Go CLONES! Basketball has been so fun, after a not-so-fun football season. I am really excited about the football hires though - especially Mark Mangino.

I have a certain feeling for Ames and Iowa State: Sue went there, for a couple of years, then transferred to Cornell.

Her guidance people asked why would she want to transfer to a one-horse university in small-town Iowa ... and when they found that it was the Cornell in N Y State, they were smewhat displeased.

She had her eye on getting into a hospital in the East, and felt that the Cornell credential would be better recognized.

Back in the late '50s, those two schools agreed on which were the top two schools in the nation in that field ... but there was some disagreement between them as to which was number one.

Then ... she met me ...
There was some talk of us getting married when I was leaving Cornell to return to Korea ... but I said that, suppose our family circumstances were such that she had to become breadwinner for the family in ten years or so, that three years toward a four-year degree would be about as good as niothing. So she stayed the extra year to grad.

and travelled to Korea to get married - son was born there.

What are the graduation stats for athletes? While college sports are fun, provide scholarships, and raise a lot of money, some schools graduate well-educated athletes, and some...not so much.

Our women's basketball has a 100% graduation rate. I will have to check on the men, I know it is not 100% because the really good players sometimes go to the NFL before they graduate.

That's a great graduation rate, Linda. I honestly don't know how some athletes DO it all. DH attended a series of programs for alums on the football training program at Northwestern and was amazed at the hours expected of the team members. When do they study? LOL Yet, some of the young men have four-point averages in *serious* courses like engineering. It's a great opportunity to get a valuable degree if you can handle it all.

Both the men and women lost yesterday. You can't be undefeated the entire season.

Linda, I am an avid Kansas University fan, so it will be fun to watch both teams in basketball. I hope we can get it together very soon...we have mostly all Freshmen so it is a "building year".

From someone who did not want Mangino to leave KU, I am glad he is getting back coaching. He did wonders for KU when he was there and now the program has gone to pot!....just some "whiny" kid that did not like the way he talked to him....as if he had not heard that from a coach before.....so I, for one, wish him well~~

Tonight should be a good game. Kids are going to get in line after lunch at Hilton so they can get a good seat. Last year it wasn't pretty. Some bad calls, but the fans got really nasty. Hate to see that.

DeAndre Kane is up in the air for tonight - they are going to make a game time decision if he plays. Hoiberg said there is a lot of season left - hate to play him injured now.

That Hilton Magic should be in full force tonight! Today was the first day for students to be back in class. Full House!

All men's games are sold out for the season, so I will be watching on TV tonight. My friend who died in Dec. who I went to men's games with, her DH is home now and his kids are helping him. I saw him yesteday and offered to take him to games when his kids are not available. That sounded good to him and to his DD.

Linda...YES Phoggie, as in Phog Allen! Actually, it is the name of my DS's dog. I really enjoyed watching the game last night on TV..sorry for your loss, but we didn't do badly with our young team. I am afraid we will lose some of them to pro...it seems every year we have some great Freshmen, they leave...guess money talks! I love BB, so will follow more of your team...good luck and maybe we will meet again :-)
