Hi Sharon-- I used green glass tiles on my backsplash, and am very happy with them. I used Walker Zanger's Weave line in "Equator" in the 1"x6" size, and they were great to work with.

I know Artistic Tile's Opera Glass pretty well, and I think its high quality stuff. Do a search for a poster named cat_mom-- she used it for her backsplash and it is gorgeous. Other manufacturers who make great (but pricey) glass are AKDO, Crossville, Oceanside and Ann Sacks. Susan Jablon mosaics is a less expensive line that people have used here and it looks awesome. I don't know your granite that well, but if it highlights a color in it, I think it would be a great backsplash choice.

The one thing on glass tile-- make 100% sure you get an installer who is familiar with it. It needs a special blade on a wet saw for cutting it, and it is tricky to get the adhesive right so it looks clean when you see through the tile.

swoodbridge--we had no problems with our Opera Glass tiles (we used the Wolfgang White tile), beyond having it on backorder and waiting a little longer for it than we'd originally thought we would. It's exactly as callieandkarin said--make sure you use someone who knows what he/she is doing. Our tile guy was awesome. If you're in the NY area, shoot me an eamil and I'll give you his contact info. biondinomima (?) used him too and was very happy with him.

WOW... more backsplashes that are absolutely gorgeous and to confuse me more. Between these pics and the ones on the mini backsplash thread I definatley need more kitchens so I can choose more then one.

callieandkarin Your green backsplash is gorgeous! I will look at those other tile lines also - I drive my husband crazy even if I find something I like I have to look at everything else to be sure I like it the best!

cat_mom Thank you for the pictures of the install - your backsplash is so amazing. I'm glad to hear you didn't have any problems, aside from being out of stock, with artistic tile. I wish I could take you up on the offer of the tile guy but our new condo/loft is in Omaha. We won't be moving in until the end of February. Sharon

We got our installer's name from an Artistic Tile store in NJ. They have a list of installers who, while not affiliated with them, are ones that they will recommend. I'd ask them for a list of installers in your area if they one.

When I'd called the guy we ended up using, I had a good feeling about him just from our phone conversation, and again after we met him. While he'd been in the business for a long number of years, he'd only had his own business for the last 1 or 2 if I recall, and had only recently been added to Artistic's list of installers. We went with our gut, and couldn't be happier with him or his work. He was meticulous, a perfectionist, and respectful (and a really nice guy, too), which is exactly what you want.

Although I haven't installed any yet, I've gotten beautiful samples online from Modern Tile Studio. Their Glossy Glass line has subway size tile and is well-priced.
I'm thinking I want to ditch my countertop, first :)

Cat Mom, did you use Artistic Tile in Shrewsbury, near the Jersey shore (which I found on Google Maps) or a different location?
I just love your backsplash. In the pictures the tiles have a lot of very nice shimmer. Is that the glass alone, or are they painted in the back with some sort of glitteriness? Really beautiful. Was it your idea to have the tile going up and down, or is that how they promote/show it?

Cat_mom, we just bought the wolfgang white same tiles but a different size. Are there any other pics of the backsplash that are move in focus? it looks so nice, trying to guess what mine will look like, thanks

we are doing the white glass tile but horizontal behind the stove and these Bianco Carrara hexagons with random riverbed hexs. Any thoughts? I am not sure about the modern white glass with the hex?

The pot filler faucet is a Grohe. I'm not sure if they still sell this exact model/handle style (it matches our Ladylux Cafe Grohe faucet; both were purchased/installed in 2007). The finish is SS. I never remember which of their finishes is actual SS (I think there are two with steel in the name?), but you can call Grohe USA to find out.

Our tile guy used TEC Accucolor(?) Bright White grout; a mix of sanded and unsanded (I don't recall the ratio). AquaMix Gold sealer was used.

This was in 2007. If we were doing our backsplash today, we might use TEC XT (XT is more stain/crack resistant--we used it in our MB and hall bath), though ours is holding up beautifully. Right over the range vent (island height trim) is the only place that acquires stains, and requires scrubbing (from vented steam, grease from the oven). Since I started deflecting the vented steam away from the backsplash with a piece of foil (while using the oven), there's rarely anything to scrub.

(Our backsplash elsewhere seems to stay even cleaner. :))
