Well, I just finished off

the last of the deli ham I vacuumed with the Handi Vac on Jan 4th and it was as good as the day I bought it. I usually have to toss it after 3 or 4 days. Just open, grab the slices I want and re-seal.

The brocolli and cauliflower florettes I sealed on the 4th, and pick at every day, are still good too.

I'm thrilled!

Opening a faucet to relieve the pressure seems like overkill. The size of a possible flood, with the well pump off, is less than you could have if a leak developed on a normal day, when the well pump is on and you're out of the house from morning to night. That's assuming you've got a normal pressure tank, not something unusual like a big tank sitting on your roof. If you've got an "instant hot" water dispenser, unplug that too. One more thing: If your well is in a well pit, and the sump pump is fed by the same circuit as the well pump, then don't shut it off, or water might rise in the pit and seep into the well head. In that case, just close the main shutoff valve.

What type of valve? Did the valve handle fail or did the end of the valve stem break off? Is there enough valve stem to operate the shut-off with a pair of pliers? A picture or two might help.

Tinan, we did the radiator cover in our recent DIY bathroom, and unfortunately, now need to do it in every room because they look so much better. gsciencechick we have a couple. A Rigid, not my favorite but excellent for sanding drywall with good dust collection, a B&D Mouse, great for tight places, and an old Milwaukee that my dad gave me. When that goes I'll buy a Bosch or Porter Cable. Thanks for the compliments, it feels great because it was a lot of work. We had a pro replace the ceiling and do some drywall repair, that is one task where I'll hire a pro every time. Our guy is so meticulous he had barely any sanding to do, unlike when I tackle drywall.

I can see why you'd want to show that beauty off! I'd give anything for a floor to ceiling window like that! How deep is the wood ledge? Hard to tell, but would it be large enough to have a pillow/bench made? Do you plan to display anything there? Since the space is not furnished (or furnishings are not in sight) it's hard to tell you what window dressings would work best for you other than to suggest a shade that would allow you to block the view from your dogs. Since you need to block the view, I'd do a plantation shutter on only the bottom half, leaving the top half open to expose the beauty of the windows, all with the option of leaving the bottoms open or closed. Or, a fabric roman with 'top-down bottom-up' functionality in a soft, classic pattern that matches your decor. Shutter option: (not the window style you have, but just to get a sense) Roman option:

I know/knew what you meant, as I have one too and love it. I am amazed at how it extends the life of things. It really extended the life of a partial head of lettuce that would have gone by otherwise. I kept my marshmallows fresh and loose when otherwise they go stale b4 I even get them opened the first time.

I've bought bags of boneless skinless chicken breasts and then vacuum packed a few to a bag for freezing. The same with a whole pork loin. No more frost or freezer burn.

I vacuum pack so many things and it is so easy to vacuum pack them again after opening and using whatever is needed.

I slip the opened bag of shredded cheese into a vacuum bag, seal it, and have no concern about it getting moldy b4 I get it gone.

It's the handiest thing....

The link recommends that once the bag is empty not to reuse them. Can the bags be reused?

hmmm...it does say that:
"Can I reuse ReynoldsÂ® Handi-VacÂ Vacuum Freezer Bags?
Reynolds Handi-Vac Vacuum Freezer Bags are not recommended for reuse. Do not place new foods in a bag once it is used. If juices or bits of food are trapped inside the Textured Layer, the bag can not be cleaned for reuse. For food safety reasons, discard Bags once all original contents are removed.

I reuse mine.
I leave the marshmallows in the original bag and just cut the end off of the bag, or puncture a hole in it to relieve the air out of it (the marshmallow) bag.
I leave the shredded cheese in its own original bag too, with the end open b4 vacuuming.
I have one just for a partial onion...I put some wrap around the onion b4 slipping it into the bag. The onion never touches the bag, so I just throw it into the freezer for the next onion.

etc, etc, etc. Crackers, chips, almost everything, left in the original packaging b4 being placed in the vacuum bag.

I imagine they said that to protect themselves against people maybe reusing meat bags, or trying to wash them and reuse them.

Any of them I reuse do not have any bits of anything left in them as no food actually touched the inside surface.

NM, I bought one about 1/2 hour ago. Vacuumed up some coffee beans, cheese, and an onion. Easier than the machine I bought. (so far).
