This is one of the generics for Topicort cream.

This one is manufactured by Clay-Park Labs, Inc.

I know they say generic brands are supposed be the same as the name brands, but I've found that untrue on occasion, and this is one of them. I have used Topicort (Dexosimetasone), Valisone (Betamethasone Valerate) or a generic for 29 years. What they do in three days has taken this stuff longer than three weeks. Plus, I keep breaking out more while using it. Huh??? That has never happened before. And it also does not stop or even slightly relieve the itching. It contains the same amount of active ingredient as Topicort, so I do not know what other ingredients might be different, but it doesn't work nearly as well as the others.

I know there are some insurances that won't pay for the name brand, but there is one generic I've used that does work as well as Topicort. I don't recall who makes it but where this tube is blue, that one is red.

Sure hope this helps you prevent wasting your hopes and money. I know how annoying and even painful excema can get sometimes.

Mallory, take it back to the pharmacy where you got it from and tell them that! There might even be an ingredient in it that you don't realize you are allergic to. DD has exema and has used Rex-Eme cream with good results and no perscription. If you are interested, email me and I will try to find the info for you to order it. About $8 a tube.

Tami, I looked it up and it sounds interesting.
That it's not a psuedosteroid is all the better.

Thanks you guys! BTW, he didn't develop excema until after we married......hmmm. With the economy he's laid off, and working with a friend who owns his own company occasionally to make extra money, and they like to go out for lunch at fast food joints. So, stress and diet are definitely a factor here. Thanks for the salve recipe, I'll try that. Gringo, I have some neem oil myself, as well as powder. I'll see how that helps. I'm also a fan of tea tree oil myself. I believe it to be a little safer than chlorine, which is already present in our water supply. But anyway. So, simplemary, why a solar infusion of the herbs and not in the oven? Do you get better results that way? I have everything you mentioned but the plantain, which if i do a little hunting out on my family's land, i bet i could find no problem. Broadleaf or narrow leaf plantain or does it matter? My myrrh is in little chunks, any idea on how to make it into a powder other than standard mortar and pestle? apollog, sounds good. Honey is antibacterial. I'll try adding that to the salve. Old leaves can look like crap. You have no idea what the plant may have been thru previously. What's important is how the new growth continues to look once those leaves mature. The older leaves on mine have the same look. Any new growth is going to look weak like that and it is perfectly normal. The plant may be a little sun stressed. The first thing I would do is to prune back all of the branches making a more compact and stronger plant. This will also rejuvenate the plant. Those branches are real thin and scraggley barely able to support their own weight. 30-45 qts at one time? I'm betting 90% goes right out the bottom. With that kind of mix, I don't believe that amount of water is necessary. I would water much more frequently and with much less water. Might want to put the plant somewhere it gets dappled sunlight, nothing full on for those amount of hours...at least until the plant is on track. There is lots of info out on the web on avocado growing. Don't mess with it now but I would look at using a different soil mix the next time around. Good luck and don't despair. I think the tree looks fine. It just needs some fine tuning.

It is funny. I haven’t checked this thread in several weeks and went today to search for it and there were new postings. Things are improving. I think the previous posters who mentioned that I am probably experiencing grief vs true depression are right. I still feel a sense of loss and miss the building adventure but it is definitely becoming more manageable as time goes on. I haven’t cried in a week whereas for a while there I was sobbing several hours a day. (I’m not typically such a bah bah) I haven’t taken any medication as I didn’t see this as being a long term problem and didn’t want to start something that might be hard to get off. In the short term reconnecting with old friends has really helped. I sent out emails and reestablished my friendships with friends who aren’t SAHM’s. We’ve had a lot of lunch and dinner dates and it has helped to satisfy my need for adult conversation with those whose lives don’t revolve around kids. And my DH finally agreed to take a dance class with me. That exercise and time together laughing was a great mood lifter. I’m thinking of taking another class this fall. I’m a terrible artist (designing a house was easier - its just a bunch of squares put together with a few angles for character - but my husband and kids are quite talented and they think an art class would be a good creative outlet for me so I’m considering that if I can get over my “mental block”. I guess my advice to anyone reading this post is to be aware of the potential for "post-build-em" depression. I worried beforehand that I would miss my project but never thought it would hit me as hard as it did. I think anyone who becomes passionately involved in their build has the possibility of that occurring but for those of us who aren’t working outside the home and live fairly quiet lives the risks are all the greater. In hindsight I think it would have been valuable to have something planned ahead of time to start once the house was completed. I initially thought I’d relax over the summer, spend quiet time with the kids, and get settled. Now I see that was too extreme of a shift in activities and my mind couldn’t switch gears like that. Smoothtalker - I see you’ve had a similar experience. Hope your new build goes smoothly. All I can say is wow - you make my home life seem pretty simple! I was actually thinking of checking into 4-H as my kids are aspiring “farmers”. I still miss the project management and stress of building but I know I will revisit that experience again someday either building new or remodeling, for resale or to keep as rentals, and next time I will be better prepared for the aftermath!! Teresa - I worry that you will someday be in the same boat. Going from talking to (or arguing!) with several people a day to just talking to family and the check out clerk is a hard transition to make. Being in a rural setting might make it even harder for you since you will probably stay at home more often. If I were you I would come up with plans now for something you could do to fill the void. Are you close to a town or city that might offer something? Are you near family and friends? If not, make some, although it looks like from your blog that you know several people or are they all construction workers? It is weird sometimes to think of all the shallow friendships that are formed during a build that disappear once the house is done. I look around my house at the trim, tile, framing, etc. and think what a great job these guys did, how nice they were to talk to and how their “art” is now part of my home and I will probably never see them again. That makes me sad. How nuts is that?? Oh well, tis the joy of home building. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to respond. It helped a lot to gab on here and also to know that there are complete strangers out there who are kind enough to take a few minutes to write words of encouragement or advice. This forum has been a great help both during and after the build.

Although I have never lived in one (and wouldn't want to), I have dealt with any number of HOA's in my capacity as a landscape designer. I have never encountered any issues with them signing off on my designs. Once they have the plan and plant list in hand, they can easily verify that nothing will exceed any height regulations or expand rampantly. I even had one with a 'must have lawn in the front garden' reg (ridiculous when the entry garden area is not much more than 150 square feet!) that agreed to its removal and replanting. I'd try it. Often when presented with a professional design plan, they cave :-) It is true that many HOA's have boards that consist of petty despots who like to throw their weight around to feel important and that some of the regs are arbitrary at best. My ex moved into one like that after we divorced and after butting heads a few times, got himself elected to the board and made the landscaping regulation changes he wanted and thought others would appreciate as well.

Here's the ingredients of your generic from Clay Park Labs and the name brand below. Some of those ingredients may be the same using different names,, ie Lanolin in the generic could be the same as wool alcohols since lanolin does come from sheep. It doesn look like the generic has a few more ingredients not shown on the name brand though?

PkGuy, you're a genius. Just like Tami said, there is an irritant in the Clay-Park brand. I'm allergic to mineral oil and can't use baby oil or bath oil products for that reason. Many who suffer from excema are allergic to oil.

Just spoke with Clay-Park Labs, which is now Perrigo Labs. They're calling my pharmacy to have it replaced for me. Thanx again both of you. I also suggested they remove that ingredient since everyone I ever met with excema are allergic to baby oil (mineral oil). She said she'll convey the message. Hope they do, but it sure won't be my problem any more.

I use, and have for years used a Desoximetasone cream. I call it my anti-itch medicine. I don't think I have excema but lymphedema and dry skin. I used to use Topicort when the insurance would pay for it but didn't notice any difference with the generic. However my Desoximetasone is made by Taro
Pharmaceuticals Inc. The tube looks the same except mine is white with red and black.

Tami, do you know if the Rex-Eme creme helps, at all, with psorisis? My SIL suffers with it and his prescription cremes burn him. He's looking for something to use so that he doesn't need as much of the prescription stuff.

I'm surprised to see lanolin which is a wool oil/alcohol from sheep in there as well. While it is a good moisturizer it is also an allergen for many people. I would have thought more people to be allergic to lanolin than mineral oil.

Guess you better not try this, Mallory. But, DD uses it, and her SO's niece had a really nasty patch on the inside of her elbow last summer that they used it on every day of the month she spent with them, and by the time she left, it was practically gone.

It was also recommended for DS's acne. I will try to find the brochure tomorrow, but I'm not sure I still have it. I do have a phone number for the person I purchased it from, so if you wanted to, you could call for info.

As I was reading, I thought it sounds great as a face cream, except for all that petroleum where I'm concerned LOL. Sounds really good for my daughter though. She's developed a case of acne in her old age of 30. Poor kid, his niece. Inside the elbows and behind the knees are the hot spots.
