I've seen others, but this one was new to me. So sweet to see them playful together.

Oh yes..that attractive chain link fence...what an eyesore! We've had it about 5 years now & I know even with beautiful landscaping that will remain a problem..we never thought of it when we got it..we were just thinking of the dogs (of course after we had it put in I saw it a vinyl coated green which blends into the greenery..not as abrasive as the silver one we have)...Since our PA soil is so rocky & hard to dig into I was thinking of a few large clay pots strategically placed around the inside edge of the fence & planting a variety of annuals & since the fence is 6 feet high I thought maybe a few window boxes here & there between the clay pots...I'll just have to improvise & distract the eye away from the fence! I checked out the local nursery yesterday & saw the pea gravel..I also checked out their stepping stones & other slabs that have a great look but they coat about $8.00-$10.00 a piece! I'll continue to look around...maybe molds would be better.. Well thanks for all your input...I just have to get up a plan & wait for the weather to warm up..Have a nice day!

A great many (in fact, most) plants are toxic to pets and humans if they eat them but most pets would rather eat their own food than plants. Adult dogs will leave plants alone and if you train puppies to not chew plants, you should be able to eliminate that factor completely. FWIW, there is a huge population of dog-owning gardeners who don't think twice about what plants to include in their gardens because they have trained their pets to stay away from them. Same thing with small kids. Avoiding deer is another issue and that should be the determining factor on what you choose to include.

We purchased two part mini poodles late last spring from our humane society. Poor little things had been brought in at 3 years of age, they were severely underweight, had never been groomed or had seen a vet, weren't toilet trained, or trained in any way for that matter. Very scared trembling creatures. The humane society had a volunteer groomer who tried her best, they neutered them and gave them the rabies shot. We immediately took them to our vet for a thorough checkup and the rest of their immunizations etc. We worked with a trainer and clicker trained them, fed them properly and had them groomed properly. They are happy and much better nourished now, if anything we overdid that part. You sure wouldn't recognize them now. They have turned out to be very sweet lovable pooches. They also didn't even know how to play, they do now!

once heard a speech at hosta college between the difference between urban and rural deer ... urban deer.. when hungry.. will eat just about anything ... especially under stress ... rural deer ... as babs notes.. have a lot of production crop to feed on during a big part of the season .. out here.. most damage.. comes in really bad winters ... after that speech i noticed the same effect with rabbits ... in suburbia.. with lawn warrior grass being pervasive.. rabbits go after your garden ... but out here with a former horse pasture that i call a lawn ... the rabbits browse the pasture buffet ... clover.. yarrow.. plantain ... rarely do they bother my gardens ... dont get caught up in your Disney/bambi world ... vermin are vermin ... no matter how cute and fuzzy they are ... and no matter how big they are ... if those two drop a youngin.. then next year you have 4 ... then 8 .. then etc ... if the golden is trained to the property.. let him chase them off next time ...no way he will ever catch them ... but they will get the idea he doesnt want them there ... enjoy looking at them.. on someone elses property .. lol ... ken

Nice video.

Obviously, the deer and dog were pets as one scene showed the deer being fed from a hand. As it is, this deer likely could not survive in the wild becasue it does not have enough fear of things that would be harmful to it, and it may not have learned to forage. However, I am amazed at how well the dog accepted his unusal playmate.

Loved your video. I started thinking...normally a deer and a dog would not get along, more than likely enemies. If they can learn to get along with the little intelligience compared to mankind, why can't we who are superior intellectually. Go figure.

Precious.. which blows my mind how anyone can shoot deer, sometimes missing and letting them die painful deaths. Would they shoot their dog? This deer was very dog like in his sweetness and playfulness and curiosity.

That is just lovely--not only the precious animals, but the setting is idyllic. I must say that as much as I enjoy my computer, email and the world it has opened up to me, I have enjoyed the animal videos most of all.
