My brother and SIL have the newer Duets stacked (not the 'sport' models), They've had them for maybe 18 months on a house with a minimal crawl space (NO basement, concrete foundation walls and then just joists/mini-columns)They say they have not had problems or vibration and love it. This probably won't help but I have LG's TROMM w/adaptable panel-it means the dryer's controls can be either on top or on the bottom. I have them stacked so the controls are on the bottom now so just above the washers control panel. Washer is 4.0.dryer like 7.3 or 7.4. The set is little over two years old w/no problems,no mildew and no "walking".Pretty quiet too. However they don't make them anymore (model lg 2496).I think it is really good idea to have the adaptable control panel. I never found out why they stopped making these swapable panels.I'm short and this is just so easy for me. Really good looking set too.
It still might be available on line somewhere.

Speed Queen makes an all-in-one washer/dryer stack, but be aware that can't be separated later -- it is designed to be one big monolith. Both the washer and dryer are the same capacity as their standalone counterparts., though!

Our laundry room is so cramped that I'm seriously considering something like this after my current set bites the dust. I've never seen one in person though so I don't know how high up the dryer is, but it is probably not too bad unless you are very short.

You might regret them being inseparable, if the washer or dryer ever needs an expensive repair.

My LGs can be stacked and we were thinking we would stack them, but we have them on pedestals and have decided to keep them that way. They are very smooth operating and I don't think you'd have any trouble with them stacked.

Thanks all. Boy do I hope I can find those LG's with the panel option on the bottom. I am not that short but my babysitter is and she helps with kids laundry...was just planning to keep a short stool handy...

The other posts here about need to hit the duets to fix issues scares me a little....but will see if those LGs are around.

I have an LG pair stacked with no pedestal. I'm 5'9" and my face is at the middle of the dryer door. I reach up to turn it on. It's not a stretch, it's just above my head a little. Not as bad as the top of the pantry...

Thanks czechchick2! How do you deal with installation if you order the dryer thru the internet? I will see if I can get the matching washer elsewhere as this looks ideal. Also, can you tell me what else made you chose LG?

newly_suburban, I chose the LG b/c I simply liked it. It was little bit more money than I wanted to spend on WD but the idea of the swapable panel sold me. And if I ever decide to put it side by side I can switch the panel to the top.Other, it has stainless steel tubs and all the option I needed including the heater.
I would call LG company,they might help you find the set somewhere,or just do extensive search on line, you might be lucky.
I am really happy w/the set so farno problems at allin over two years.
I look around the net tosee if I can help you.

newly_suburban, go to ebay and type the model number LG WM2496HSM. There is 14 of them in titanium, and they have few matching dryers too. Figures, ebay has it all.

newly_suburban, I didn't have time earlier so I just checked the W+Ds. The only adaptable control dryer is the one from the website I posted earlier. Ebay has the matching washers.
Instalation is easy. Washer needs to be leveled first and the dryer sits on top of it but you need the little stacking kit for 27" size.It is just little frame like thing,cheap too. It takes two man to put the dryer on top. And just plug in. In case the dryers plug is different than what you have on the wall now, you will have to change it but that's easily done. I did one myself before.

Mine was ordered w/the dryer controlers already on the bottom but it comes w/instructions too. I wasn't curious enough yet to open it and see. There are screws on each side,covered to get in.
My dryer is hooked to the flexible venting hose from back but on the bottom (both sides)there are round openings w/covers in them so I guess it can be vented from either side. I think you would have to open the back panel and open the side hole to attached the vent hose(I'm guessing here. Probably it comes w/instructions too. I would call LG and bother them, maybe they might send someone to install it properly if you worry about it.I was here when they delivered mine and it took about 1/2 an hour to do the whole thing. They didn't run any wash cycles but made sure it was working.The leveling is good from day one too.
I really like the set and it is good looking too.
