Sharing Emi's art glass bowl

This is my step-daughter, Emi's, latest high school art project and I think it is just so beautiful. It is a glass bowl, about 10 inches across and 2 and a half inches deep. She choose a large piece of glass as a background piece, created (cut) the smaller pieces of glass, and then used some special sort of glue to tack the smaller colored pieces of glass in place. If I understood, it was created on the inside of an existing bowl shaped mold. Then it was fired in the kiln where it melted and took the shape of the mold. After it was cooled, she filed the edges to make it smooth and then it was fired again.

I'm a proud mom.... just had to show someone :-)

Well, I think that is absolutely gorgeous! Is she giving it to you.........? I'd display that bowl prominently! I don't blame you for being so proud!

Jan, The splattered paint technique was made famous by Jackson Pollock. Believe it or not he became a very famous artist doing just that. Laying out a canvas and splattering different colors of paint on it. It amazes me what can be considered art. I think what we do on this forum takes more talent...but hey, that is just the opinion of someone who used to be an art major in college. Maybe I should go back and finish...lol I love the Chihuly piece. I have seen some of his work before and have liked all it. I saw a chandelier that another artist (I have no idea of the artists name) had done in his style. It was gorgeous. I would love to have one in my home. I don't think I would want the Windex bottle though. It would just rimind me that I always have windows that need to be cleaned. Those things need to be hidden in a cabinet...LOL And the ladder is one that I would have to clean up the look of it and put it somewhere in the garden. It looks like it has had a rough life with some painter.

This is a really fun thread. I like to see what everyone has in their garden and how thoughtful about art and creative you all are. I often think I'm going to "make" some garden art but then never get around to it. I don't decorate the garden with a whole lot of art. I have a few decorative stakes and then a few glazed birdbaths and some copper sprinklers that I use more for decoration than watering. My mom has a very cute piece of garden art. The story behind it is that we were at Hever Castle in England and they were selling all kinds of cement statues. We fell in love with so many of them. My mom couldn't part with this guy. Hever Castle was down a hill so we had to hike back up the hill, carry him on the rest of our tour and then carry him home on the plane. He weighed between 30-35 pounds so it was like carrying a little person around. He was well worth it though!

The size of a kitchen has nothing to do with its charm. My own kitchen is a small one, but it is so pleasing to me that I never enter it without a glow of satisfaction. Love it, Rexem! These are my thoughts exactly. Thanks so much for sharing eternally appropriate kitchen design advice!

@User Things are looking better and better! I like the trees. Gallery walls are great because they can evolve over time. Here are the steps I have swirling around in my head when I am hanging art. Maybe it will help you or maybe not. Take this with a grain of salt as I am no expert on gallery walls or anything else for that matter. I came up with it off the cuff but it works for me. Start with the largest pieces first. I like to create vertical columns of art going up the wall with the largest pieces at the bottom. Here is the start of four columns. Next center art vertically on each column, with the bigger pieces on the bottom. Try to have the same amount of space between each piece. As you obtain more pieces, create more verticals but keep the bigger pieces on bottom. Do you see below I went from 4 columns to 6 columns? Last, add one or two smaller pieces outside of the typical areas. You are done once every inch of space is covered with stuff from floor to ceiling ;-)

Very pretty! I make glass beads and want to make bowls like that someday. I hope to get a kiln cheap on Craigslist so I can. You can see the first ones I ever made in a class at the link below.
