Fun Christmas Gift Idea on Photobucket
Comments (18)Isn't this fun? That's how I got hooked on reverting photos to black and white or sepia, and then tinting them :D My photoshop has a lot of filters and gizmos....you can take a photo and turn it into an oil painting look. Something my daughter and son in law got me. There are a lot of free brushes out there to use in photoshop for adding visual effects, it's like having an ink stamp to add to the photo. Like adding clouds, or spiders and a web, or flowers. I took photos of my grandchildren, and added butterfly wings to each, and printed them out to a 4x6 size. Then I cut them out, and used glitter glue pens, and added some rhinestones here and there, and then made pixie jars, or fairy jars with them. Some were Christmas gifts last year, and the recipients LOVED them. There is a flicker candle in the lid, battery operated....See MoreWould love ideas from this creative bunch
Comments (74)I just had to find this thread to update you all. Our survey is done, and it went far better than expected because the man of the house managed to get himself thrown in jail the day before the surveyor came. We ended up going out 53 feet from the side of our garage toward their place, so pretty much cut their side yard in half. I called my township and county zoining offices and was told that snce we've done a legal survey we were free to go ahead and put a fence up right along the boundary line. We now have 23 3"x5"x8' treated wood posts dug down and cemented in along the boundary on their side. They're 8 feet apart and we've just started to put three horizontal rows of 1"x6" treated boards on it. We plan to put mesh fencing on it so we can have plants growing up it and keep the neighbors dog out of our yard. The wife and kids have moved out, so that problem has ended. We have a large bunch of lilac bushes we need to move from what used to be the boundary prior to the survey, and a neighbor has offered us as many as we want from his as well, so for economy sake I think those will be our privacy screen for now. As you can imagine, a 3 rail treated wood fence isn't cheap, so we need to economize a bit on the plants for now. With the fence being so far from our house, and the kids gone, it's not quite as desperate to shield our view. Their place is still ugly, but hopefully they will at least stay on their own side of the fence for now. I want to get some Rosa Rugosa's as suggested, and plan to put in a variety of trees and shrubs as well. As wisely pointed out by someone above, it we have variety, it will be more interesting looking and if something kills off one variety at least we won't lose it all. Thank you all for your words of wisdom. I love coming here with things of this nature as you all have such good ideas and creative minds. HUGS...See MoreCute ideas to Give Cash??
Comments (25)The past three years my nephews were all given money for Christmas. The first year, I glued a stack of 50 brand new crisp $1 bills together to create a book out of them, just like what was mention above. The second year, I did the 2-liter bottle thing. I pit a slit in the plastic, crumpled up the money loosley then applied a new, personalized label when the original label would be to cover up the slit I made. To make it more difficult for them to open the bottle, I glued the cap on. Because the money was loosely crumpled, it took them a bit of thinking before they found out how I got the money in there in the first place. Now that I think of it, I should have done some sort of origami folding of the money so they would have really been scratching their heads. I finished off the bottle with curling ribbon around the neck Last year, my mom rolled the money up in toilet paper (still on the roll of course) then wrapped it in various boxes from around the house (Mac n' cheese, pop tarts, etc.) This year, I plan to do something different; different than I've done in the past and different for each nephew (5 of them). In the past, since they all got the cash in the same way, once one of them opened the gift containing the money, the rest of them were not as surprised. I have to say that the money pad was by far the biggest hit. My son didn't want to spend which I was happy he was saving it but on the other hand he didn't want to put it in the bank either. Oh well, at least he didn't spend it foolishly, right. Lastly, if you are going to gift money, plan ahead so you can get brand new crisp bills. If the bank does not have any/enough, I'm sure if you ask them to "order" you some they will do it. New, crisp bills makes for a better gift! For this year I am for sure going to do the cold hard cash and the umbrella ideas....now I just need to find 3 more and I'll be set!...See MoreWas your Christmas or gift giving day a "hit"?
Comments (21)My favorite gift was a surprise - dh and I went to Ireland a few months ago. While there, I bought several pieces of pottery on the second day we were there, as well as woolen goods and a beautiful painting, plus some things for our kids. The pottery and painting were shipped home by the stores, but our extra suitcase was full of the sweaters, etc. So on one of our last days there, the B&B we were staying in had these gorgeous, unique teapots. When I mentioned them to the B&B owner, he told me they were from a pottery shop in town. We stopped there, and not only were they expensive, but I didn't have room to bring home with us and shipping wasn't worth it to me for the one thing. After we got home, I told dh I regretted not buying it b/c it was truly a unique and interesting piece of pottery (plus I drink a lot of tea!). At some point, dh called the shop owner and ordered one for me for Christmas! We only had one thing that was a dud of sorts. I'm pretty strict about electronics with my kids - seems that most of their friends own expensive electronics from an early age. Dd was 12 before she got an iPod Touch (whereas my younger sons' friends were getting them as early as age 7). So that was kinda the benchmark for my younger kids. So my next oldest was getting one this year for Christmas (he turns 12 next week). To keep this story relatively short, after much contemplation, we decided to give our 10 y/o one too, mainly b/c he had many personal obstacles this year (and always seems to) that my other kids have never had to deal with. As it turned out, my adult neighbor had one that she was no longer using and asked if we wanted it for free. She wiped everything off it, still had all the original packaging, etc. He wouldn't really know the difference. So he got it, was all excited, I had charged it ahead, etc. Well, I go to download some game apps that he picked out and nearly all of them wouldn't download and I was getting some sort of pop up about the software. So after googling it, I determined that the iPod was one of the earlier "generations" and that the software had been upgraded so much that most of the game apps will not run on the older ones! So I had to pretend something was wrong with it and told him we'd go out the next day and replace it. Fortunately, he had no clue what the deal was, but I felt like an idiot! So much for trying to save $200! THe old one will download some apps and can still be used for other things, but the most important thing, the games, was the one thing that he really wanted it for!...See MoreDLM2000-GW
