I think so. It will add a modern edge to the kitchen but it could read quite traditional depending on all the other elements in the space. I have a transitional kitchen with white shaker cabinets in a contemporary arrangement, no upper cabinets, white macabus quartzite perimeter, white island and soapstone top, and a high gloss grey serving area with Raven caesarstone. My house is traditional but the interior is leaning transitional/contemporary.

Do you have a picture of the luce di luna? It can be tough to find in some regions.

When you posted the pictures on your other thread about island countertop choices, this one was my favorite. I agree it has a more contemporary vibe. And I like the veins running the length of the slab (as someone else also pointed out).

The edge detail that you choose would help make the quartzite read either more traditional or more contemporary.

I love that slab!!! Depending on your soapstone and the other elements in your kitchen, you should be able to make it work very nicely.

I am sure you can find a way to make your island a fun "twist" (of modern) in your otherwise traditional kitchen if you bring in some other accessories to mesh the two. For example, you could add details that utilize traditional materials in a new way, or in a modern shape or style (e.g. mercury glass pendants or objects in a newer, or slightly more modern style).

In our DR we mixed modern leather and chrome chairs with our walnut DR table. The shape/style of the table is modern, yet classic. The walnut itself is somewhat rustic looking (unplanned for originally, but an unexpected bonus visually). The combination of the organic with the modern worked out even better than we thought it would, and is one of the things often commented on (favorably!) by others.

I think this slab of quartzite could be a really nice feature in your traditional kitchen depending on the surrounding elements, and how you use the slab itself (edges, shape, etc.).

I don't think the stone has to say modern although it works well in a modern kitchen. Can you post a pic of the soapstone side by side with this slab? How they play together is more important than any labels about style. I love this slab you have found and hope it works with the ss.

Sure--here is the soapstone slab. Unfortunately, it's not oiled in the picture, but when oiled, it is very dark gray/black.

I think it can work. Luce di luna does pair well with modern, but I think it is a quite sophisticated looking stone that could work well with a traditional kitchen. It may give it a bit of an unexpected edge to the space, which is a good thing IMHO.

Just beware that the linear nature of LdL is very, very strong. It is a good idea to bring a sample door and a sample of the soapstone and hold up against the quartzite. I did this with my cabs and it really helped seal the deal for me.
