Yes, the "real feel" "humiture" and other names annoy me. I do like to know the dewpoint since it tells you a lot of things but I don't like their little "comfort scales" "gridlock rating" and stuff. I do enough of my own forecasting that I can understand things without them dumbing it down for me. And even people who don't know that much about weather could well be offended by the way they often talk down to people - and often THEY don't know what they're talking about! Doppler/schmoppler... it's RADAR! And I can live without all the bouncy, cutesy, animated icons, and the computer generated clouds put over a local picture to show us what it will look like tomorrow.

What I really get a kick out of most is the ones who flaunt their "meteorologist" title when all that many of them really have is a Mississippi degree. Essentially, mail in $500 and you're a "certified broadcast meteorologist"!

There's a meteorologist (and a real one, with a degree in weather and science) in northern MN who I enjoy watching. He tries to teach while he broadcasts, does know a lot, but doesn't talk down to you, and he admits that it's still basically a guess for a lot of it past a few days out. They used to use the phrase George said it would be like this... on the newscasts but since his return after being out of broadcasting for several years, they didn't bring back that phrase! Maybe he got rusty??

I know what you mean. In winter, there's the "wind chill" temp (which factors in wind) and the real-feel "heat index" in the summer (which considers humidity).

And no matter where you live, a native/resident there will give you the old "If you don't like th weather, wait 5 minutes."

I don't listen to or watch the TV forecasts beyond what they tell me about the next day, so I can make, or change my plans. Don't need all the cutesy stuff. Mostly I trust the local radio guy.

The meteorologists exibit the results of all that expensive education by using those terms. Most of us did not get that education, so we do not know what they are talking about. Like azzalea, I prefer it simple.

They do a pretty good job of alerting us to the more serious weather situations.

It's been a lot of years since this one guy left our local channel to move onto the Weather Channel. He's retired all together now. But that guy was the absolute BEST in my opinion. He did nothing but state the facts,,,no scare tactics, no making it into something it wasn't, just what he was predicting with the facts he had at the time. He was rarely wrong and never tried to create a panic about upcoming weather.

Well the big S word had everyone hitting the stores and emptying their food shelves.

My BIL is a meteorologist. When the family goes on vacation he carries a big folder of "weather stuff" he has printed out about all the places they will go.

Once when just My Sis and I were going on a trip he loaded her down with all these printouts. She threw them into the first trash can we came to.

And now every storm etc. is a Weather Event. You'd think that there had never been a N'oreaster, hurricane or tornado before.
There was a news reporter in Ma, Shelby Scott who would brave the worst conditions to report on the storms. I used to think that she must have been either low person on the totem pole or not the news director's favorite reporter. I think she has retired.

My Dad used to say we are going to have weather, whether or not!

Well, as long as this HAS turned into a weatherman vent...

It's been in the mid-upper twenties, lower 30's around here for the past week or so. You should HEAR the way they're going on about it being so cold, fridid, etc. What? It's Jan. It's SUPPOSED to be in the 20's and 30's. yes, we've been blessed with some warmer weather in recent winters, but COLD (in this area of the country) used to be defined as single digits or teens. Can't wait to hear them if we get a really cold snap! They've already used up all the superlatives available, I think.
