Turning to the forum for help again with my nightmare

After making unauthorized charges to my personal account for installations, inflicting damages throughout my house, doing installations contary to manufacturer's specifications and demanding tens of thousand of dollars above agreed price for exceeding "allowances", my supposedly reputable designer/contractor had breached contract and walked out of the job. Where do I get professional independent estimates to repair damages and complete the kitchen job which can also be used for future litigation purposes?

The most important thing will be the notes and documents and photos youve accumulated to date. Some contractors will, in addition to completing the job, audit what was done and document it for you. How to find one? Sorry to say pretty much the same way you find any contractor.

Was there a subcontractor or other provider in the process you liked and who did good work? They may know of another GC .... but of course if they have a strong relationship with your GC that wont work. Even a retailer who you liked?

BTW, you say they demanded money for exceeding "allowances" as though that was some sort of trick? In your original quote, were there allowances for certain categories? WHen you had to make decisions regarding those allowances, didnt you two discuss how those decisions impacted budget?

We've had several issues with our GC and his subcontractors. Since we purchased most materials, we contacted the suppliers and asked for their suggestions and referrals. All were quite helpful...seems like they've been down this road plenty of times.

The stone place where we purchased our travertine provided us with several installers that came out and gave us reports on the quality (or lack thereof) on the installation of our travertine floor.

The company we bought our tile from gave us the name of their favorite independent contractor who is now going to repair and finish our backsplash.

Kitchenaid gave us the names of local certified appliance installers and the one we are using is very knowledgable and has solutions!

And, we are using our own electrician to finish the electrical.

Response time from flower initiation to full color varies from 7 weeks to 10 weeks depending on the cultivar, so you should start seeing color before that time. Poinsettias initiate flowers when days become shorter than nights. However, once short days begin, it is important that nights continue to get longer for bracts to form color - if nights get shorter rather than longer the flowering will be disrupted and plants will fail to flower... Hopefully you'll start seeing red soon :-)

The short day treatment needs to continue for around ten weeks....no interruptions. The temperatures should be relatively cool (60-70) or flowering could be delayed. Excess fertilization could also delay the process. By the way, the periods of darkness need to be MORE than 12 hours each and every time. Most people start the process around Oct. 1 to insure good color by Christmas week. Once the 'treatment' is over, the bracts should be showing some faint signs of color. You shouldn't be seeing a lot of new green leaves at this time, so I fear that something is off with the cycle. The flowers will show up the terminal ends of existing growth and the leaves (bracts) will color up around them. You can stop the short day treaments after ten weeks. Even 8 weeks. The bracts may not have colored up fully at that time, but they will as long as all of the conditions have been met. Don't expect the plant to turn vivid colors while still in treatment.

nyteeyes - yeah, i hope to hear from someone soon as well. my plants look even worse today! and thank you regarding the photos. :) speaking of photos... i took a lot more today. closeup of the leaves, which look far worse now: a shot of the overall plant, which i thought might help show where the damage is taking place in relation to the whole. i know this plant is still in a dark pot - it had been doing so well up until now that i didn't think i needed to change anything. new growth is green and fresh looking: this next shot is from the roma tomato plant i was posting about originally. it shows the way the leaves twist and curl up like little pigtails: in non-tomato news i noticed what seems to be my first female cucumber flowers. am i correct in this assessment? of course i also noticed what seemed to be whiteflies on the leaves, so i sprayed with a little soap and water (over and under the leaves).

They're HERE! They arrived today. Sitting on my porch when I got home from work. Sorry for the cell phone photo but it's just a quick shot to show how they look next to my IKEA butcherblock countertop under my breakfast bar. They seem very sturdy. I was a little concerned about the legs as well but I think I could jump up and down on these. Those legs are more chubby and hefty than I expected. I really like them. I did beeswax them with the same finish from my countertops so they won't be sitable for a couple of days until that has a chance to settle into the oak really well but here is a photo of them...
