Looking for crochet hat pattern

Found a lovely crochet hat on one of the free pattern sites. It was like a watch cap, but a bit poufy on top, had a nice edging. Not a watch cap or a beret, but a fairly simple looking hat. The maker stated she didn't really have a pattern, but just kept crocheting in the round. Which did not help me, as I would need a pattern to know how big to make it slightly poufy in the top part and than taper it down to the three or four rows of edging. I have been to several craftsites that boast free patterns and looked at about 100 patterns to see if I could find something similar, but no luck. Was a very feminine looking hat and not a pull over to the side or back sacque hat. Wonder if anyone has directions that would make a similar hat. No brim, no rolled front, just a delicate edging and light pouf on the top, fairly closed stitches, think she said she just used a half double crochet and kept going in the round until she had the desired top. Frustrating, as now I cannot even find the original picture of it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tia, I'm not really picturing this "poof" on top. Could you provide the link to the picture? I might be better able to help you if I could see exactly what you are speaking of.

Hi,
Instead of fitting snugly on the top of your head there is a bit of play or space. So the top part above the band is a bit loose fitting instead of that snug fit you get with a watch cap. The hat fits down over you head in watch cap style, just not the snug fit of a watch cap. I have gone back twice to a couple of very good free pattern sites, Crochet Pattern Central and the Crochet & Creaft Link Index as I am sure that is where I found it. But after spending a long time looking twice, now, I have not located the pattern. Unfortunately it was listed as a "crocheted hat" and boy there are a ton listed that way. The only directions given were, the person said she just did half double crochets until she got the desired fullness and than decreased or single crocheted until it fit the way she wanted it. No two hats came out the same, was one of her comments.

Hi, I have a pattern for them in an old Annie's Attic booklet...I started working on the ann and just couldn't get the foot right! For the life of me I could NOT get the foot to go with the instructions! I will dig through my closet tomorrow and look for it...it's probably sitting right next to ann with no feet! :-)

That is such a great feeling to be a grandmother & to sew a hat for your granddaughter. I am not even a mother, I wonder how to do that but definitely it is a cute effort. Nowadays no one does this stuff, I really appreciate that you are doing such a wonderful effort. Debbie Downer here... patterns are copyrighted and it is illegal to "share." I just did a quick search on Ravelry for free crochet Hello Kitty patterns, and there are 122. Not all are dolls, but a lot are, and most are really cute.

Tia, check out crochetpatterncentral.com. There are oodles of hats to choose from. Maybe you'll find yours there. Oh, Dolly, can you imagine wearing THAT hat?!?

LOL I would not want to imagine wearing the mushroom hat.
The site you sent is one of the ones I have been combing. They have something like 539 hat patterns, and I'll be darned if I can find the picture of the one I liked. And believe me, I have seen some patterns that I sure would not want to crochet. I will keep looking, as I am sure the pattern was on one of the two sites I posted above, but have not stumbled onto it again. Should have saved it. But it was one of those deals, oh I like that, will find one similar with directions. But have not seen any quite like it. Appreciate your taking the time to respond. Just wish I could find that dratted picture again.

I like this pattern (even though it is not poufy) since you can use any type of yarn you want and make it any size! Hope you find what you're looking for because some of those mega sites can be so time consuming. I have been trying to save any pattern I find on those that I like/hope to make on a CD so I don't have to search again. Enjoy!

I think lionbrand.com may have that hat. I think it was one of those free patterns. Try their site.
