My daughter is taking two online classes (psychology and ethics) and it seems to depend on the teacher as to how the classes are presented. She said the psychology is clear and she knows what she needs to do while the ethics class is kind of hazy as to expectations. As I said it depends a lot on the professor. Good luck. Satine

What I recommend often is the use of good teaching tutorials. There's lots of sources online and varying degrees of good and bad. There's one's specific to the windows operating system you are using, to the application you want to learn, to preparing for various certification.

You don't mention exactly what it is your wanting classes for. If general beginner type tutorials on using a computer there's many. But you should be specific to your operating system to make the most of it.

I think the sevenforums and eightforums have excellent tutorials for those versions of Windows. For example here's the link to the sevenforums. Specifically the tutorials page there's much more there of course.

For a site that has been around for some time with general use tutorials plus application specific information try looking at the free teachanolddognewtricks.com site.

There's others similar but you run into some being outdated and for XP. So that's why it's important to find out what OS you want to learn about.

Joining a forum like Landzdown is a good thing to do also, because the team there are extremely helpful and top of the line professionals volunteering their services for free to help others. You can ask anything and never be spoken down to which unfortunately happens all to often at some sites.

Marie, can you take your computer to Best Buy or a computer store in your area? They charge $80 around here to check it thoroughly to make sure everything is working o.k. and $40 to add ram to it.

If you are just having 'adjusting/how-to' issues, Raven and several folks on this forum have always helped me - love them for that.

I read your thread at the computer forum, Marie. There are a couple of questions that I would have asked you before sending you off for a new browser. # 1 How much free space is left on your hard drive? #2 Have you defragged your system lately? As innocuous as these questions seem...they may be at the route of your pesky problems.

I, personally, support the suggestion that you retire IE and go to another browser. Don't delete it, as Snidely advised not to do so. It is needed for behind the scene MS work. But clean out whatever you have there for personal additions...i.e. bookmarks, etc. and transfer them to Firefox. I'm not a Chrome fan...but if you prefer it...transfer your IE "stuff" to it. The point is to reduce the stress on your system if it is, indeed, reaching its capacity.

I don't think you have anything nasty on your system. I think it may be limited in hard drive space...and it's tired.

Of course...this is JMHO...for what it's worth.

How old is your computer? I had a 10 year old computer with windows XP that died about a week ago. It wouldn't turn on and my son said it was most likely the power supply. He offered to replace it for me, but I told him to forget it. I had been thinking about getting a new one anyhow.
My XP computer didn't work very well at a lot of websites due to the speed of the processor and limited memory it had. There wasn't really anything wrong with it other than age because one of my sons is a software engineer and he had done everything he could to tune it up.
I wanted to buy a new computer but didn't like what I had heard about Windows 8; luckily my son-in-law had just gotten a new gaming computer and gave me his old one with Windows 7 and it is terrific for me.
You may just need to get a newer computer.

HP announced that they are bringing back windows 7 on their new computers by popular demand so they are definitely available. I just helped a friend find one and it was not difficult.

I would recommend that you go download the free belarc advisor tool and run it, it will produce a complete list of everything you need to know about the computer, including the amount of ram memory, hard drive size, which windows version, which IE version, etc tons of valuable information you need to answer questions concerning your pc . Plus you can print it out to keep handy in your files. This will give you some insight into what is what in there.

Doing standard maintenance is always a good idea like defragging, and cleaning out old unused programs.
IE is an integral part of the windows operating system so it would remain on the system.
What you can try is a reinstall of IE8 the last version for xp.
Installing several other browsers is fine, try them out and see if they help the problem. Having them on there's not a problem.

Run belarc find out what you have there that information will help you no matter what decision you make. It is as simple as download, double click install, run and voila all your computer information right there.
A computer low on memory, an old power supply, hard drive problems can give you a wide variety of symptoms so having the information is important.
