Anyone else enjoying the Food Network Show Diners, Drive-in's and Dives with Guy Fieri? This is on the Food Network and I record and watch religiously. I really enjoy it and it is definitely my kind of food, although it varies considerably.

Okay, LindaC will probably say she hates it because she seems to hate anything I like, but what the heck. I'm a big boy and I can take it!

I love this show and it is a refreshing show on a network of same-o-same-o!

Duane, have you seen the one on a car-wash/restaurant here in SA? I've heard about it once from a friend in fw that saw it on the same program, but have never found anyone here in SA that knows anything about it, or where it is.

Have you made the steak au poivre that the guy from Nebraska cooked? It's dynamite. I have ten or so shows recorded that have recipes I want to try. His other show is terrible. He put carrots in kimchi and that was it for me.

I know these are from 12 and 13yrs ago, however here goes. 3 layers - issue- light transmission and keeping the heat in. IT WORKS - i installed 3 layers (top layer is what i call my sacrafice layer do to our severe weather in Lake Tahoe/ Carson City NV. i kept the thickness of either 6 or 8mil each i can get specifics if you like. i also installed black steel barrels filled with water on the North end as thermal mass and escavated aproximately 8 feet down below frost line. i also have two 250gallon totes filled with water. the sun heats up the barrels and during the day and at night the barrels release heat slowly through the night, along with the 8 feet down im using the natural heat from the earth. i ran spiral HVAC Duct to the green house from the main house. natural gas is way cheaper. the green house gets too hot late morning so fans come on to compensate. first year second design of greenhouse. oh i also have a saw tooth roof with motorized reflectors to maximise sun rays and have led grow light to compensate. im still learning but i sure wish i could find a cutting edge greenhouse book since summer is around the corner and im hoping i dont get a 200degree hot house. im thinking the 8 feet down will cool it a bit but we shale find out quickly. any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for you kind thoughts. I'm still reeling from all this, but my main concerns are for the immediate families (my brother and his other son;our elderly friend's family and now, my other friend's only child). I watched the late news at 10PM tonight to see if there was anymore info, but what they reported was vague and confusing. I do want to make clear one thing . . . reading back to my original post, it sounded like I called my friend's child to pass on the news. I was rattled when I wrote it (THAT'S an understatement!); I meant that I had to call *my* DS to tell him the sad news, not my friend's. Her child, a daughter, now lives in San Francisco and I don't know her new phone number. (Sigh!)As much as I'm hurting, my brother, other nephew, and now my friends are the ones that are really feeling the pain and my heart breaks for them.

Works for us.... Actually I think it's hugely efficient!! :) All water and washing in one big area with no wasted walking around and always right by the dishwasher and disposal. Three people can easily stand at it and share the touch faucet if need be. I went with the Kohler Pro Taskcenter. 5 feet total length. each of the two larger sinks measure 21 wide by 17.5. It takes up the center window section in the photos. Sorry for the real-life messy photos! We have a separate bar sink and I didn't want a prep sink in my island. I like to spread out in every direction when working at the island and didn't want to sacrifice any of the surface area of the island to a sink. A big single wasn't for me: I always have things draining.... yes, I wash a lot by hand: knives, wooden spoons, delicate china teacups etc. So the draining compartment is important to me. If I have something soaking then I can still use the disposal section to pitch out liquids etc before loading in the dishwasher. And things that just need a quick rinse can get it and then get set over on the draining side. The sliding accessories are amazing. It comes with a huge cutting board, a heavy stainless colander, a plastic basin and a foldable grate. The colander and basin are the shape of the center section and all four pieces can slide along on the inset lip and go the full length of the sink just like the Kohler Stages sink allows for sliding accessories. In the photos above, the grate is folded in half and I have a sink drainer down in the bottom of the sink so I have double the draining area if necessary. It's an absolute joy to work at and was one of my best kitchen decisions. Triples aren't everyones cup of tea, but it's perfect for me!

Any recs for triple-track storm windows for historic house?

@overhear Before the last two summers' restoration work, many of the sashes were painted shut, and a lot of the aluminum storms didn't open more than 20 cm (8"), so we have a lot more air movement in the house now. Most of the summer, we're able to keep the house cool by closing everything up during the day, and then opening windows and putting window fans in the bedrooms at night. Considering that the house has no insulation in the walls, this is no small feat! I was initially concerned about whether enough breeze would get in because of the way the casements open, but it wasn't an issue last summer. As for maintenance - the house is covered in original, 140-year-old wood trim, including a lot of "gingerbread" that I've been stripping and restoring over the last two years. The old growth wood is in amazing condition, (other than a few areas with rot that I repaired with Rhino wood repair - an amazing product!) In general, new growth wood doesn't last nearly as long, but when primed and painted, new wood windows will last longer than vinyl replacement windows, which are rarely guaranteed for more than 10 years. Mine are made of accoya, which is a specially treated wood product that is supposed to last up to 50 years! I'm estimating that touch-ups to paint will be necessary every 5 years or so, but the trick is to keep up with touch-ups so that a major repainting isn't necessary. Putty should be replaced every 20 years (mine have gone too long!) but my storms have wood stops so they won't need to be redone. One of the few I try to catch on TFN these days. I don't watch it that much anymore. He was up at a diner at the lake a couple of years ago. Just waitng for "them" to ban diners now....LOL!

Not sure if Linda watches but I'm pretty sure she loves those Iowa pork sandwiches sold at diners and gas stations across the state...I sure do when passing through. Hey, she knows what Crappie is and can appreciate it too....and probably knows a good wine to go with both...LOL! For me it would be Crown or cheap beer..LOL It's all good....

I watch that show too. In fact I have three or four dives/dinners I want to submit! They're were we go when we want country food (3) or the best steak and ribs locally (1). Talked me into it, I'm going to nominate them.

I love it! I saw one about 6 months ago, or so, on bbq places. One used only salt and pepper for their rub, before smoking the meat. I would dearly love to know what/where that place is! I am allergic to garlic, and love smoked pork. Eating out while traveling can be a real challenge! I have started making a list of triple d's that sound interesting, for when we are on the road.

Of course I watch it, why do you think I went to Joe's Gizzard City on my honeymoon. LOL

He's done Rosie's Diner, just about 40 miles from me, and he's done Blimpie's in Ann Arbor and, of course, Joe's Gizzard City.

I haven't been to Blimpie's yet, but I'm gonna!

Frankly I don't often watch it because I forget when it's on....but I really like Guy and love the way he pronounces his last name. My tongue doesn't do that easily.
Hey...I live in Iowa and go to the Iowa State Fair every year at least once, where they sell many "gourmet foods" on a stick! Guy needs to visit...the pork chops on a stick would make his day!

Duane, it's one of the few food network shows my dh and I watch as often as possible. I love seeing different parts of the country through his stomach, I mean eyes. He has been places that I have family and I can tell them about new places for them to try! I want his job!!! Gina

Actually my brother got me watching last year when he was on the mend. Guy so reminds me of my brother-same mannerisms and quirkiness...he's fun to watch!

My only gripe is the diner he ate at here in Philly...."the Dining Car". Its really not that great of a diner. Used to be several years ago but the last time I was there I did get the creamed chipped beef over toast and I sent it back!
It was terrible as well as cold. I know of at least 5 diners off the top of my head that are far superior to the Dining Car.

As for Guy...I really like him traveling better that cooking on a set. He has a dynamite personality the way he plays off other people...when i watch his "cooking" show its a little bland.

Tami, if you go to Food Network web site and find Guys show, it tells you where the places are that he goes to. Last year on our way to Arizona, we stopped at Clanton's in Vanita OK. We went on the web site and got the exact address. It was all he said and more. A great place to eat.

Linda, you know I love you. Just enjoy giving you a barb back every now and again. I know you can dish it out as much as you can take it, and that I truly enjoy about you! You are a definite firecracker.

About Guy being 400 lb's...I was wondering the same thing. Unlike Giada he actually looks like he is eating everything and not just a small bite either! Maybe that is why one of his other shows is Guy's Big Bite! Ha !..or did I dream that?

I watch all of his shows too. I really like Ultimate Recipe Showdown too. He's the host. The judges compliment everyone on the good aspects of their dishes instead of tearing them apart.

"Guy's Dainty Nibbles" wouldn't exactly fit, would it? LOL.
I think all the FTV personalities have gained weight. Maybe Giada tries to control herself. You would HAVE TO! It's a terrible job to have health-wise!

I love it, too. It's nice to see a show about places where real people eat. My favorite was the episode about Mo Gridder's in the Bronx, a combination auto-repair shop/barbecue shack. You can get a rack of ribs while your car's up on the rack. What a great use of time!

We're heading there first thing next trip home to NYC.
