I have one word for this: Yuck.

Would you want a stranger warming up your bed? Haven't these people heard of heated mattress pads?? I suppose they're afraid a mattress pad would get stolen (valid fear), but still.....I'm really surprised that Holiday Inn is doing this.

Thanks everyone... it really doesn't look like anything I've seen. :\ There's always one major thing that doesn't fit. I threw out the worst affected plants, which left 3 plants. I VERY carefully removed every leaf that showed even a teeny inkling of "the ick" 48 hours later there are no signs of "ick" on any leaves, and the plants are putting out healthy looking leaves all along their bare stems. Let's hope!

Okay... am I the only one that thinks the kitchen looks good, with pickled oak cabinets and all? It really doesn't look that dated to me, with the exception of the light box over the island. In my previous kitchen we had honey stained oak cabinets that screamed 1980's and we paid someone to come in and paint them. The people we bought the house from kept the place filthy so we had to do a major degreasing treatment on the cabinets to get the new paint to stick. It really did look good. We had the painted cabinets for seven years and by the end there were plenty of chips and I would not call it the most durable solution (this is with one sweet demure little girl and one wild little boy). We had used oil paint on them, so perhaps a latex wouldn't chip as much?? I don't know. The oil paint was thick enough that the grain didn't really show up much. If it were me (and it is clearly not, so take it for what it is worth)... I would put my money into removing ceiling light box and perhaps a little work on the cabinetry on the fridge side. The cabinets above the ovens and the fridge being just 12" depth is not ideal, and fridge sticking so far out into the space is calling more than a little bit of attention to itself with the stainless front and black sides and top of fridge just inches above top of oven cabinetry. I would possibly put some money into this and live with the cabinets for a while. Sorry if this offends, just being honest as I see it and trying to help. I think your kitchen is really pretty and I bet with nice window treatments and bar stools, it will be a dream.

I thought it strange, too. Found this explanation at the linked message board. Since I say "valay", I guess I'm of the lower class...lol. "Found this online. Sounds like both are used. I remember watching "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and Marilyn Monroe saying valet with the "T" sound "The word is an English one and is correctly pronounced "Vall - ett", although mispronunciation as "Val-ay" is common." according to http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=valet , "[Middle English valette, from Old French vaslet, valet, servant, squire, from Vulgar Latin *vassellitus, diminutive of *vassus, vassal. See vassal.]" So which is right? I have always pronounced it "Val-ay" as well as everyone around me. I know people who have been corrected from saying it "Vall-ett" Also, the dictionary.com pronunciation includes both "Vall-ett" and "Val-ay". Yet another regional difference? I am going to delete that line for now, unless someone has something contrary to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language. Yuck! I think I have drain worms and flies! Please help!!!!!!

Here is a short video I made about drain worms in my shower because I realised that there was very little about them on the web. Hope it helps you beat these little nasties. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=px_f0JbwIrU&list=UU4bKk4PGekB_Wzqg5I1v8QA&index=1&feature=plcp (see the link below) In short, the Drain Worms hatch from the eggs laid by the Drain Fly in a layer of scum just above the water level in the pipe. So the worms you kill today will just be replaced by more hatchlings in the following days. The worms grow up to be Drain Flies and then they lay more eggs. You've got three choices to break the life cycle: 1. Kill the flies, 2. Block the flies from reaching the scum by keeping the drain plugged or covered when not in use, 3. Open the grate so you can thoroughly clean the scum away. They do not live in the grout. That just happens to be where most people see them. They travel from the drain out towards the grout as they make a hasty escape. And by the way, they are not black. Check out the video for a closer look. Creepy!! Kind of funny too Holiday Inn said the warmer would be fully dressed and leave the bed before the guest occupied it. Let's hope so! lol I guess the guest is waiting there in their pajamas???

Prostitution is legal in Great Britain.

I have the feeling that this is the way the Holiday Inns can advertise it. Advertising for prostitution is illegal and so is running a brothel. This way they can skirt the law and let guest know a "bed warmer" is available.

Otherwise the idea of a hotel providing a human to warm beds is utterly stupid. It has to be a cover for something else. In some countries you can request a "personal maid" who stays overnight in the room in case you need anything done.

I don't want a staff member in my private room while I'm getting ready for bed. As a matter of fact, I find turn-down service intrusive! It startles me when there's a knock on the door in the evening and someone offers to turn down the bed and close the draperies, quite erie!

Blech! Icky - your sheets are supposed to be nice and clean in a hotel/motel room, why would you want a stranger in them first? Unless it's like what dilly_dally said...

A post on the Home Organization forum linked to a site about bed bugs, where I read this about the human bed warmers:

From another perspective, itÂs also exactly like having people who have been in lots of other hotel guestsÂ rooms and beds Â just moments before Â get in your bed, right before you do.

It seems like this might speed up the spread of bed bugs, which are often present in some rooms at even the finest hotels. Bed bugs can come into any hotel room with travelers, and now they have yet another way to circulate from room to room.

I am too grossed out to stay at motels or hotels. I used to be fine with it, but not any more. We stayed at a nice B&B for our anniversary a couple years ago and I could not stand to get into bed, I stayed on top of the covers and barely slept. They sell bedsacks for squeamish people like me, so when we have to stay at a hotel again, we're lugging those along.

I think Dilly may be on to something.

My personal take is that this is the first ad in a quirky ad campaign they came up with and an announcement will be made in a day or so that it was just a way to get the Holiday Inn name out there.
