New products you simply couldn't live without now?

A few years back, I fell on ice and shattered an ankle. That thing took almost a year to heal.

Last year, Scott (boss) went out and bought me a pair of those cleats that go on the bottom of your shoes. Those things have saved my rear-end soooo many times in the past two winters. I never take them off my shoes.

If I were a millionaire, I'd buy a pair for everyone I know that lives in winter climates.

I have a pair of them too angelaid, and bought my mom a pair. Are your called Trax? You have to be careful if you walk on a tile floor with them on though. It's easy to slip.

Hi Lynn, I went to Camp Cuyamaca in 6th Grade, I still remember the Camp Song (YEA,YEA,YEA,YEA CUYAMACA ;-) Yes, Oregon Clay and yes, it loosens it real well, check out my video link below. BTW.. Also ..Yes , I use Decomposed granite for breaking up the Clay as well as for providing Micro-nutrients to the Beneficial herd. Decomposed granite is a rock powder and is an excellent amendment for clay soils. All rock powders are great sources of minerals and micronutrients. All growing soils need them. As the microbes and macrobes like earthworms, digest the insoluble minerals, they break down into the various soluble micronutrients that all forms of plants need. For example, limestone rocks are rich in calcium. Granite rocks are rich in potassium, etc. Seaweeds of course are the king of micronutrient fertilizers and soil amendments. There can be up to 70+ trace elements in seaweed. In locations where seaweed is not readily available; rock powders is one answer to the problem. Research continues to reveal that insoluble tiny particles like rock powder minerals, can be easily digested or absorbed via microbial activity, over time, into the anatomy of growing plants, thriving in the presence of rich organic compost, and other forms of powerful biostimulants like aerobic compost teas. Obviously a heavy clay soil is very difficult to initially dig, whereas a sandy loam is much easier. Heavy clay soils can be improved considerably by adding a lot of sawdust and mason's sand. DO NOT use beach or river sand! Mason's sand, being crushed granite, has sharp edges and actually loosens the soil. Here is a link that might be useful: Jon's Wonderful Soil 2010

Surprised no one has mentioned, but even in SoCal, I love my Warm Floors in the bathroom under the travertine - could be my favorite thing! During the winter, I wanted to lie down on my bathroom floor. Glad I held out for an outside spiral staircase to the upstairs deck, two-sided office desk, pot filler, upstairs laundry, pool bath, undercounter micro drawer, trash compactor (everyone tried to talk me out of that & said they were passe'), recycling bin, fixed & handheld shower (overhead shower was a bit of a waste...), doggie door hidden under kitchen desk - people think she's magic when she appears :), pull-out shelves for printers, etc in office & grommets for wires & got rid of most of the clutter, LOVE the light system & setting up scenes - esp. our 'night track' button that saves me turning on & off 6 banks of lights just to get down to the kitchen at night, my daughter's 'all-off' button that blinks until she turns all the lights off @ night Bain-Ultra air bath - no more gross jacuzzi jets shooting out gunk! Wish I had closet lights that come on when doors are opened, had organized the pantry lay-out a little better, figured out drawers/pull-outs for wrapping paper better, looked more closely at cabinet depths - can't fit a whole lot in, perhaps put an elevator in - was $10K in the beginning & just heard a woman is paying $70K to retrofit her house for one. I need the exercise now, but who knows what the future will hold... not a whole lot more than that though - we thought it out pretty throughly. STUPIDEST purchase ever - the Aquatics laundry air sink - basically a jacuzzi for my underwear that you can't even use soap in as it bubbles over & makes a mess. You can do a better job swishing your hand around in the sink a couple of times. Whatever possessed me to get this, I don't know... Almost Done!!

-Prep sink. This may be useful in a multi-cook household or a huge kitchen, but I hardly ever used the one I had and it was just once more thing to clean. -Garbage disposal. My worms do a much better job, don't take up electricity and never smell or require cleaning. -Fancy multi-function toaster, oven, rotisserie, pizza, etc. Does nothing well. -Trash can with a motion sensor. Everyone I know who has one has them break in under a year. Mine only took 4 months to break. A foot pedal is much more reliable and a lot cheaper to replace. -Stainless steel sink. What a pain to clean. You can call it patina, butafter a while they don't look clean no matter what you do. (The one in my apartment right now looks positively foul no matter how much Barkeeper's Friend you use.) Of course cast iron will eventually chip and I don't know if the granite composite sinks will stand the test of time -Range-top grill. Only pay for these if you have a bodacious vent system and no way to have an outdoor grill. They are better than the George Foreman-like grills but not a patch on a decent outdoor gas grill or charcoal. ---- As for sink tip-outs... since discovering them I have knocked the front panel off every sink in every home I've rented or owned and installed these. In the bathroom they are perfect for the tweezers and nail files and such. In the kitchen, the sponges, scrubbers, stoppers and the toothbrush you use for cleaning around the faucet plate are neatly hidden away but close at hand. Love 'em!

Katya, my solution to your problem is to buy so many roses that there's always an inventory of "similar" to fill in the gap until the beloved becomes available. Of course, along the line one discovers yet more "beloveds" and so it goes. This is precisely the dilemma keeping me up these nights. Where to put what and to what effect? It's like accessorizing an outfit: different jewelry or shoes completely change the look and even function of an ensemble... and that's exactly what a garden is, an ensemble. One rose can change the entire palette and feel, and while many "look" similar, their habits may differ wildly. In the end, I'm currently trying to use what I have and resist adding new for a while. It's very hard to resist new roses as evidenced by this post and others. It's taking all my willpower not to email Peter at FreedomGardens to see if he still has 'Summer Wine'.

Swiffer sweeper! I love it now that I have hardwood floors, they pick up everything the broom leaves behind! Also my steam mop!!

There was a local news story here this week. A guy fell off a bridge, spent the night on the ground with (I believe) broken back plus other things. They had to rescue him from this drop and we have had ALOT of ice. Police, rescue workers and fire fighters had a terrible time getting him with the ice. So now there is a big push for donations for Yaktrax...plus Yaktrax is donating one for every one that is bought!

I will 2nd the Swiffer...although I don't like the Swiffer wet, but that is just me.

I love my Swiffer WetJet. Use it on my kitchen floor almost every morning-it was installed four years ago, still looks brand-new.

Hubby just informed me he couldn't go back to a bagged vacuum cleaner. He loves the bagless. Me, I love our breadmaker. I know they're not a "new" gadget, but they're relatively new to me.

How new is 'new'? I love my central vacuum cleaner. Use the microwave many times a day. Enjoy Nu-Heat under the bathroom floor. Like instant hot water at every tap(circulator pump). Front-load washer and Dishdrawers are great. Liquid soap. (I had no idea I'd spent a lifetime scrubbing away bar soap scum, not 'dirt'.) Gosh, I'm old enough to appreciate frozen vegetables.

I have two different pair but never wore them I didn't have them when we had our ice storm in 2000 but got them later. so far haven't had that kind of ice

I hate that they are made in China, and they aren't new...but Crocs. The only shoes I wear.

I like the new (to me) Pomegranite Lemonade by Minute Maid. I drink a ton of the stuff, mainly because I like it...not because it is good for you, which I am sure it isn't, since it is made with high fructose corn syrup.

The remote starter(& door lock/unlock) in my car.
On a cold or rainy day, it's great to start the car from inside a store, and then come out to a warm car.

I couldn't live without a computer and digital camera. Can't remember what life was like before I owned either. I think my house was cleaner..........

I think I would LOVE shamwows but our walmart doesn't have them....and never think to look elsewhere....also I want the trax for shoes...I busted it 2 times on ice in Muskogee this winter....grrrrrr....Stacy

I love my little KitchenAide food processor. It's a three cupper, and just the right size for me. I took it to the church kitchen once; a friend said she was going to hint for one for Christmas. She called and said she got one. Mine is red, and so darned cute, besides being practical.

Yup, LOVE those yaktrax. If you don't have any yet, make sure you get the ones with the strap for across the top of the shoe. I lost one once. Now, I tie it up with an old shoe string.
