and go another all over shade darker. He wanted to see what kind of regrowth I would have, how I would retain the colour, would I like the darker after living with it, etc.

Today, while I was being rinsed, he came over with a card for my next appointment (six weeks). *gasp* I, I, I....I am a REGULAR now! It was like winning an award ROFLMAO!

I had a standing weekly appointment with my stylist for years, UNTIL he left town. Never had another as good as him!

My stylist is my manicurist and does not accept new clients. Since I closed down my store front travel agency and opened my concierge service I no longer accept new clients. I limit to 18 clients who pay me a hefty annual retainer to handle their travel business.

Tis the way of the future I guess.

Not surprising at all. Many professionals that have a good client base don't want to take on new obligations. Especially when there's a potential of issues. After we closed the store, I limited the number of clients I would service.

Business must be good.

It doesn't surprise me either. It took me over four months to get an appointment with my current hairdresser when I was referred by a mutual friend. I book my every 5 week appointments 3 or 4 months in advance. If I have to miss one I try to trade it with another client. She is fully booked at all times.

... or son's female companion (a former hairdresser) ...

... cut my hair ...

oh, about every six months or so ...

... for no fee.

I think it's about when they can't stand my shaggy locks showing up around there any more - especially the former hairdresser: I think she gets twitchy fingers!

I book 3 months in advance for both colour and hair cuts - separate businesses but on same floor so I go one week for colour and the next for a cut and of course located at the other end of Toronto. I don't dare book same day in case colourist is behind. Many of the clientele do, and I am sure everyone knows that these are the "special" clients - they don't pay any more than I do, but they have money. I have very thick, dry, naturally wavy hair that is the devil to cut - and since I have to have my hair coloured auburn - at 60 - greyed in my 20s to a horrible iron grey -it is a blessing to find a good colourist. I did it myself for years before the colour I used was d/c - and then the next etc. etc. I have found though that in earlier years that I could get in some place just because a good hair dresser can do anything with my hair - whereas I am useless - and it makes them look good. Thankfully, I have a Toronto doctor - but she is a sole practitioner and I am afraid every time I go that she will announce her retirement, despite being 10 years my junior. It is almost impossible to get a doctor in Toronto or Ontario in general - and yes, you do have to be interviewed - and the doctors can turn you down. I hope you find a good hair dresser.
