Pietra di Cardoso DOES etch

We've been looking at Pietra di Cardoso for our kitchen countertops -- my wife LOVES the look of it. So we took some samples, had the stone yard seal them with a quality sealer, and tested them with a variety of substances.

The stone yard applied muriatic (hydrochloric) acid and it had a dramatic effect. The surface became pitted and started to erode -- especially along the veins in the stone. Obviously, most people won't apply muriatic acid to their countertops in normal kitchen use, so we tested the samples with a variety of substances at home. Vegetable oil left a very clear dark mark, which has begun to fade a bit after a day.

But lemon juice very clearly etches the stone. A glass with lemon juice on the bottom left a ring after sitting on the stone for as little as 8 hours. The lemon juice ate away at the surface of the stone and the ring can be felt as well as seen.

With a bunch of kids who drink lemonade like it was milk, there's no way we can go with Pietra di Cardoso in our kitchen. So now we're looking at Jet Mist or Virginia Mist granites which look sort of similar (gray with white veins). If anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to chime in.
