Clearance on sides of refrigerator
Comments (9)The side space is not a matter of airflow, it's a matter of allowing the door to open sufficiently, taking into account the function of its hinge and the depth of the handle, etc. To the OP, Samsung should have a dimensions guide online for your fridge, and it will tell you how much space you need. I've been told that most just need enough space to slide in there, but need air space at the back. Our KA CD FD fridge (like Tim's but not Pro-Style) only required 1/8 or 1/4 inch on each side. I would go for the filler strips -- I'm sure you can make it look seamless....See MoreNeed more clearance between wall ovens and refrigerator
Comments (2)Its an L shape. It's tight but from the corner of the L we have 19 inches of counter, then wall ovens, then fridge then wall that is 28 inches in depth. So fridge needs to be out a few inches from the wall to clear the little bit that sticks out and then I would like a few inches to stay clear of oven doors. I definitely don't mind the ovens because I would use them the least but wondered if it was bringing more traffic into a tighter space. If ovens are on the end then the island directly behind me would be the landing space for hot stuff. I don't know if that would bother me as I have always had counter right next to my oven and not had to turn....See MoreRefrigerator cabinet clearance to minimize gap?
Comments (20)andrewrxxx.... They are showing the height to top of hinge for 2 reasons. 1) so the cabinet above doesn't touch them if deep enough to. & 2) Even if your cabinet isn't deep enough to touch the hinges, you still need to open the doors and they will touch if you are shorter than the 69 7/8". If I was your designer I would be advising working with a minimum of 70 1/2" opening based on the specs you're showing. This will allow for proper venting and wiggle room and really is not a large gap as you think it may look. Also, is your fridge going against a wall on one side, left or right? If so, the specs are also showing the distance you need to be away from the wall in order to pull out crisper drawers. You will need to pull the drawers out completely in order to clean. When it comes to the depth, your fridge upper cabinet is typically "pulled" off the wall and your fridge panels are cut to a depth of 25", 25 1/2", 26", etc., to accommodate the depth needed. "...Should I order the fridge cabinet and adjacent pantry to be 25", or 25 1/2"... Unless you're using a completely custom manufacturer, you will probably pay a premium for a standard supplier to customize these, if they even offer it. You're better to pull the pantry and fridge upper off the same amount and cut deep tall panels to cover that depth. I usually recommend my clients pull cabinetry off the wall the thickness of something standard. A 2x4, 2 layers of 3/4" thick material, or, etc. so you can screw into them and steady the cabinet as well....See MoreGap between refrigerator and cabinets
Comments (7)DH is very handy,. He made a filler of the same cabinet wood, and put hinges on it. I store my large serving trays and platters on the top of the fridge and with the filler flipped down you can't see them at all. When I need one, I flip it up for access. The gap was a little shorter than 6", but still gives me space for those things....See Morewritersblock (9b/10a)
