This is really a cool cam. As of earlier today one of the cameras were down (they usually have 2 going at once). I was able to watch dad swoop in and bring a big fish to mama and baby eagle a couple of days ago. Mom seems to be doing a great job of feeding baby. I've had birds for many years and currently have a pair of cockatiels. It's always amazed me as to how they communicate with each other and share the parenting duties while breeding a clutch of eggs. Most birds are social and very flock dependent. Without any romanticism involved, they definitely mourn the loss of their mate. Some die from the loneliness afterward. While wild birds may be less attached to their mate and have stronger instincts for survival, their bodies still experience normal hormonal changes when breeding that make them more attached to their mate & their young. That poor male is surely very confused over his missing family. I've lived in several areas that had many different animals that caused havoc with pets and people, alligators and snakes in the south, coyotes in California, and raccoons and deer here in Michigan. When ever someone complains about them causing trouble I have only one thought and that's that they were here first and it's part of living in the area that we choose to live in. I wonder what they think when they almost get hit by our cars, or can't find food because a builder has bulldozed their forest down.

Oh gosh, Cooperbailey, isn't watching nesting birds addicting! I have been watching a pair of osprey, located in Loch Garten in Scotland, for about 5 years now. The same female has been nesting there for a long time, but her long-time mate didn't return a couple of years ago and she now has a new male for the past couple of seasons. I have to say, it is exciting to watch (sometimes even stressful depending on what is going on at any given moment), and sometimes witnessing nature take it's course can be heartbreaking. When a chick that you watched from egg to fluffball to feathered youngster doesn't make it, it isn't easy to take. But when they do make it, you can only feel a sense of pride to watch them grow up, literally right before your eyes!
