I hate how people complain to the GW all the time and have posts pulled. I've never done it, and I never will. And that joke wasn't my taste... but I didn't think it was offensive, either.

Could someone email me and let me know who the idiotic prude was that objected to THAT joke? Good grief! Dottie, you have no need to apologize, nay, you should NOT apologize for posting a funny joke. Not long ago someone posted a joke and just because most people didn't get it, they went nutzo over it! I get very worked up over these humorless imbeciles who can't laugh anymore, yet they'll sneak around telling their little "jokes". Ha-ha, aren't they cute.

Some give a disclaimer when they post a joke, picture or cartoon and maybe that's warranted. I think maybe it should have a disclaimer:

It must truly be a hideous life to be so self-centered and humorless. In this world where our economy has fallen apart, thousands of our kids have been needlessly killed (my godson included so just TRY ME if you want), people bilked out of life savings, crime, and the like, wouldn't a little laughter help ease the tension a bit? Take these fearmongers out back and force them to watch some sitcoms. They need all the help they can get. I would say these people need the prayers, but you know what? I hope they bask away in their self-imposed misery. But they don't need to share it.

I enjoyed the joke Dottie! How anyone could be offended by it in any way, shape or form is beyond comprehension by humans. KEEP 'EM COMING!!

Most people come here to share the camaraderie and to give support to those who need it or just to have a place to come to for relaxation after a stressful day. If we were all in a room in real life someone might overhear and be offended by a joke or a remark, but for crying out loud, if they start reading a joke and it offends them, why don't they just backspace and get away from the post. Whiny, complaining, crybaby tattletales make me sick. Get a life!!!

From some of the old posts that have been shown here this place must have been such a blast at one time. I wish I had been here then and met some of those funny ladies who used to be here.

The idiot prude here...I'm the one who was offended, but I was just expressing my opinion and I didn't need or expect an apology. BTW, I never requested that the thread get pulled -- I am surprised that just expressing my opinion had such a result. For that, let me apologize to all of you.

In light of my clarification above, I think Cynic has gone a bit overboard. Just because I was offended at the one joke does not color me a "humorless" person. I could see the humor in it, I just took offense at the sterotyping.

I think someone else besides mtnwomanbc must have complained, as I don't see the powers that be reading all the posts here. I thought it was funny, and could not see that it was offensive at all. Whatever happened to SOB, I wonder?

everyone has their opinion, and I don't think that making a comment on a post that you are offended by it, gets a post pulled. I think that someone has to actually contact the peeps that run the show, and make a stink to have it pulled...

I think everyone has a different sense of humor and a different tolerance level for what they find acceptable. Right or wrong, with all the diversity in the world and different tastes, I don't think it's right to label people "snitch, ignorant, idiotic prude, humorless imbeciles, self-centered, humorless, fearmongers, whiny, complaining, crybaby tattletales." Just because someone doesn't like the same things YOU like doesn't make them any of those adjectives.

Just for the record, I printed out the "Rancher" joke for my DH who won't get within six feet of the computer. He has spread it all over town (a very small town) as he is well-known for his jokes..and everyone he has shown it to, including one very prudish lady friend, has nearly fallen over laughing! The unexpected punch line is the key!

Right or wrong, I thought it was funny. Shared it with several people at work and they all thought it was funny, and to tell you the truth one of my fellow workers is just like that guy in the joke and he was not offended.
I say keep them comimg. Those of us that like that kind of humor can read them and share with whoever we want, and if someone doesn't like it, skip it. We all have a right to our opinion.

I googled the joke and found it hilarious.

First, I doubt that any opinions one posted got the post removed. You have to send a complaint in to Garden Web using the Report Abuse form and include the URL of the specific post. They review it and decide if it should be pulled.

I miss the Pay to Play days too. It did seem more free, more fun and less censorship. Free sites always seem to attract a few Bored Queens who feel it's their personal responsibilty to conform the content of "their" board to "their" rules. Major controlling personalities.

It's a shame. The more we tread on eggshells over here, the less interesting it becomes.

Board Queens may succeed in monitoring this forum until there's nothing left to monitor.

The joke is funny and it came with the precursor of Joke in the title line so it sounds like the self imposed joke police was only in it for the control freak function.......

They aren't winning but they keep trying.....such a shame.

I just googled it, and now I remember. Must not have made much of an impression the first time. Just SOB, and ..live and let live.

"if you ever wear my clothes into town again you're fired" joke? I just googled it and don't understand why that would be pulled. Maybe it was because of comments that were made. I never saw the post so don't know what was said about it.

Here's the joke: The Widow and The Ranch Hand

There once was a successful rancher who died and left everything to his devoted wife. She was determined to keep the ranch and make a go of it, but she knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand.

Two men applied for the job. One was gay and the other a drunk. She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied, she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk.

He turned out to be fantastic worker, worked long hard hours every day and knew a lot about ranching. For weeks the two of them worked, and the ranch was doing really well. Then one day the rancher's wife said to the hired hand, "You have done a really good job and the ranch looks great, you should go into town and kick up your heels."

The only people I could see that offending would be transvestites or ones they have deceived for many years.

First of all let's clarify that anyone who has ever read my posts knows quite well that I endorse the ability to disagree. Lively, open disagreement and debate is healthy. What may bother one won't offend another. I encourage people expressing opinions and though I may disagree with them, I do support their posting those opinions.

As it's been made clear over and over, I have problems with the whiners, crybabies, etc, who run off and complain to the forum feigning offense to have opinions, posts and threads pulled from the forum. There's no need to get overly defensive for simply posting an opinion - that WILL NOT get a thread pulled. Fact is, SOMEBODY complained about a funny joke that should offend nobody, and it was the complaint that got that thread pulled. PERIOD.

Let it also be known that I make no apology for having strong beliefs on certain things, along with strong opinions. The censorship of a joke like this is totally offensive to me and is an example of what people scream about when it comes to liberty. I'll pull punches occasionally, but frankly I get upset with myself when I do. I have a sneaking suspicion that people who are offended by a joke about a cross dresser laughs uproariously at bigoted blonde jokes, sexist jokes or otherwise. To me it's hypocritical and nothing short of stupid.

This world needs to lighten up. And admittedly, at times I do too. But having to constantly preface any conversation with "I'm sorry, but..." or "I hope nobody takes this wrong.." or whatever is getting old to me.

mtnwomanbc, I believe that you didn't file a complaint. And as said I support you disagreeing. I don't understand, but I respect that you stand up for your beliefs. I hope that you agree with my opinions about people who won't stand up, rather slink around and complain. That should be offensive to us all.

I didn't care for this joke either, but I also posted I knew Dotmom meant no harm.

I'd read the joke before in an earlier email and chose not to forward it to anyone. However, I certainly have never taken it upon myself to report to the Head Chief here about anything.

I always miss what's going on here. Missed the joke and the posts on it too. It gets tiring having posts pulled because someone gets offended, though. If we all thought the same way it would be really dull in the world and here at the KT.

this is why I no longer feel comfortable at the table,so I am now just a lurker and occasional poster.Never could seem to say or print anything right.Do really miss being at the table.

It really takes a lot to offend me. I have NEVER been offended by a joke posted at the KT. I am, however, very offended when someone imposes on my right to read whatever is posted here. I am an adult and I can decide what to read and what to ignore. I wish everyone at the KT would act like an adult and do the same. We don't need the censor police here. It's ok to say you didn't enjoy the joke or didn't agree with what someone says. It is NOT ok to go running to the admin. The only time I can see that being an option is if someone were using foul language, threatening someone, pulling a scam, etc.

Everyone's taste is different. Not everyone thinks the same things are funny. For example I absolutely hate satirical and slapstick comedy but others find them hugely hilarious. i.e. Airplane and anything with Leslie Nielsen. BUT that is no reason why anyone should be offended enough to actually ask for the post to be pulled. AND the forum police shouldn't just arbritarily pull a post on one person's say-so. They should only be pulled if the mass majority objected, and that would only be with foul language, and threatenting, like you said.

Thanks for posting the joke mtnwomanbc. I've been reading the posts and trying to remember whether or not I read it. Jokes usually don't stick in my mind very long for some reason. That wasn't offensive, at least to me. Sure hope the cold weather isn't destroying people's sense of humor. Sorry you feel so bad, Dottie, but you have nothing to apologize for!!
