fisher paykel iwl16 reassembly/spin cycle problem
Comments (2)Yes, you have the assembly order wrong. Disassemble all of it again. If you have any of those pieces UNDER the basket, pull the basket and retrieve it. Nothing goes on the shaft under the basket. Inside the basket, place the white "drive spline" (the piece with the metal base) atop the shaft opening, with the metal base down. Then place the green "driven spline" (which takes the anchor screws) atop the white piece. Secure it with the screws, just tight enough to be snug ... NOT excessively tight, as the pieces are plastic. The white driven spine should be free to jiggle a little inside. Those two pieces comprise the spin clutch. When the tub fills with water, air is caught beneath the basket and it floats upward about 3/8" to disengage from the drive spline (which is held down on the shaft by the agitator above it), allowing the basket to "free wheel" on the shaft while the agitator continues to be driven by the motor. When the water drains, the basket settles back down so the cogs atop the drive spline mesh with the cogs on the driven spline for driving the basket to spin. Of course, the agitator spins also. Set the basket into the tub atop the shaft. Place the agitator onto the shaft inside the basket. Tighten the wing nut to snug, again, not excessively tight....See MoreFisher&Paykel - WA42T26GW1 - not working properly
Comments (1)This is an EcoSmart model, newer than the GWL11 (and GWL15) that are usually discussed ... but otherwise the mechanics, operation, and diagnostics are largely identical. Some electrical test values may be different than GWL11 (but probably the same as GWL15), reference the tech sheet that should be inside the console. Erratic pump indicates a pump problem. It has thermal overheat protection. If under an undue load (bad bearings, jammed with debris, etc.), the thermal protection will trigger and shut down the pump ... then it'll run again (briefly) when it cools .... repeat. The entire machine won't go dead, just the pump. This can be confirmed by running the pump either by setting it directly to the final spin (with or without water in the tub) or running the pump in diagnostics. Did you *remove* the pump and check up in the tub outlet for debris? Check if strings/hair are wrapped around under the impeller? Manually spin the impeller to check for abnormal grinding or resistance to rotation?...See MoreFisher Paykel GWL11 diverter valve allways on - bad controller?
Comments (32)I decided to go ahead and replace the control board. I purchased the board from needapplianceparts.com (http://www.needapplianceparts.com/420094usp.aspx) because: 1) It was new and updated control board (old board was sd11 new said sd12) 2) Price competitive. 3) Answered my questions promptly before I purchased. 4) Included a safety fuse to protect the control board in case of a short in the water pump. They also shipped very quickly and I received it in two days. Installation was straight forward. I checked the components it said to in the instructions with my multimeter - mostly checking resistance of different items. Then took my time to make sure I didn't make any mistakes when disconnecting and connecting wires. Plugged it back in, set the washer size (per the instructions) and has been working great ever since! We have ran 6-10 loads in the last week since it has been repaired with no issues. We noticed the clothes are actually getting cleaner now! We think that the washer was randomly draining the water during the cleaning cycle and with it the soap! Washer would refill with more water to compensate, but this means we were washing at first with soap, then would basically as the cycle went on and more of the water was drained and refilled at the end we were probably more rinsing rather then washing. Not sure if this was the case or not, but it makes sense to me what what we were seeing the last couple of weeks. Based on my experience I would recommend fixing or replacing the washer right away rather then trying to limp it along. Once the control board starts going bad with one thing who knows what else it is doing wrong in the washing cycle! Thanks again to Dadoes for all the great help here!...See MoreMoldy Fisher-Paykel washer-anyone else have this problem?
Comments (28)9+ years on F&P Intuitive (same basic design as yours...just more options) and not a whiff of anything nasty or moldy to be found. I do NOT run exclusively cold, which I have always found to be a bad idea. Also, I do occasionally use LFS (depends on the items being washed). However, I wash colds on cold, items recommended for warm on warm, whites and cleaning rags on hot, etc. I also run the recommended cleaning cycle 4 times per year (every season), with one of them (once per year) being exclusively hot water and lots of vinegar (i.e. no detergent). This not only cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes, but also removes every last speck of detergent reside too. The tub looks like new afterwards! The washer has been great and cleans very well, but every machine requires maintenance of some kind. If you never take care of it you will pay the price afterwards (if it were topic-appropriate, I'd tell the story of someone I know who never bothered to do any maintenance of any kind on their car...big mistake!)....See Moredadoes
