I love my potfiller, use it many times a day in my 14' square kitchen over a 36" range. Still, I'm going to vote no in your situation because your space is tight & you have a lot going on in that area. I don't think the potfiller has anything to do with the size of the kitchen or range. It's either practical for you or it's not. I never slip on water in my kitchen like I used to -- that's how often I used to schlep water to the range and that's how clumsy I was in transit! I love adding a little more water here and there over and over -- in addition to filling pots for rice or pasta or soup stock. BTW, installation is not always pricey. My simple $90 faucet went into an open wall we were plumbing for a washer/dryer on the other side. YMMV. But squeeze a potfiller under an OTR microwave? I think it would be awkward to use at best -- and I'm short. For me this would defeat the purpose of "convenience." So, "no." As you hint, you may be remodeling again someday so maybe he can save the potfiller in his treasure bag for the next / last kitchen. Who knows how many gadgets will be available for marital disputes by then! Have you seen the new Blue Star wall ovens with French doors?????

I suppose it also depends on what you want from your MW. We do have the IKEA cabinet I showed above and a small MW that fits nicely in that. But! I wanted a second oven and went on a quest. I had no idea my quest would bring me to MW/Convection ovens. They get great reviews! Who knew! :-) But the space we have for a MW is only 24" wide and this limits what I can cook in a Convection oven. I really want my second oven to be able to take full size cookie sheets. This then lead me to the OTR MW/Convection ovens which can take full sized cookie sheets. Soooo  I suppose if I only wanted a MW for reheating coffee and popping corn, I would not go with one over the range  unless space gave me no other option. BTW  My last house had a small kitchen that came with an OTR MW. I have no memory of ever not liking it for any reason. When it died, I replaced it with a really inexpensive ($130) OTR MW from Home Depot. It was sooooo much better than the old one  all for just $130. So  they really do not have to cost a lot of moneyÂ

Yes I LOVED my Wolf too for the 4.5 years that the oven was usable. I used to be a big fan on this forum. Function wise, it was great. That is what makes it SO disappointing. I would much rather be here saying how they stood behind their products. I would advise anyone who has the DF to wipe it out on the bottom with a damp white paper towel periodically to check for the blue shards. I noticed mine after running the self clean but others have had failure without using self clean. They do seem to fix it while under full warranty, which is usually the first two years. The wall ovens seem to fail more quickly and under warranty. The ranges, at least mine and the ones I've read about seem to fail later. They have on occasion fixed some out of full warranty but other times as in my case, they won't. You can get the Wolf gas range and it does not have the blue interior so no chipping, but if you are going all gas there are other brands to consider. I still have my range but I have a wall oven so the range oven is mostly used for storage. I will keep something warm in it if it is covered and no fan. One of these days when there is a DF that I have confidence in I might replace it. I won't pay to get it fixed because they won't tell me how much only that the bill would start at $800+ and only one year warranty on the replacement liner. Sort of no confidence in their own product considering that this has been an issue for years. The M series wall oven has been made to address this issue but they continue to sell the E series and DF range.

Adding emphasis to what friedajune said, consider these points. First, the large oven in a 36" range takes significantly longer to fully preheat than one in a 30" range. Second, it will dump more heat into your kitchen while operating, particularly in convection modes. Third, a 36" Thermador or Wolf range is much more expensive than 30" range. For example, scanning AJMadsion's listings, I see that 36" Thermador models cost from $1700 up to $2500 more than the 30" models. That does not count add-ins for the extra ventilation costs. Fourth, will you often need five or six burners going at once to make all that extra expense worth the inconvenient loss of counter and cabinet space? If the extra two burners would be only an occasional convenience, then it will be worthwhile to consider some much more flexible and much less expensive alternatives for those times when more burners might be used. For example, consider getting a 120v portable induction cooktop (PIC). Good 120v PICs can be had for less than $100, such as this one. Even a high-end PIC, such as the Vollrath Mirage Pro, costs only a fraction of the price difference between a 30" and a 36" range. Easily stored out of the way when you do not need it and can be placed for use elsewhere, too, which may be handy when the kitchen is crowded at holiday seasons. If your contractor is thinking you might want the 36" range with a griddle setup --- say, for pancakes and such -- consider instead a separate griddle. Separate ones will be significantly larger and easier to clean than the ones on 36" ranges, and can be stashed out of the way when not in use. For example, you could look at a non-stick electric griddle such as the Broil King (around $100 and highly recommended by Cooks Illustrated). The kitchen in my house is smaller than yours and I prefer a stove-top griddle that can sit on my gas stove under my range hood when I want to use a big griddle and stashes out of the way when I'm not using it. For that, I recommend looking at this stove top model by Demeyere (around $120). I've found it does an excellent job of straddling two gas burners without hotspots, It is very heat efficient (which mean less waste heat to deal with and maybe eases the burden on your OTR MW if your are keeping it. Plus, the polished steel of the Demeyere cleans up very easily even when doing messy things like burgers. So, lots of additional reasons to stick with the 30" range size. For venting over a pro-style range, I'm going to disagree a bit with friedajune on worrying about melting an OTR over a 30" pro-style range (unless your contractor hangs the OTR way, way too low.)
