Upright or canister?

I switched to a canister about 10 years ago and I prefer them. I have 2 Kenmore Progressives and they've been top rated by Consumer Reports.

I am leaning towards an upright. I'll check out the Kenmore Progressives. I have always had great luck with Kenmore products. Thanks.

There are a number of ways to get around the problem and the way you are trying did not work for me. You can use a 'union' fitting; or use a PVC adapter (you will have to decide male or female) which will end you up with PVC pipes to couple up. If there is not space to permit flexing the pipe, you can use a compression union. There is a telescoping coupler which might be the least problematic. Last, the disclaimer! My encounters with sprinklers have been confined to Zone 9 where I have used AOTA with success. I am told that in other parts of the mainland, freezes can occur and things are done differently.

Stick Vaccum for wood floors?

Can anyone recommend a vacuum that is ok for an oriental rug? The rug is handmade, not thick, and is not heirloom quality. I have a cat so I would like to vacuum daily. I have read that it is best to switch off the beater bar. Will I get enough suction then? I have vacuumed it using the bare floor setting and it does the job, but I do not want to ruin it, so what is the best vacuum to use? Also, have read that it is best to vacuum the back side of the rug. My rug is large and has two couches sitting on it. Is it really necessary to turn the rug over? It would be a big job. The rug already has some nubs sticking up so I do want to be as gentle as possible. Would love to hear people's suggestions for the brand and type of vacuum to use. Thanks for your help,

Carpet pros, what vaccum will I need?
Q

You first need to determine what vacuum the manufacturer recommends for the style of carpet you purchased. For some styles of carpet like a frieze or something that approaches a shag look, a beater bar in your vacuum will void the warranty. This will vary by manufacturer, so get with your retailer who should be able to contact Dream Weaver for specifics. Also, Dream Weaver may have this information on their website.

Wow, Raven. I didn't realize there was a container size difference between the colors. Unfortunately...the only color B,B & B had in stock was the purple and I need it a.s.a.p. so I had them hold it for me. The smaller container shouldn't be a problem but it's interesting that the sales person never mentioned that and I didn't see it in any of the on-line searches I did. See how valuable KT members are! Maybe they'll have the white back in stock by the time I get there and I'll have a look but I don't expect the smaller container will pose any problems. I have a pair of knees who complain constantly so my trips to the floor and mechanical maintenance are becoming less and less these days...and I hear ya. I had my very first bone density test done this morning and I was shocked to learn that my bones are less than they should be. Guess I'd better talk nicer to these knees. Even at the tender age of 80...I'm planning on needing them for a lot longer. Thanks for the heads up. :-)

Hoovers and Kenmores are getting the best ratings in the May 2010 Consumer Reports.

I just bought a small Tattoo canister from Dirt Devil. It got mostly good reviews online, but really I just liked the look of it. lol I have a upright Oreck for my carpets,
but it doesn't have any attachments plus I like a canister for my hard floors.

I have a Sanitaire upright made by electrolux. I've never seen them sold in the big box stores. We have a local store that sells sanitaire and genomi (sewing) products. I really like my sanitaire.

I LOVE my rainbow. No dust particles go in the air at all. Very important for a dust allergy person. :)

Hoover Wind Tunnel self-propelled here too. I am very pleased with it and the Hoover self propelled I used for 15 years prior to this one. (the former one was still working well when we moved and left it behind) Nanny

I just bought a Hoover Windtunnel Pet Plus Rewind Cyclonic and am loving it. The hose for the attachments is a bit short, imho, but I found I had a nice long old one I must have been saving for just such a case as this.

It is great on pet hair with both the attachments and while vacuuming the floor. I did quite a bit of research on line before buying.

If you can afford it, I'd get a Dyson. I know someone that just bought one and she said it was something like 50 percent off at Target. Not sure what she spent in the end though.

I have a Bissell Healthy Home and I like it. It has fantastic suction. The only thing I don't like is the container holding the dirt & pet hair has to be emptied frequently. It is an upright and it has attachments. I paid around $240 for it. I really like that it has a hepa filter because I have asthma and allergies.

LOL! Talking about vacuums is the only time you can say that something sucks and it's a good thing!
