Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 or 9000 IAQ?

Basically can I control humidity through the HW IAQ with the equipment listed below or do I need to purchase something additional from Rheem?

Rheem: (to be purchased this week)

RPQL036JEZ - 3 Ton Heat Pump 15seer

RHKLHM3617JA - variable speed air handler

RXBH17A10J - Heat Strip (but said he may put in a 15KW)

Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 or 9000 (IAQ)???

Should go with the Honeywell 8000 or the 9000 (IAQ)?

Maryland (AA County) - colonial 1700 sqft + 400 sqft. condition basement. House is 25 years old but has new windows and siding and pretty good insulation.

I just set my Rheem VS air handler up to control humidity via the IAQ. You don't need anything else, unless you want to do it with absolutely no overcooling, in which case you need a relay. I chose to set it to one degree of overcooling instead, which is the lowest the IAQ goes.

Rheem's ODD (On Demand Dehumidification) line works bassackwards compared to the rest of the industry, so you have to set the IAQ up as if you wanted to use overcooling to control humidity in order to get the DHM terminals to switch the ODD line properly.

The IAQ could have a whole lot better programming interface.
BTW, the crew that installed my equipment apparently didn't have a clue how to wire it for ODD, and just left it unwired, even though I told them the main reason I wanted the VS AH was humidity control.

The good news is Rheem's ODD works wonderfully. It really drops the humidity when it comes on.
I think you need the 9,000 series IAQ to do the ODD, but I don't have my paperwork handy to verify that.

Looking at the instructions for the RHKL, the dehumidify on demand wires like others I'm use to such as Trane. Remove voltage from the ODD terminal to slow the blower. That's what the IAQ will do if it calls for dehumidification. Tell the IAQ to dehumidify using the A/C.

My Nordyne gas furnace does it the opposite. I have to tell the IAQ to dehumidify with a stand alone to work the opposite. By contrast, the older Nordyne gas (G6) and the air handlers do it like Rheem & Trane.

The fact that you observed the AC over cool by two degrees would indicate the cool to dehumidify operation is working. Honeywell doesn't state how close they will hit the target humidity level. I think what you are seeing is normal. Do a search on the comfort-R setting. There is some debate as to whether having it on or off is the best setting. The documentation is not always completely accurate. The thermostats sometimes get software updates but I feel the documentation is not revised. This may explain the inconsistencies with what you are observing on the display.

Normally a Ylo and O is jumpered and BK and R are Jumpered When using the Ylo terminal. A signal to Ylo creates 50% CFM from the blower, a signal to Ylo and Y the blower will run at 100% This would be used in XL19i or XL20i with 2 compressors. Say 4 ton XL20i system, has 2 compressors, a 4 ton and 2 ton compressor. In high stage blower runs at 100% with 4 ton compressor, low stage runs 2 ton compressor 50% of blower cfm capacity. BK and R with jumper removed capacity drops from High 80% and Low 40% I won't kid, it can get so mixed up with do this don't do that, that a normal install crew that only installs one of these a month may get confused and lost. This is why Trane has their communication controller XL900 with Comfort Link II and with that there is where my knowledge ends because I've spent the last 3 yrs with the Bryant Evolution and Carrier Infinity communication systems.

ibjammin sorry for my tardy reply. I have had computer problem issues. regarding your thermostat question, Trane has been and still are behind the curve on thermostats. as I recall, you were not getting the new communicating air handler but the standard VS air handler. If that's the case then the HW VP IAQ stat is the preferrred choice. just so you are aware, I did look at the numbers for both air handlers and the new communicating mdl has a better HSPF heating eff and the XL900 stat would be the correct mdl. Thanks Dave! I am suppose to do a 2-zones. The framing at 3rd floor attic hasn't been completed yet so for now we are just using IAQ and TH5421 for 2nd floor. Later we will use W8835 with two IAQ for 2 zones. Everything is fine other than the contractor didn't enable DOD, I got the impression he doesn't really understand DOD feature. Everytime I told him I want HW VP IAQ because I want DOD he was like oh pretty much all trane board/or HW 8000 has dehumification features. Grrr! They will come back in a few weeks to complete the zoning and given that it's difficult to trust them set it right I thought I tap your excellent expertise and prepare for myself. Anyway, just make sure I understand it right. I draw the following line on the pic and 2 other questions. Correct me if I were wrong. From t-stat Btw I forgot to mention I have a 8 KW Aux backup heat strip, at the moment is wired on W1, is this about right? He told me the Aux Heat strip will come on at 3 degree lower the set temprature. For example, if I set the temprature to 68 F and the current room temprature is 66 F, the heat pump heat-on will come up but if the room temprature is only 64 F, the aux heap strip will kick in first until it reaches 65 F then the Heat pump. Unless I put an outdoor temp sensor I won't be able to "lockout" say only let the heat strip comes on at 35 F. Does this make sense? Again, thank you so much. I hope you have a great vocation. Tell the IAQ to dehumidify using the A/C.

That's what I found. Rheem claims most of the industry is the opposite. Unfortunately, the IAQ insists on overcooling in that mode. The lowest setting I found is one degree, which is tolerable.

R needs to be jumpered to DHM1 on the EIM with the ODD line connected to DHM2, and switches 9 and 10 in the air handler need to be set to the opposite of their defaults.

I was amazed at how fast it dropped the humidity once I had the ODD line hooked up and the IAQ programmed appropriately. It really biases the system in favor of latent removal. The condensate was running in a steady stream at only 60% RH. I'm impressed.
