I'm not a Facebook member but I think this would be a big turn off for Facebook users since it seems like so many of them enjoy 'stalking' people. By that I mean looking up old friends and acquaintances but not necessarily with the intention of contacting them. Sometimes you are curious but don't feel the need to reconnect. That is the only reason I've thought of joining. Now I'm glad I never did.

I just do not get Facebook. What makes it so popular.

The profile visit is optional. I've had several friends join it in the past few weeks, but I haven't. I don't care who looks at my profile. I don't join any of the groups or play any of the games. I do love Facebook for staying in touch with friends and family.

It says "Privacy Type: Open: All content is public." Does that mean all your pictures have to be open to the public?

My FB profile is set for only "friends" to see. Other people can just see my name and the one picture I've chosen for the top of my page (or the default silhouette).

If I don't choose to participate in the profile watch feature I don't see a problem with privacy.

Am I missing something?

Is it just to see who clicked on your profile (the public profile), or to see who clicked on your pictures, as in your photo albums?

I am on FB because a relative asked me to join.

I understand, and care about, almost nothing about it.

I don't want to play the games or send "gifts" or any of that.

I see and enjoy hearing from a few people.

Petaloid, Could you please tell me how to set my Profile for Friends Only? I know I am supposed to go to Settings, but which of those many choices do I choose?

I understand how some people enjoy and appreciate FB; I just don't have that need.

I just don't do Facebook. No reason. I think it is good if it is montered and not too much information gets out.
GK's do, I think. Really don't want pictures out especially of GK's, since one relative is in law enforcement, and he already has had some threats, as do most people in that field.

Just set your privacy settings the way you want them. I think it's kind of funny that you don't want people to know you were looking through their pictures. (No offense meant)

The reason I don't want people knowing I've been looking through their FB pages is because I do it a lot! I find Facebook to be good reading material and very entertaining...but I don't want to look like a stalker.

Seriously, one of my friends recently posted a list of her top 10 followers and I was on the list. I felt embarrassed to be on it, like I was stalking her. She is funny, so I look at her FB page every morning with my tea. But people wouldn't understand that. I'm a reader, I read everything, including FB, a lot. Now I feel like I should stay off her FB page.

Cause I feel like I'm intruding if they're not pics of my direct friends. Almost like I should be asking permission to look thru them. Maybe it's the way I am. Offense taken.

I feel the same way Zeetera. Now I find myself not wanting to look at peoples pages for fear I will be considered a stalker or creeper or whatever they call it.

Click on Settings at the top of your Facebook page, and you will see a pull-down menu.

Choose Privacy Settings.
From that page, click on Profile Information.

On the Profile Information page, click on the padlock icons listed down the right side and choose "friends only" on each one. Save your updated settings.

If you don't want people to see your pics then don't post them on facebook! Or use the security settings to allow only friends to visit. I enjoy facebook very much. Talking with friends on the other side of the country or world on a daily basis and seeing the pictures they post. We post pictures here all the time. How many people look at yours here do you think? At least with facebook you have some control over who sees them. Just use common sense and learn how to use the tools you have available.

There is a new feature on Facebook that tracks movements and shares it with others. If you're not comfortable with it, then check your settings (paragraph 3, sentence 2) and follow Petaloid's instructions.

I'm not saying to remove or deactivate your account if you don't want to. That was my choice. To each his own. It's not about my decisions to post or not post pictures, this was for informational purposes.

I think she is saying that she doesn't want to be tracked when SHE is looking at OTHER peoples pics. Me either... not who is looking at HER PICS...

If teens were aware how many people were peeking into their pictures and profile, how many names of strangers might show up, maybe they will be more careful about what they do online. It's a reality check. It might freak me out to know how many people peek at my profile (although I do have it set to friends only). Then again, I might be really disappointed to find out no one is looking. ;o)

I admit to looking at the profiles of people I don't know, friends of friends. It's creepy that I do that. If I know they'll know, I'll probably stop doing it. ;o) I mean really, I don't need to look. But when a friend posts to their friend's picture that something was really funny, and it's just a click to see what's so funny, I go see! But I probably should just mind my own business. If I's really using FB for what I say I use it for, staying in touch with friends and family, then people knowing I looked at their pictures/profile should not be a big deal to me. If I'm being nosy, then yeah, I don't want them to know. Like I said, I admit to being nosy! But it is not my right to be nosy anonymously. ;o) Excuse me, but I want to invade your privacy but keep my privacy when I do it. LOL. If I don't want people to know I'm doing something, I should probably not do it, especially when it does involve their privacy.

That's all meant lightly, b/c like I said, I admit to peeking at the profiles of people I don't really know. I justify it with "If they really cared, they'd set it to friends only." But if I feel guilty about it, I know I really shouldn't do it.

I don't think you need to worry. From what I can tell, it's not real.

The page you linked to has quite a few spelling and grammar mistakes - an "official" Facebook page likely wouldn't. Also, it requests that you invite all your friends and it will send you the application after 50% of your friends join the group - Facebook wouldn't require that.

I just spent a few minutes googling, and from what I read it seems that it's a scam and no such Facebook software exists.

I think you could see other's pictures before this 2010 change. I just checked again. I went to the site of a niece and checked one of her friend's sites, which said it was closed to others unless you were a friend, and got into her photo site.

I only read my daughters pages....I get a lot of requests to be a "friend" but I ignore them, unless it is someone I really want to hear from. Even then I don't contact them much. I enjoyed playing FarmTown..but I don't go there much anymore. Can't get anymore connected land and don't want to start another farm and I have about 8 million of their dollars so I really don't need to sell crops...getting kind of boring.

I can live without Facebook..and I'm sure it can live without me.

I don't think this is bogus.

I clicked on the link that zeetera provided and brought up the page. While it does contain spelling errors / grammar issues, it lists the names of the admins plus the name of the group who created this - "Rolondo StrayBullet (Beverly Hills High) (creator)." If it was created by a high school student, well, that could explain the spelling / grammar issues.

Next, I did a search for this Facebook page from my own Facebook page. From your own Facebook page, do a search for the name of this new feature page - "SEE WHO CLICKED ON YOUR PICS - Profile Watch." It brings up this page with an option to use the application. It is a little strange " You will be sent the application after 50% of your friends joined." I'm guessing that this may be a way to get the word out about this new feature to everyone faster than if individuals join it.

I clicked on it to join, and the page was added to my page as a group I joined. Based on the instructions, I'm presuming that the application will be activated after 50% of my friends join the application. But the only way to get 50% of my friends to join is if I invite them to. It will be a chain reaction - 50% of my friends, 50% of 1 of a friends's friends, etc. Pretty soon everyone will have this application enabled.

I too, think this is kinda creepy. I don't care if anyone looks at my page - my pages don't contain anything that I care if anyone sees - even people I don't know. The creepy part though is that I have found friends by looking at my friends friend's pages. These people don't know me - what will they think if someone they don't know looks at their pages? And I occasionally look at my friends children's pages to see what they're up to. And then the random people I stumble across? It's very easy to go off in many directions and read the pages of people you don't even know. For me, it's out of pure curiosity.

I can see the pros and cons of this feature. I don't like it though.

Old Gardener, what you are talking about is probably the stalker application. From what I understand, it records how many times you post on someone's wall, comment on their pictures, "like" a status or post or picture, etc.... not how often you check out their profile.

nicole_ont - I hope the link you provided is legitimate. It's so hard anymore to know what is real and what isn't.

I did check Snopes and didn't find anything claiming that the "SEE WHO CLICKED ON YOUR PICS - Profile Watch" is a hoax.

Nicole, yes, it's the stalker application, and it made me feel like a stalker, and, no, I won't click on her posts anymore because of this application that she uses and posts the results on her wall.

I believe it's similar to the idea originally posted here, telling you who has clicked on your profile (or posts or pictures, whatever)...it's along the same lines...it lets someone know that you've been, uh, stalking them, so to speak. It takes your reading habits and posts them on FB.

I don't mind people looking at my profile and my pictures, I have the settings set to friends only...But I don't want everyone knowing what I'm reading when I'm on FB.

My cousin just called and she doesn't know if it's real. She told me to check it out, lol.

But it DOESN'T take your reading habits, Old Gardener. It's your posting habits.... nothing that one of your Facebook friends couldn't find by looking on your profile. It doesn't track what pages you visit, or what you click on or what you read, rather what you comment on.

When I first heard about the profile tracker stuff, it freaked me out, too. I don't want my cousin's friend that I've never met to know that I've been checking out the pictures of her new puppy, even if she DID make them public and wouldn't likely care. :) Nor would I want a certain KT member to know that I've clicked through her Facebook album of her culinary treats multiple times. hehehe

What I've read is that Facebook policy allows applications to access information about who has made comments, written on walls, etc., but it doesn't allow page counts and such.

I found the WALL of that "Facebook Trackers do not Exist" page that I posted to be very informative. Check out some of the comments.

I never signed up for FaceBook or any of those sites. There was a news story of a pretty young teen girl who posted her photo and told where she worked. Some guy went to her place of business and began stalking/harassing her.

I know, Nicole, but it doesn't matter "why" I'm on this person's top 10 followers list.

Whether I'm there because I occasionally comment on her posts, or because I click on her page or pictures...it still looks like I'm way more invested in this person than I really am. I haven't even seen her in 20 years. And I click on/comment on all of my friends' posts equally.

I just don't like applications that take things out of perspective and put your name on them for everyone to see.

I posted about this very thing a week or so ago. My DD had "joined" the Group..and there's just something about it that makes me uncomfortable. I'm pretty sure I have my FB as private as it can be made...but we never know!

I wish I would have seen your post country, but I was too busy doing Vegas. Another thing on my mind that made me think it was legit was the news stations reporting that Facebook was relaxing their security in 2010.
