Specific feature question for in-cabinet microwave
Comments (5)I don't know of any built in MW other than the Sharp drawer MW that will go into a 24" cabinet. Most need at least a 27" cabinet and then the trim kit provides the needed ventilation and finished look. And I don't know of any MW period (of any variety) that will allow you to adjust MW power settings while in use. As most available MW's simply cycle and off at varying intervals for the % of time rather than actually adjust the power output, they have to be programmed for that and then run, and not change in the middle. There are newer MW's with inverter technology on the market that do adjust the power wattage output of the magnatron instead of just the interval at which it's cycled at full power, but to my knowledge, you cannot change horses in mid stream with them either. I've been retired for a few years though and don't have direct experience with them, so if I'm wrong on that one, I'll happily be corrected....See MoreHow do I turn off the light on the front of my Sharp Microwave
Comments (20)Hi, I just bought a sharp R1881lsy and have the same bright light issue at night. In a motorhome, the light is to much. While travelling I couldn't wait for an order online for dim screen sheets. My quick fix was to go to a store like Walmart or Dollar tree and find large glasses for kids with plastic lenses preferably with blue tint. I found a pair under $2 that I could cut down to two covers per lense at 1.25"x2.25" each with tin snips. I marked out the measured sections with a fine tip Sharpee. Tape or add adhesive along the edges of the multiple layers of lense to find the dimness you like. Using glue on the lenses may bleed into the viewing area and is not recommended. Attached the finished lenses to the microwave with 3m vhb double sided tape. The tape is 1/2" wide so I took one length at 2 1/4" and cut it into two pieces, 1/4" wide was ideal. With one 1/4" strip above the display and the other below made for good mounting points. Attaching the lense to the microwave dimmed the display enough to make it work....See MoreHow important is a range hood?
Comments (21)I just went through all this in my kitchen remodel, and ended up installing a air make up unit. My wife had her heart set on a bluestar hood, with the 1200cfm fan, because her new kitchen is all white, she did not want any grease in her house or on her new cupboard's. Where I live did not enforce the laws, and are pretty lax in this department, but .... I I went ahead and built to what was going to be the best for years to come. The song and dance was, our home is all hot water heat. mua is provided 99% of the time via a forced air furnace linked to the hood fan in most newer homes......our area req. that anything over 400 cfm be linked to a means of air being returned into the home. In the area where I live the law did not req a mua system if you had hot water heat when our home was built. The solution was to install a stand alone mua system in our kitchen attic, the cost was staggering, and took a huge bite out of our budget....not to mention all the extra work. If it was me, I would suggest you make sure all the wiring, duct work, ect...ect...is in place for the future, cause it will cost much more to do later. This is one of those, " it's going to cost HOW much????" kinda things.....when you want to change it down the road. side note,...on high our friends next door can hear that fan in their living room....lol..........See MoreHow Important is Power Frequency?
Comments (2)"The voltage was 121-122, and the frequency was between 62 and 63 Hz." Fractionally higher should not cause a problem. Most electronics runs on DC anyway, and the first thing after stepping the voltage down it is rectified. Some supplies even rectify the line voltage and then use switching techniques to lower the voltage. A slightly lower frequency can be more of an issue than slightly higher (at lower frequency transformers can saturate). Be careful what UPS you use if you are trying to protect yourself from a generator's dips and power quality issues. Only an 'always online' UPS provides much protection. Most UPS units pass the power directly from the input to output (sometimes with some filtering) when the voltage is 'normal.' An 'on line' UPS always creates DC, then inverts the DC to create the output. They provide much better isolation, but of course cost more....See Morecat_mom
