I think it's fair to say that....save California...most of the population is clustered heavily along the east coast. people are much more spread out in the west.

Jess: I can see why you want homemade treatment for cats' ear-mites, folks in America reported paying $54 per vet visit/medication. Just like my over $1,000 bill for flu-shot reaction & vertigo & bleeding ear .. ..I solved it through rinsing my ear with alcohol/vinegar (to get rid of the blood & wax), then with hydrogen peroxide. And the doc didn't even tell me about that, I googled. Regular cleaning & prevention is what helps, rather than $$$$ methods. During my flu-shot reaction with inner-ear blockage, I rinsed with alcohol/vinegar at least 10 times, and with hydrogen peroxide at least 20 times during a 2-month period .. just to clean the dried blood & fluid & wax that constantly accumulated overnight. Even after strong antibiotics for my pneumonia, and AFTER the doc removed compacted ear-wax, I still have to rinse my ear with hydrogen peroxide whenever it gets blocked (after shower), leading to vertigo again. Preventive measure makes more sense than $$$ treatment. The bill for bronchoscopy to get a sample fluid of my lung was over $5,000. And the bill for Fiberoptic Laryngoscopy was outrageous. No $$$$ diagnostic tool can take place of prevention and regular cleaning. I had human-scabies (mite-skin-infection) while growing up in VN. My legs looked like a leper. Mom solved it .... she washed my legs frequently with soap, and dressed me in long pants, so flies won't re-infect again. Frequent cleaning & preventing re-infection is the key to get rid of mites. Ex-pat Brit here. Yes, 'to fancy' another person definitely means to be attracted to them romantically/sexually, but it can also be used in other contexts to mean 'feel a desire for' in a non-sexual way as in 'Cor, I don't half fancy a cup of tea!' or 'Where do you fancy going for dinner tonight?'. Then there are sayings like 'A little bit of what you fancy does you good' which is a deliberately slightly naughty way to say 'Go for it', about something like an indulgent second slice of cake, probably said with a grin and/or a wink. The adjective 'fancy' generally means elaborate in style and/or a bit posh. You can describe someone as a bit of a 'fancy-pants' or speak of someone's fancy new car. If something 'tickles your fancy' it means it appeals to you/evokes a desire for it. My mother, whose name was Nancy, was irritated by the saying, from a song I think, 'Nancy, Nancy, tickle your fancy', which was deliberately ambiguous/suggestive. 'Fanny' in Britain refers to..ahem..a ladies 'front bottom'! (The British of all classes love a bit of word-play, particularly if risque alternative meanings are involved.) :-)

Actually both the flutter and pendulum are related. Flutter says that if you apply the right flow against something that's capable of movement, and it has some force that opposes that movement, you can in the right conditions get an oscillation (i.e., moving back and forth rather than just deflecting and staying there). The pendulum stuff Stax links explains that if you have a pendulum that you start in motion (and it just requires gravity, not air), that the period (how long takes to swings back and forth) stays constant even when the amount its swing decreases. It also shows that the period is dependent on the length of the cord rather than the weight. So a gust of wing could set it swinging like a pendulum. However, to keep it swinging you need either one of two things, strategically timed gusts (if you have ever seen a pendulum display in a museum, they usually use a timed electromagnet to keep pushing on the pendulum). However, if you have a steady wind, that wouldn't allow the pendulum to swing back except that there may be other forces in play (which would be the definition of flutter). It is correct that it often doesn't take much disruption to stop the feedback loop that causes flutter (although just changing the point of attachment a bit may not be sufficient).
