Mustang's sent me a package !!!

I was surprised when I had a slip for a package,

in my PO Box.

It was from Cathy. A box of Goodies.

There was:

A Bag of " Kiss my Grits " Old Fashioned , Stone Ground,

All Natural, Whole Grain Corn, Grits.

A Large Jar of Everglades Seasoning .

A jar of Raw and Unprocessed, Florida Honey.

A jar of Gator Hammock , " COOTER RUBB ".

Last but not least,A jar of Cathy's " Homemade Marmalade "

I opened it first thing and gave it a taste test.

There was something wrong, so I'll have to get a glass of milk and some Ritz Crackers.

If I can't figure out what it is, she may have to send another Jar ?

I'll sacrifice myself again, to be sure it is safe for others.

I told her not to send anything but she is stubborn.

That's OK, I'll get even.

I'll probably acquire a Southern Drawl after using all these goodies.

Cool surcie you have there from our good pal Cathy Lou. That Everglades stuff is great on pork or chicken on the grill. Enjoy it all buddy!

"kiss my grits" Wasn't that from show from the seventies...I can't recall it tonight but I do remember it. LOL!

Thanks Girls for the support.. I'd understand it totally if I was sending it to CA from WA..It can take forever, even Priority. I have a friend I send alot of stuff to in PA, and she always has it by day 3 but when I'd send a package to my Mom is CA, it would take atleast 2 more days beyond stuff to PA! Thanks for reassuring me that maybe they just aren't updating the "process" like UPS and FedEx do with each stop and scan.

Linda, I would pay for some of those truffles,, they look so good, and the Raspberry jam, chile pepper apron and towel, what a thoughtful gift! Terri, how smart to hide the truffles in the freezer, but can you actually forget they are there. I couldn't! You are so smart to make a candle in that cute litte canning jar. That's a great package!

Thanks, Debbie, for starting the recipe. I'll copy and paste your part to make it easier, but here's the rest added on to the end: Pumpkin Pie with Hazelnuts from "French Women Don't Get Fat" Piecrust: 2/3 c unsifted flour pinch of salt 1 TB sugar 6 TB chilled butter 1 1/2 TB ice cold water Filling: 1/3 cup ground hazelnuts 1/4 cup granulated brown sugar 2 TB softened butter 2 eggs, plus 1 egg yolk 1 cup unsweetened canned pumpkin puree (organic, natural preferred) 1 TB flour 2/3 cup granulated brown sugar 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup heavy cream 1. Put the flour, pinch of salt, and sugar in the bowl of a food processor and pulse to combine. 2. Cut the chilled butter into small pieces and add to the bowl. Also add the water and process for 15 seconds. If the dough is too dry, add more water by droplets. The dough should just hold together. Do not knead. 3. Wrap the dough in waxed paper and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight. 4. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out the pastry and fit it into a 9 inch pie plate, 2 inches deep. Prick the pastry with a fork all over the bottom. Line the pie plate with alumimum foil. Add pie weights or dried beans to weigh down the dough, and bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from the oven and discard foil and beans. 5. Increase the oven temperature to 450 degrees. Prepare the filling by combining hazelnuts, 1/4 cup granulated brown sugar, and butter. Work into a paste and spread with the back of a fork or a rubber spatula into the partially cooked pastry shell. Bake for 10 minutes. 6. Mix together the eggs, egg yolk, pumpkin puree, flour, 2/3 cup granulated brown sugar, spices, salt, and heavy cream. Pour into the pastry shell. Turn the oven temperature down to 325 degrees and bake the pie for 45 minutes. 7. Serve at room temperature or cold. Optional: Serve with unsweetened whipped cream ( 1 cup for the entire pie) on the side. The pie will keep a few days in the refrigerator. Always take out 15 minutes before serving. That's a neat gift and I know first hand that Cathy's marmelade is finger lickin' good! ENJOY!!

David- Here's some TV Triva:
That came from a show called 'Alice', the TV version of "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" and the line was said by Flo, her fellow waitress.
Funny, cuz it wasn't a show I really watched, but some words or phrases really do take root in our vernacular!

I went thru 1/2 of the Marmalade. Can't tell you how good it was,
because I don't want to change your Personality.

If I was to say it has the wonderfull Flavor and Aroma of
the Citrus Groves of Florida,
You may get over confident and not make it the same.

Lou, isn't our Cathy a mighty good friend and marmalade maker? I too love that Everglades Seasoning but of course mine has been looooong gone.

What a neat and thoughtful gift! Lou, of course you're going to aquire a Southern drawl with this package, cause you can't say "Kiss my grits" without a bit a twang.

Wasn't it Fannie Flagg that played Flo? I'm a big fan of her novels, and just picked up Fried Green Tomatoes from the Library. I saw the movie years ago, but haven't ever read the book. I decided her writing's good enough, and it's been so long since I've seen the movie, I'd enjoy reading the book. But I digress.

Have to try the " Everglades Seasoning " next.

I'm still sampling the Marmalade.

I used to watch that show too! It took place in Mel's Diner but it was Alice..Flo the redhead wasn't Fannie Flagg
it was Polly Holliday and Linda Lavin played Alice. And I got it from Wikipedia, cause I could picture her, but couldn't remember her name! :)

Lou did call me to say there was something wrong with the marmalade. Since I am a novice canner, I have been freaking about sending a bad canning project. I gave my brother bad marmalade from last year's batch so I don't think Lou is kidding.

However, we have consumed 5 jars of the 2009 batch which is what I sent Lou.

Very nice package, I remember Lou gave you some very nice goodies from your get-together. My Everglades stash is long gone too.

Lou, I just got your message, thanks for verifying that it is okay and you are okay! Peppi gave me a big a$$ canner last year when she and Sheshebop stayed here so I used that for this year's batch.
