Who's Snowed in this Evening?

Here in the Seattle Metro area, we certainly are. Predicting freezing temps and snow off and on thru Thanksgiving. Vehicular snow comedie/tragedie abounds.

I saw on our weather that Seattle was getting very cold temps. Is that normal for the area?

Are you enjoying being snowed in? I love it when we're prepared and have tons of groceries and firewood. We live on a country road and our road usually drifts over so we can't get out for a couple of days.

I'm not sure about Seattle... but a little further north they were snowed-in on parts of Vancouver Island, off the coast of BC, which is highly unusual! Record low temps too. I'm on the East Coast and we had our first storm of the season yesterday, it was a messy drive home. I think alot of people got caught not having had their winter tires installed yet. It's raining & warmer today so the snow will likely be gone by this evening. In recent years, we generally haven't had snow to 'stay' until almost Christmas-time.

Gee, Kat, why didn't you just shovel it all onto your grass? LOL! Should I stop making "helpful" suggestions! Shoveling it ANYWHERE is hard enough! Sorry to hear yours all landed in the Wrong Place! MANY years ago (back in the early 70's!) I lived in a little house in far south Aurora, and we got a storm like this last one, but even more snow and even more wind, and the way it happened to blow between the neighbor houses it ALL seemed to wind up RIGHT in front of our garage! It went all the way up to the roof, and if the snow had been hard enough we could have walked up the Snow Mountain and walked straight onto the roof! When we first went out after the storm and saw it, it was hard to really believe there was THAT much snow there! So I do know where you're coming from! It was kinda like: Could we possibly dig a tunnel thru it to drive the car out of the garage--rather than having to shovel it ALL!!! As near as I can tell I wound up with about 15" total. When I finally got out to measure it today I was getting 14", but the sun had been shining on it for quite a while at that point, and there was no question that it was well into the process of "settling down!" But one thing I know for sure; there is a LOT of moisture in it, and it really is gonna do a great job of watering everything. When I looked out the front door last nite about 12:30, trying to figure out just how hard it was still snowing, I noticed some flashing lites at the end of the block, and then I heard, Beep, Beep, Beep! It took a minute to figure out what was going on in the middle of the nite, but there was a city plow out there plowing the residential streets. When I looked more closely--over the shoveled pile along my walk, I discovered they had already plowed the road in front of my house! I thought that was kinda nice of Thornton--even if I don't need to go anywhere! And with the sun today now the plowed part is bare and dry again. Lots of piles, still, along the edges where people have shoveled their walks and drives--and shoveled out their cars that were parked on the street! By the end of the week we're supposed to be well back up into the 40's and maybe even back up to the low 50's so I'm guessing that even most of the piles will be gone by next weekend if they're in the sun! That's the kind of snowstorms EVERYBODY should have! Shhhhh! Don't tell anybody else about out Miraculous Disappearing Snowstorms or everybody will be moving here! We need to keep this to ourselves! Do any of you remember the March Blizzard of 2003? Funny story! I was working in San Fran at the time, and commuting back and forth, and the Blizzard happened when I was on the west coast. Being in the Airline Business, needless to say I was hearing plenty of stories about how bad it was and about all the flites that were being cancelled. The total (official) snowfall was just short of three feet (in about 24 hours I think it was), and when I had days off and was able to come home again it was on the third day after the storm, and I REALLY wanted to come home so I just made up my mind that I'd shovel my car out of the parking lot--no matter how long it took, and find some way to get home! I got back to DIA and onto the parking lot bus, determined that I was just gonna change into my Survival Clothes that I had in the car and start shoveling, and then we got to the parking lot! Except for the humongous--and I DO mean humongous, piles of snow where it had been plowed, all the cars and roads in the parking lot were DRY! I almost fell over! When I got out onto the two-lane road I took home (for those of you who don't know, DIA is out on the plains, halfway to Kansas!) the road was completely dry--and there were huge 6-8' piles of snow ALL along the road--I couldn't see over the top ANYWHERE! It was like being in a maze where all you could do was to keep going the way you were going! I felt like I was in an hallucination of something! Got back more into the Metro area and, except for the piles along the streets, you could hardly tell there had been a blizzard. I've lived out here since '64, and I KNOW how fast it melts, but even I could hardly believe what I was seeing that time! This IS the place to live! Skybird

Aunnie thanks for the kind words. i will admit i hate snow at the best of times and we don't need it in may. however, it went up to a balmy 46 today! - lol. yes, i will also admit we have great kids, no problems with the law, no drugs or drinking, infact ds dropped his long time girlfriend of 2 years because she started running with the wrong crowd. right now he is going out with a delightful young lady also of 2 years and is catholic as well and comes from a great family, so we are blessed. i hope you didn't think i was rude about you caring for your mom, but we are kindof the same age, -- i 49 and am home ALL the time, 24/7 with Al, and i have no help except for the kids (oh, everyone, his mother and sister came by for 15 minutes yesterday, to whine about something stupid, but they didn't get the answer they wanted so they left!) i keep busy by quilting and knitting, and mostly donate things i make for worthwhile charities, if i don't have crafts i don't know what i'd do, they are a God send to me. i wanted to tell you that i was worrying so much that i lost alot of weight, - i am 5 ft 10 and weighed 119 lbs, no good, with the paxil (or if you go and see your doctor he will put you on what he thinks is best for you), these pills have made me eat and very healthy i must admit (we never did eat fast food stuff) but now i weigh about 130 so alot better, i would also be up all night, believe me when i say there is nothing on tv at that time - lol , but i now can sleep almost all night. aren't prescriptions draining, we have a plan where you have to put out 100 percent and wait and wait for get 85 per cent back, and with bills of about 600.00 a month - oh don't get me going - lol, but atleast Al still has benefits from the college where he works (he has academic upgrading, math, english and a computer lab to help adults get their high school, so they can get into a college programme, it is very sad to see a man of 58 come in with a grade 7 or 8 education, but worthwhile when they finish the 3 year programme). anyways, aren't everyone just great here, as i said before, we will probably never meet, - except linda (glitter) and i, and i hope we still are linda! - lol, but see you are writing back, so that's really, really good because you can divert your mind on something else and you get to just chat with super nice folks! anyways i've rambled on and on to much, and my furry friend wants me to take him outie (too afraid to go out alone, he needs his momma!) so try and have a restful sleep! Gabby, i'm going to try that cyanne pepper, next time i have a being of amigrane, i did try the feverfew and it didn't work, al said it only gave me really bad breath! he tried grape seed extract, for pantom pains, i read a couple of articles, but they didn't work for him, but then again, everyone is different, but right now, i'm game for anything! thanks for the tip! debbie

We are south of Deptford; probably 5 minutes away from rt 42 & the AC expressway. Also in the same boat with a hubby that can't shovel; although he did try early yesterday; moved his pickup, pushed snow around and went back inside. My son & I did the driveway the night before; son did what he could before DirecTV had him work. I went out a few times during the day; son came home helped me shovel some more.. seemed like that was all we did yesterday. At one point we had the street cleaned really good; I'd dug out the sewer & hydrant; made a path for the water to drain; well last night about 9:30 the plow came & left a 3ft high wall in front of my driveway & plowed the sewer & hydrant back in. I almost ran after him I was so pissed. Son went out; told him to just dig out one car width so we could get out if need be; he shoveled the whole thing. Thankfully today they did not route him so he was here to help shovel everything again. We got the sewer & hydrant dug out again. I was shoveling around the house; trying to get snow away from where the basement is leaking; stuck my shovel in the snow and what did I see? A huge bunny sitting in there. He'd made himself a house in the 3ft high snow next to my steps. I'd heard we were getting more snow Saturday but I guess it's been changed to Monday. Lovely. The ground is so soaked we are going to have water problems :(

Stay safe! Hope it doesn't interfere with your Thanksgiving plans.

We were 74 degrees yesterday. Supposed to be 70 Thanksgiving day and about 30 degrees colder the next day! LOL Then back up to more seasonal temps by the weekend (50s - 60s).

Timing is everything. We leave for Seattle tomorrow. Rental car, then driving to Marblemount, North Cascades Nat'l Park. Send the dogs if I'm not back next week!!!

I have snow. Lost a 15 year old tree but we have lights, heat and water so I can't complain. Many people here are without electricity and it's been days. News vans are everywhere.

My news said the real problem was all the ice in Washington state. Be careful! It looked downright dangerous!

Why does this make me wish for the 103 degree temps we had this summer again? Or the 53+ days that we crossed the 90 degree mark? I know the snow is coming here someday too. ugh.

Were all tucked in here. School is out and hubs elected to telecommute. Roads are not the best. Glad I had time to stop by the store and finish most of the Thanksgiving shopping yesterday afternoon before the storm hit. Double grateful I was able to get DD2 to Dr's appointment and get her medication.

My Family is still in Florida. Just got off the phone with Mom, who was complaining about the heat. Too funny!

There is lots of snow, but the sun is shining. Its a beautiful day in my neighborhood! I am sure am glad I don't have to drive anywhere, though.

South of you in NW Oregon...we had snow last night and below freezing temps all day. Tonight it's supposed to be below 20!! We're at about 300 feet elevation and seldom get snow, but this time we got hit pretty good. My mom who lives at the beach got snow at her house!

We're travelling to the coast tomorrow evening, hope the roads aren't too icy.

North of pesky1, south of Covington in Olympia...brrr it's down to 15 now and so probably will be 10 or so before the night's over. Kind of unusual for the PNW, so we're pretty wimpy. The roads are skating rinks where it hasn't been cleared. Lots of hills and holiday traffic - a mess. But it's sunny, also a rare Nov. occurrence, so it's almost worth it.

We're really wimpy here too. Low temps (14 degrees) here too. Very unusual. I have faucets dripping and my wild birds fed to their quota. They know when a storm is brewing and they require three times the food. Our wood fire is burning to help out our regular heat source. (It's a miniature wood stove but it works!!)

Gold, I have a good friend who lives in CA and she told me this morning there was 7' of snow in certain areas. Wow! Do you have a FP in case you lose power?

I'm sitting here BEGGING for the cold front to come through. It's in the 70s, very humid, I'm in shorts sweating while I work around the house.

The front is supposed to come through about 10pm. Wind chill tomorrow in the teens. Bring.it.on. lol

Oops, I promised DH I'd bring in firewood for him. I better go do it before he comes home. Or maybe not. That's a man's job isn't it? ;)

Last night the outside temp read 12 when I went to bed. Today, its a balmy 27! Sun has been shining, so I'm a happy camper, although the troops are getting restless. Kids are finding friends with parents who have 4WD vehicles and are comfortable with the roads so they can get out of camp stuck-in-the-house.

Its supposed to warm up - a lot - tomorrow. We'll see.

Good luck to everyone traveling for the Holiday.

We had 15 guests in for the weekend. They left on sat and sun...ok they tried on sunday, nine returned after an hour of trying to leave, only to make it just a few blocks. Two were very proud of their trip to seattle...only to get stuck st the airport because anchorage was closed.

So we kept 8 of the 15 another night. I told them to call when they got home and that I wasn't changing the sheets until I heard back.

LOL Igloochick. Let it be known if you ever reconsider that B&B thing. I'll be one of your first customers.

My in-laws just moved from Sequim down to Tucson and man are they loving it, especially after hearing from us and their former neighbors about this latest storm.
