Well, everything isn't quite on the same wall like that. The area under the microwave is actually slightly larger (1-2") than the area under the cabinets. The MW doesn't quite come down as low as I thought it might. Anyhow, I think we are going to go with the pattern that ccoombs1 laid out in earlier in this thread above the range and I think we'll put a couple 3x3 glass mosaics mid height to the left and right of the range (spaced every 2 or 3 tiles) and not put any special mosaic piece under the window. The range and a run of cabinets/countertop is on the left wall and the wall straight ahead is a window that takes up most of the wall (10' or so). I don't have any good pictures where I'm at now, but if anyone wants to see the area I can post. What do you think about the plan?

ngng - I did what you suggested and cut some tiles out of paper. Excellent idea! Thank you :) Bill - I think you might be right. I tried filling in the rectangle with 6x6's and 4x4's and the 4x4's won out. But the bigger field tiles seemed to work fine elsewhere. I know this looks like a 5 year old did it... but it did help me a lot! (And no... these are not my colors.. just used for layout purposes.) Thanks!

Luvspring I love your inspiration pix. And I must be one of the few who like either 4x4 or 6x6 tile layed on the diagnal. I am thinking of getting 6x6 Jeffrey Court (Chapter 12) in French Crema for my new backsplash. A granite showroom had these tiles display and the 6x6's were set on a diangal and I thought: "that's what I want" .... now hoping it will go with my granite (Delicatus Brown). If I go with these 6x6's I also want to, behind my sink, put a box with an arched top, filled in with 1x1 glass tile to blend with the French Crema. Also, around this box, the field tile would be the Jeffrey Court in their small 2x3 subway tiles in a brick pattern (all in the area above the sink). That's *my* dream backsplash and will be able to move forward when I get the granite installed (maybe a month out on this). Copper farm sink is *in the mail* or so they say. LOL. Sorry if I hijacked your thread ~ but I didn't want you to think you were the only one who likes the tiles set diagnally .... I want a sort of European flare to my kitchen and think this would give me the look I want, rather than straight set tiles. Good luck and let us know what you decide!!! jody

My personal opinion is that a 6x6 tile in an 18 inch backsplash doesn't sound like a great idea to but I've seen people do it so it must appeal to some. Also if its 6x6 (i.e perfectly square) does it really make a difference if its vertical or horizontal?
