Need prayers ...

Our best friend Ajay has been battling pancreatic cancer (stage 4) for about a year; undergoing chemotherapy at the Al Tawam Hospital (Al Ain, UAE) which is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine.

His latest reports show a lesion in the liver (in addition to the ones on the lung and gall bladder which we knew about before). They decided this morning to inject the liver with some drug to make the lesion shrink (targeting only the lesion as the 'good' cells should not be destroyed).

We stayed with Ajay on Tuesday when he was admitted to the hospital for severe abdominal pain and he's been on morphine but the relief is short-lived. As of this evening he is in tremendous pain (after the liver injection) and the morphine isn't working at all. We'll stay with him tomorrow and the day after. His wife Waheeda is trying to manage home, work and hospital stays. His office has been very supportive, his boss said to just stay home if he can't make it, it would be OK.

When DH was new to Dubai he stayed as a paying guest with Ajay and Waheeda; they showed us that friends are family - Waheeda & Ajay have done so much for us; Ajay treats me like he does his little sister and so does Waheeda. Frankly, I'd say they're closer to us than family!

Ajay and Wandy need all the prayers they can get at this time. I know that KT prayers work, so please if you could, send up some prayers for Ajay and Wandy.

Pranjal, I will be sending some prayers for Ajay and Wandy. I hope he's relieved of his pain, and the injection helps.

I just got back home. Thank you Linda, for posting about Albert. Albert was not sick, this happened suddenly. I spoke to him last Saturday, he was telling me about his new deck and the flowerbeds they were putting in. I told him I had stopped by his house but they were not there. I saw what Betty and him had done, his yard was beautiful. He offered to lend me his trailer so I could bring big plumeira plants home from Corpus for a couple of guys on the plumeira forum. but I did not have a hitch on my vehicle. He said he would offer to drive, but his daughter had taken his truck to Belton. He was always thinking of others. He told me he loved to read the fourm, but since he moved down to the coast, was so busy, he did not have time to post. He should be put under your insurance, thats the new law they kids can be covered until age 26. It's a wonderful safety net in this economy when jobs are so hard to find. Prayers being said.

Need prayers for my mil and fil,both injured and need meal ideas

Thanks for the ideas. One of the problems is that they live in a rural area and meals on wheels isn't available to them. The home health people are coming on Monday and I thinking that I am going to go over when they are there to make sure that they get all the bases covered. My mil is the kind of person that is always the first to help others but never asks for help herself. I am going to call one of the church members that lives closest and see if they can get a group together to take meals over every other day or so. My FIL is the problem and thinks everything needs to be a hot dinner. Me I could make a pasta salad and we could eat it all week long with sandwiches or grilling out. But that wouldn't be enough for them. So will have to do some thinking. Also FIL's son ( MIL and FIL married when in their 50's ) lives in town and hasn't worked for months and has been taking money from mil and fil and part of me feels that he needs to step up and help. But I want to do what I can to help. With 3 kids under 4 and one more on the way, I have enough on my plate to deal with but will muddle through. I think the most important thing is to be there when home health comes and to make sure that we cover all the bases, physical therepy for both of them, bathing, cleaning, and cooking. You've got it, pranjal. When my dh had kidney stones and then again when he had a bad case of diverticulitis morphine didn't touch his pain. He was put on dilaudid, and also a continuous epidural after his surgery which helped immensely. There is also oxicontin which is made for illnesses just such as your friends. Please ask his wife to insist on better pain management! He should not have to suffer this much when there are better drugs available.

I am so sorry to hear about all their troubles, Pranjal. I hope they find a medication to ease Ajay's pain and that they also find a way to sustain him for longer. I really hate cancer.

You're a good friend, you and DH. They ARE lucky to have you both.

This is so sad...there just seems to be so much cancer around us. Saying big time prayers for him. Seems like there are alot of prayers regarding cancer vicitms...they just have to be heard loud and clear!

Thinking of your friend and sending special thoughts.

My Mom who had Alzheimer's Disease had pancreatic cancer that had spread to her liver which caused diabeties. Pancreatic cancer seems to run in my family and it is an awful painful cancer to suffer from.

Thanks a million, everyone! Reading your responses makes me feel good and brings tears to my eyes. True, we've been worried for Ajay for quite some time now but the way he's facing this ordeal .. well, he's a fighter!

He's been in pain for the last two days but it's easing up a bit; in addition to the morphine, he has a painkiller patch that works for 72 hrs. He's also got fever and chills but it should subside gradually. They'll scan him to see what's happened to the tumor and if they like what they see, he'll go home in a few days. Then chemo would continue as before.

Thank you again, my KT family, I knew I could count on you ... KT prayers are indeed super powerful!
