I'm back and I'm not a troll. I'm just irritated because I have the same problem as some of you have. But instead of falling into some weird delusional state about recessed lighting, I'm looking for real answers. I bought the house in 2007 and i noticed the smell, here we are in 2016 and the same smell is there, sometimes it disappears and sometimes it comes back with a vengeance. For a while I thought it was a dead rodent (thats what it smells like), but after a few years that seemed very unlikely. The smell is most pronounced when it is rainy. The wetter the day, the more it smells. It's just embarassing because we rent out our room downstairs to a woman, and i think it sucks that she has to smell it. In addition to the dead animal smell, I sometimes smell...toilet. A strong smell of urine. I was sure the smell was coming from UNDER the stairs, but when i went into the garage and cut out a piece of the wall, stuck my head in the hole along with a flashlight, there was no smell, and absolutely nothing under the stairs. The smell seems to come from the wall that separates our house from the next door neighbor's house (i live in San Francisco, our houses are all squeezed together). I asked my neighbor if he ever smells anything, he said no. So I assume it isn't the wall that joins the two houses. I've never had a professional come look at the house. I don't even know who to ask. I've had plumbers and contractractors in the house for various reasons, and when I mention it to them, they just kinda blow me off. But, maybe I should change my light-switches??? I have plastic light switches near the stairs--maybe light is reflecting off planet venus, getting magnified through my window, melting the light switches? That must be it, case closed, thank god I have the soccer moms on Houzz to help me solve this mystery!

Hello, Would like to know how many BTUs (for 1 wallmount system)would I need for two floors of 690 sqfeet (each floor). The Unit will be on the 2nd floor in the middle between 2 bedrooms and a washroom (over washroom door facing master bedroom). It will be a dual split system. ------------------------------------- Also would like to know which is a safe reliable cost efficient brand, example of wall mounted (split systems) air conditions I've heard of: Fujitsu (they give 10 years warranty parts and labour) Mitsubishi (6 yrs parts and labour however been making them longer) Daikin (6 yrs parts and labour) Igloo York Carrier Grey All about the same price... ----------------------------------- Finally, is it better to get a dual system (with heat pump), from my understanding they are almost the same price and the advantage is that it has a variable BTU which may save some $$. Since the heat pump will be at the higher level then it wont heat as much however it is coming at about the same price. Then again more electronics in a system more chances of malfunctioning sooner? What type of fridge and filter? And you are using the filtered water with the recommended filter? We have a Jenn Air, and although our water line split last year and was replaced, we have never noticed this smell/taste from either the old or new water line. Mind you, when I am late on replacing the filter...then I notice all SORTS of tastes...yuk! I am wondering if it is your water storage compartment in the door needs a good deoderizing? Maybe flush the line with something to neutralize the smell in the compartment?

Our parents on both sides were on farms and used food scraps for livestock etc and what was burnable was burned. Garbage was buried until dumps came along closer to their country homes. Here we must separate all recyclables into blue bins and bags for paper/newspaper. We also are required to put compostables into a separate container. These are all taken once a week. Garbage is minimal and is picked up every two weeks. We use tall generic garbage bags and put it out once about month. Any stinkies (drip liners for meat mostly) are kept in the freezer and put out in the garbage bags.
