Comments (3)It is possibly yucca aloifolia, they have long stalks on top of tall plants. They may be hardy there, I'm not sure. If it is a low growing clump of yucca its possibly filamentosa they are very hardy. It could also be rostrata, recurvifolia, and maybe a few others. Their are so many diffrent types of yucca that it would be hard to tell exactly which one you have without a picture. most seem to have pretty long flower stalks, some longer than others. Filamentosa usually has stalks about 6' high on average. maybe you can do a search on the web under the the species names I provided and find the one you have....See MoreCorn stalks...
Comments (27)Check your medication - your mood swings from this <No offense meant to you, Gumby. I respect your opinion> to talking about others sarcasm? Which makes me ask why someone who declares <I indeed have plenty of experience composting and gardening.> would ask this question to begin with? Then not accept that you need only to add water to heat up your corn stalks. It will work with a small (very small) pile of grass clippings also. Just add the water, sparingly. Maybe you should pick up a compost thermometer to help....See MoreRue Anemone
Comments (4)Here's a GoBotany link that has good photos of Thalictrum pubescens flowers and leaves. Go to the 3rd photo from the right, and click on that leaf photo to expand. You'll see that the pubescence is obvious under good light and focus. Your petioles seem too smooth for that species. Here's a GoBotany link that covers Thalictrum revolutum. Those two (pubescens and revolutum) have a much different look, especially when in flower. T. revolutum's leaves are much lighter underneath, but you have to rub a leaf to see the waxy bloom come off. I have never seen T. macrostylum, but BONAP shows that is a rare plant throughout its range. I did check pressed specimens that SERNEC posted from botanists in your area, and it appears that Thalictrum macrostylum has less robust leaves than shown in your photos. It will be pretty easy to confirm ID once your plant flowers, because none of those three are similar. I do believe, though, that T. revolutum is the most likely candidate....See MoreKatieC
