Flight frustration

Why does it cost more to fly from Southern Ontario to Sault Ste Marie (500 miles), than it does to fly from Ontario to British Columbia? I would like to go and see my father, if I can. It's more than a 9 hour drive.

I know what you mean. I just looked and it costs hundreds of dollars more to fly from Seattle to Anchorage than from Seattle to ICELAND! For some reason, tickets to Iceland are ridiculously cheap right now if anyone is interested! :) 3 of my coworkers decided to go next month just for the heck of it because it was so cheap.

Ok, it's official. I have 23 votes: 20 "Split it" 1 "Leave it alone" 2 fence sitters. I'm taking those 2 fence sitters and putting them in the "Split it" group, and the deed is done. Here's the scoop: Robin splits at Lisa. NO CHANGES TO ANY PLAYERS BEFORE LISA. You will receive the current Robin as-is, and send it according to the instructions you received in your snail-mail. Lisa, I will send you some additional instructions, a second DC for Ginger, and we'll be good to go. Red Robin continues on current path, stopping at Kimberly. Kimberly, your DC will be changed to reflect returning the Robin to me. The Blue Robin will be sent directly to Ginger, and continue to the end: Me. Barbie, you will be put at the beginning of Round 2 (call it the end of Round 1 if you want), as well as in your usual spot within the Round, so you will NOT be missing a Round. Round 2 will also be a split Robin. I will make every effort to equal out the two Robins with number of seeds and/or seed varieties. In cases where there aren't duplicates to put in each Robin, I'll just go by style & color and/or annual, perennial, veggie/herb. I'll make a new map for Round 2. Nancy...GOT IT!!!! Thanks everybody for participating and hope you all got something you could use. Nancy thanks for your special additions, they will all get used, and as for everything else...it has either found a home in my supply closet or will be set aside for the next Craft Supply Robin. THANKS Nancy...and thanks eerybody else. I will be sending Janet another email...we'll see what happens....this is just a little frustrating since she was the last stop before the Robin comes home. vickinbobyo: "I have extremely soft water, I have done everything Bosch says to do with this $2K piece of you know what dishwasher. Use the tabs, don't use the tabs, use Cascade Complete, do not use Cascade Complete, use regular Cascade (try to find that). You are using to much, then they try to show me I am using too much detergent, by running this dishwasher with no soap. Guess what WRONG!! All my glasses are etched and I am pretty pissed off." We live in Portland, Oregon, which also has very, very soft water. We used to have a set of everyday use glass bowls, not fancy at all, that we washed several times a week, and we were using "supermarket" name-brand dishwashing detergents -- Cascade, Unilever Sunlight, Electrasol, etc. -- in our dishwasher (but no rinse aid, although not that is not especially relevant to the matter under discussion). Those bowls got pretty wasted by the process -- see the image attached. Once we learned a few years ago that the culprit causing our etching was probably the dishwashing detergent we switched to Ecover detergent (see link), powder only, not tablets, and Somat Rinse Aid. The etched bowls did not get better, but new (cheap) glassware that we washed repeatedly did not etch, either, and we started entrusting our not-so-cheap fine glassware and china -- tentatively, at first -- to the dishwasher, carefully monitoring the process. Fast forward to 2013, and we have a pair of crystal wine glasses that were part of the "flight" at a visit to a very toney winery (their 750 ml bottles sell for $250 and up) in the Dundee Hills subregion near here; we partake of a glass of wine from those two glasses every night, seven days a week, and wash the glasses in the dishwasher afterwards. We took that winery tour over Thanksgiving weekend in 2008, so I estimate that those glasses have been through the dishwasher somewhere between 2500 and 3000 times by now, and they look today exactly as they did when we were given them in the winery. How funny!!! I was so scared of my taurus when I got it!! It sat in its box for a few months. I was very new to glass at that time! When I did open it and started using it I could've kicked myself in the fannie!! It was so easy to use and I just love it!!! Im still waiting for a mosaic book that got shipped on Dec 13th and the site I got it from wont consider it LOST until after 30 days!!! It sucks waiting!!!

I think its because WestJet doesn't fly into the Soo. Last summer I wanted to fly from Edmonton to the Soo with Air Canada and it cost just under $1000.00 plus I still had to drive 3 hours to Wawa. I check WestJet for a flight from Edmonton to Thunder Bay and it was around $500.00 but then again a bus trip for 5 hours to get to Wawa, which was around $200.00 for a return bus ticket. I always said you can fly faster and cheaper to Europe from Canada than you can fly across Canada.
I really wish WestJet would fly into the Soo.

I just booked a flight from here (St. John's) to Halifax return for less than $200 taxes in - seat sale. If I wanted to fly to Gander return (less than a 4 hour drive) it would cost $534 plus taxes. Go figure

I know what you mean. We can fly across the country for what it takes to fly to California or jsut across the state.

Airline prices are all over the place! Depends on the hubs, popularity of the location, and time of year. Not to mention cost of fuel etc etc.

We just booked tickets to Florida. We live in Virginia and have to fly to NJ first, then to Florida. Makes no sense except that Newark is a hub for Continental.

In Oct we bought tickets from VA to CA for $189 each. We had to cancel the week before due to a death in the family. We tried to change the reservation and they wanted us to buy seats that were roughly $800 a piece, for the same seats 2 days later. NO THANKS!

Oh, my! I just read what Jennmonkey said about tickets to Iceland being cheap right now, so I searched, just for fun. Get this - I could go from Boston to Reykjavik next month for prices ranging from $726 to $7,118 round-trip. I have never seen a variation like that!

Airfares are based on supply, demand and competition. Sault Ste Marie has always been expensive, one of my corporate travel accounts has a customer there and they always pay thru the nose to go there. The people that work in the faring departments must be insane. Years ago we had a juge book called the Squires Tariff....that was the last time fares made any sense!
